So fabulous bit of misdirection there with the end face off. Kate is as bent as they come. Meeting in some abandoned god forsaken hole - She’s not stupid. She knew a confrontation with Ryan was coming. What was all the yelling between them and ‘last chance’ stuff about? SHOOT HIM And the scooby doo confession by Ryan he confessed to murdering Maneet and Corbett. Why didn’t he just shoot her? Doesn’t seem like a cold blooded killer’s MO to have a conversation first Side note: Disappointed with the Tommy Hunter connection as too obvious but I was obviously suffering with a classic case of LOD overthinking there.

I fear it went the other way. Though yes he's so smug that would be satisfying. I really should have re-watched all of the other series as I'm pretty lost every time someone from the past pops up trying to remember who they were/what they did.
I don't really get why Kate believed Jo was on the level, our previous bent coppers have generally not been out and out criminals but someone who did something and got blackmailed and then it spiralled out of control so why couldn't that have happened to Jo?
It's the annoying smug cops at the top that I really want brought down.

Ohhhhhh, I did rather wonder that. In my tv rantings did query why anyone would meet in a disused lorry park if it wasn't for criminal activity. So if it is Kate, or in fact was any of them would that have been the plan right from the start of series one do we think or something that developed. JM is a man for detail isn't he? And I hate it when things get shoe horned in later that then make earlier stuff non sensical. I suppose if it is Kate then it means I have whole episodes more to wonder why my hair doesn't look as amazing as hers. Unrelated by why does Hastings wear uniform and no one else? Is it cos he's old school?

I'm reminded of The Incredibles, where a big point is made of the villain monologuing purely so that the hero has a chance to escape. We've seen Ryan kill in cold blood, but now he just has to get into a slanging match with Kate because... Also does it bother anyone else that seemingly no officer can shoot to maim? Every single time there are shots fired, criminals who could have huge amounts of information die before help can get to them. AC12 of all people should know how to shoot to maim not kill!

Yes shoot them in the legs! Too much info is lost. Ryan saying ‘you should’ve took the transfer Kate’ Yelling lots of yelling ‘you drop it’ ‘no you drop it’ Corbett - throat slit without a backward glance Maneet (new mother) dragged to her death and told to shut up before they slit her throat. It all seemed a little staged. Ryan doesn’t strike me as a face off type more a sneak up behind you type!

This is why I don't have theories, I read something and go 'that sound convincing' and then someone says someone else and i immediately believe that. It does mean things come as lovely surprises.
I think that about police in real life but don't they always short to kill on the basis that an assailant could still cause harm if you take out an arm or leg or something?

I think that about police in real life but don't they always short to kill on the basis that an assailant could still cause harm if you take out an arm or leg or something? That's tricky. Only if there is an immediate and credible threat to life. I doubt if someone with a bullet in their leg would be able to do much before another officer tackled them to the ground. Obviously it makes for better telly, shooting criminals indiscriminately, but at this stage I'm not surprised AC12 are getting shut down the amount of shootings, Steve's affairs and The Caddy. Oh and that's before we even get into the fact that Jo Davidson is the product of incest! A line about homozygosity means that Tommy Hunter was related to Jo's mother! Incidentally isn't Anna Maxwell Martin brilliant? Barely ten minutes screen time and she steals the episode with her sneery superiority.

Love AMM she’s just ICE COLD. Anyone else frustrated by the end though? I’m so used to bingeing shows. A week is a very long time (to discover Kate’s not dead) Will be quite sad to see the end of Ryan. The actor playing him has done a brilliant job. I’ll miss his dead eyed serial killer stare 😂

That was some long lingering look at an old training photo Ted was giving.

I can't actually remember why AMM was in the last series apart from the fact that you really didn't want to be anywhere near her.

The surveillance was stopped as soon as that wonderful bag Anna Maxwell Martin appeared - what a performance, next stop pantomime villain Palladium, appeared..she had it ordered from the big boss who is obviously crooked as hell.

