Three very important questions here:
1. Is someone employed full time to cover up Jay's tattoos each night? 2. Is he in his underpants when they do it? 3. How do you apply?

Went last night with Trekkie Monster to see this at Theatre Royal Plymouth.
So overall I enjoyed this but Act 1 is a little underwhelming but has some highlights the piano scene, a massive long solo for Diana Vickers and the brilliant 'Cross the Line' which closes Act 1 (Jay in his superhero 80's underwear is also a delight) but it's Act 2 which is solid so as a whole I really enjoyed it, even though it's not the greatest musical. I think I enjoyed this more than TM but I'm sure he will post his thoughts in due course.
Jay as lead, the boy can sing but he struggled to maintain pitch throughout the whole show with some bum notes. It's obvious that this is his first musical and his voice isn't yet experienced in 8 shows a week but he did act the part well and he came alive for the dance sequences. If it comes to West-End he will need to keep up on training but for his first professional he's doing doing too badly.
Diana Vickers is terrific here, she really brings a kooky neurotic performance to the character which really worked for this and she has a great voice for the stage.
One 'big' thing this show has going for it, is an excellent set and great special effects. This show is certainly not cheap & looks great but this does worry me for West-End.
If this does make it (I think better as a touring show) than I think it would work best as a seasonal show but my fear is it will go down the 'Elf' route and be overpriced. I think Christmas is the perfect season for this to run in.
Is it the best thing I have seen this year, it isn't but did I enjoy my evening in its company than yes I did and I would go see again if it makes it to London.
I do plan on getting the cast recording for another recording of 'Cross the Line' the great black coffee number and because I really like Diana Vickers big solo in this.
Oh so yes we stage doored, Jay was lovely - just got a quick photo as well there lots of young girls and he was hugging away and just a nice lad in general. Also met Gary Wilmont too!!

Loved the piano scene, Diana's big solo in act 1, cross the line finale for act 1 and the song about coffee (sorry can't remember the name). Jay acts the part perfectly but struggled at times vocally. As westendcub says above with a bit more training he will be fine. Jay was the perfect gent at the stage door. Taking time with everyone, particular with kids. Gary Wilmot was perfect as George MacMillan.

I saw this during the week and it far exceeded my expectations. I hadn't seen the movie so I can't compare with that, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Jay McGuinness and Diana Vickers are both very likable leads. Diana in particular impressed me. Her vocals were ropey once or twice, but overall she was great in the role of Susan, who is quite an eccentric character. She has some lovely solo vocal moments in the show- I particularly liked 'Dancing All The Time.' Jay is very charming and engaging in the role.
There is some terrific choreography. It's visually very strong, with some fantastic sets and clearly a big financial investment has been made. There are some great songs- some more 'instant' than others. I didn't particularly like one of the child actors but that's a minor quibble. There was a technical fault in the second half which caused a five minute delay but the audience didn't seem phased. Huge standing ovation at the end.
I should say that our tickets were discounted- Usually they go for €60 or so, but the theatre released a batch of discounted tickets to get bums in seats- at €25 a go, which is excellent for stalls seats. They did so for the Mon-Weds evening shows this week.
Hopefully audiences will get on board for the rest of the run (six week run overall I think), and for the rest of the tour, as it's a super show.

I could see this being a filler at the Piccadilly for a limited run. Already on tour, somewhat star cast, popular movie etc.

I've actually seen a production of BIG and quite enjoyed it - it's a better and funnier show than the OCR would lead you to believe. But what's the market for it? The movie is long forgotten. Or is it? [br Saying the film is forgotten proves your age. You must be under 35 - correct? Big is a HUGE film!!!

Saw this last night and really enjoyed it. Surpassed all my expectations. This is cast really well. The set is spectacular. Never has a show used a revolve so much (Yes I have seen les mis, its used even more than that) there must be concrete plans for this to have another life after Dublin. there is no way that set was for a couple of weeks in Plymouth and Dublin

Half a Sixpence could also give the show a run for its money in terms of revolves.

I'm sure Elaine Paige said on her show that they were waiting for a suitable theatre to become available.

I'm sure Elaine Paige said on her show that they were waiting for a suitable theatre to become available. Thank you- it's an enjoyable show. I was afraid it had been shelved as its four week run in Dublin wasn't a huge box office success. Glad to hear that they're finding a new home for it.

I’m sure someone hinted this was going to the Dominion. Would be a good summer filler.

Maybe not the Dominion then if it’s the autumn. This guy is from Union J, aged 30. So maybe we have our casting.

Gosh the guys social media feeds are jam packed with endorsements and product adverts, could be its just another post for rent, although likely to be cast I'd say. The soundtrack did nothing for me the few times I sat through it, think it was the winey kids that put me off and nothing brought me back round after that ha.

I find the score of BIG to be incredibly bland. Its a bit of an endurance test to sit through it.
