Something I was wondering the other day, when they have a POC Matilda in the cast, for example Éva-Marie currently, do they have a POC understudy for Mr and/or Mrs Wormwood to go on? Because if they have a black Matilda with two white parents, and clearly show her birth, surely that doesn't make any scientifical sense? When I saw Les Mis with Alexia Khadime as Eponine, young Ep was played by a Caucasian little girl. Surely in the 21st century we can understand that what we are watching is a piece of fiction and/or entertainment without getting too hung up on skin colour? We knew we were watching actors and that the likelihood of this happening in reality was slim, yet the show was incredible.

The audience go to see the actors play the characters and I don't think the colour of their skin is particularly important. It's a piece of fictional entertainment.

The RSC have a race blind casting policy, so no, I doubt they do.

Mrs Wormwood has been played by a black lady on a couple of occasions in the Broadway production whilst the Matilda was white so it's definitely not something they over think.
I like it done that way as it means the best person for the role can get cast without having to narrow it down to skin colour.

Billy Elliott used to have the same situation, too - a non-white Billy with Caucasian parents. It's not an issue as long as you're willing to suspend disbelief.

And, let's face it, you definitely have to do that with Matilda!

I've always thought Gina would make a great Miss Honey!
A shame to see Craige leave as Miss Trunchbull but he has been there for 3 years so I don't blame him

Yep, her casting made me want to see the show again. Will try to squeeze a visit in during my annual New Year's trip.

Wondering if anyone has any insights into the best value tickets? Thinking about trying the £5 student ones but a bit worried about the view (or lack thereof)

Wondering if anyone has any insights into the best value tickets? Thinking about trying the £5 student ones but a bit worried about the view (or lack thereof) I completely forgot about the student rate tickets when I went last year and bought one of the ~£50 grand circle seats only to find that my friend had a £5 ticket the row behind me. You’re looking at mid-rear of the grand circle towards the outsides and the few is fairly good although a little distant

Always worth asking at the box office on off peak dates, you might just grab a bargain

From their website:
Standby Tickets £30 tickets available for concession groups at the box office for Wednesday matinees (may be offered to non-concession groups at the box office discretion)
I got two for me and my mom one day and we were in the premium seats so you can hopefully get a bargain. I thought if you wanted a really good view at a good price it was more preferable to pay this than the £5 dayseats.

I've been offered premium stalls for £30 about 15 minutes before curtain up on a Tuesday about a year ago, and the same but for £25, for a Wednesday evening, enquired at lunchtime, just after the school holidays ended this September - if that helps

The show is coming on tour to Dublin in April and I was just wondering is it worth the trip? I'd have to go to a Monday/Tuesday evening as all the matinees are sold out sadly. Willing to give the show a miss if it's not that good, it would mean a rather tedious three hour bus journey for me, both ways!

For me, it's one of the strongest family musicals out there and is a bloody good show. I would say that if you have the chance to see it, you'd be a fool to miss it, though of course it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea.

I’m returning to see this a week on Wednesday. What are the opinions from those who have seen it lately? New cast good? How is David Shannon?

New Mr & Mrs Wormwood are my favourite pairing. Gina Beck is sublime as Miss Honey. I think the current cast are my favourite overall, and I think I've seen 4 different casts!

The good news is the online ballot starting from Tuesday - pairs of seats for £25 each. More details coming on Monday. I’m liking the sound of this! Presume this will work similar to the School of Rock one?

The show is in great form at the moment, I felt the last cast weren't very good but everyone at the moment (they started in September) are great. The new west end Matilda's and child ensemble start in a couple of weeks and the tour opens in Leicester on Monday.
The show is thriving.

And to be honest, it's a show that has a lot of love from the theatre community to start with, everyone is happy to see it continuing and doing well. I hate a lot about long running musicals, but this one's OK by me.

The UK Tour has its first show this evening and there's already 2 adult swings on as children! I wonder if it was illness or the children not being ready yet.
Does anyone plan to see the tour anytime soon ?

I have to say, I didn't expect the set to look as much like the London production! I thought there'd be a lot less scramble pieces, and more of a cloth look, a bit like Wicked tour vs London. Yay Matilda http://instagram.com/p/Bf9A4MUnfmu