She is superior in rank to Ted, which is why she had to interview him when he was under suspicion.

But that was after he'd pulled the gun wasn't it or are we to think what they thought was surveillance had actually been infilitrated earlier? I assume all bosses are corrupt now, it's faster and has a high success rate.

I'm not sure I like the blurring of fact and fiction. First Savile, who may be considered fair game, and now poor Stephen Lawrence and Christopher Alder being combined into one character, which felt insensitive and clumsy.
If Jed Mercurio wants to go down that route, then he should go down that route, but do it properly, rather than as a subplot of a subplot.

I'm the other way with those stories, I think it good they are being talked about. I think it is good a writer of Jed Mercurio's calibre is writing around the stories though I can see why they would give some reservations.

I think it’s a very important reminder that, although Line of Duty is fiction, a lot of the horrible behaviour it deals with is real

I’m appreciating the links to real cases because it makes you realise how hard it was for the people at the time to see what was happening at the time. Hindsight is of course a wonderful thing but as the corruption came out and the fumblings of the police there was a sense of shock, though we know some people did ‘know’ what was going on.

Those bloody prison guards.
Anna Maxwell Martin put in another brilliant performance. Sneering, clearly bent what with forcing Ted to move on in the interview and the shredding of Osborne's photo. But H? I don't think so. It was frustrating to see Jo clearly knowing so much but refusing to speak.

The episode was too talky for me with no decent payoff to make up for it. AMM magnetic as always but little else to make up the hour. The interview scene went on far too long and if Kelly MacDonald had said 'No comment' one more time I was going to throw a biscuit at the screen. And I feel robbed at not seeing Ryan die (unless it's deliberate and we'll see what really happened at some point). Also does he not bleed?!

If the man Jo thinks was her father was a cop...was it Thurwell or someone else?
Who was the woman found dead in Spain?
Given the number of flies around the corpses, when were they killed? Before Jo's arrest I would guess. So who gave the order.
Carmichael is too obvious to be a villain. She is just a toadying creep.
It only leaves Osborne as the grand fromage to my mind. But is that too obvious again.
Why haven't we heard anything more of Steph? Will Steve crack the case before he is suspended? Will Ted have a heart attack with all the stress? Will Jo survive a night with those prison guards on her case?
I am amazed that next week's episode is only 60 minutes long

Was rather disappointed that Jo and Kate out for a drive didn't last longer, it had promise for the next buddy series. Then worried Kate was going to get herself shot.
Jo's never going to survive is she?
I watch from behind my blanket as just waiting for someone to get taken out.

Agreed, Carmichael being set up as a baddie so probably isn’t. I bet she ends up the big boss! I enjoyed the examination of Davidson, it was very well written. What gets me is the speed at which the police get all the evidence sorted out and the ‘script ‘ of the examination rehearsed. Not real time, surely? Quite liked the grey sweatshirts as well.

I loved the long interview. Electric, brilliantly written and great acting. What a performance by Kelly MacDonald.
When the credits came up I thought it was a short episode. Thought thrown in a forty minute episode as there was an episode seven.
But it was the interview that caused that. Great tv

I got very confused at the bit involving Thurwell that Jo claims she isn't aware of. Might have to rewatch! If the man Jo thinks was her father was a cop...was it Thurwell or someone else? Will Jo survive a night with those prison guards on her case? I am amazed that next week's episode is only 60 minutes long I think it was Marcus Thurwells body that was found? Or we're led to believe that. I find it odd James Nesbitt's photo would be used and he's not even in it.

I think it was Marcus Thurwells body that was found? Or we're led to believe that. I find it odd James Nesbitt's photo would be used and he's not even in it. There were two bodies, the Spanish police officer said "Marcus Thurwell, Señora Thurwell". Speaking of the Spanish police officer, there is much discussion online about how his eyebrows look very familiar...
