The book is an absolute joy so hopefully the musical will have the same heart. And the fabulous Terry Ronald was part of the creative team behind 'Rent Remixed' so that bodes well.

Oh yes, 'Rent Remixed' was so hilariously bad it was marvellous. Lots of laughs. Not quite 'Fatal Attraction' funny but on that road.

I'll agree with that - i adored how batsh*t terrible it was, especially once Jessie Wallace was in the cast.
I used to have the soundboard recording, but seem to have lost it over the years which is a shame - hearing the ginger Sugababes singing about Spanish babies making her feel at home always cheered me up no end.
Anyway, getting back on topic, this has been floating around for a while hasnt it? I swear TOP was involved in some way?

OH GOD I FORGOT JESSIE WALLCE
and there was a stray Sugababe, I mean as we learned today they get everywhere...
Anyway back to the point this sounds FABULOUS

A bit more info: Music by George Stiles Lyrics by Anthony Drewe Book by Elliot Davis Based on the novel ‘Becoming Nancy’ by Terry Ronald Directed by Jerry Mitchell
It’s 1979 in the south London suburb of East Dulwich and David Starr is unquestionably one of the smartest, most talented kids in the 12th grade – he’s got a wild imagination, a vocal range to die for, and a bedroom plastered with posters of his beloved pop idols: Blondie, Sting, and Kate Bush. But smarts, talent, and great taste in music may not be enough to get him through secondary school, where, to his great surprise, he’s just been given the female lead in the school play. The unconventional casting sends shockwaves through David’s small town, first with David, and then with his parents, his aunt, and his classmates. Before long, it seems like everybody has an opinion on whether David should go on with the show, inspiring him to turn to his no-nonsense best friend Frances and his unlikely co-star Maxie, the enigmatic captain of the football team. Becoming Nancy is the huge-hearted new musical that weaves a story of family bonds, first loves, and the courage it takes to find your own spotlight.

Nothing I've heard from Stiles & Drewe makes me think they can write a score for a character with these musical influences. Also Jerry Mitchell proved with Kinky Boots that he has no idea how British people speak/act/exist.

To be extra pedantic, in 1979 we didn't use terms like Year 12 at all. That would have been (and in some places still is) Lower Sixth Form/Lower Sixth Would have been far easier just to say 'one of the smartest, most talented 16 (or 17) year old kids in school' - then no need to worry about the school year!

In 1979, I was in Class 6 (my final year in Primary School) - the following year I went to 2nd Year Middle school and 3 years after that I went up to Upper school - entering in 3rd year.
My local authority was transitioning from 2-tier education (Primary - Secondary) to 3-tier (Primary, Middle, Upper) and so the school years were all over the place
In the 2 tier system it was intended to be class 1 - 7 in Primary and then years 1 to 5 for the first part of Secondary before entering 6th Form for the final 2 years
All very complicated - the current years 1 to 13 is far easier to understand!
Here endeth the lesson

Really do like the sound of this- shouldn't be bad with Stiles and Drewe onboard.
And Jessica Vosk (!!!) if they don't write her a big 11 o'clock number for her it'll be a terrible waste!

Despite knowing about this already, when I saw this thread bumped today, I immediately thought Groundhog Day spin-off. 'Playing Nancy' being the Act2 opener, Nancy gets a spin-off show where she is the star.

Just remebered after listening to a podcast, that I'm sure Jenna Russell was workshopping this is NYC at the start of the year. Could've been for a completely different Jerry Mitchell project.
I seem to recall an instagram story of his; with him and Jenna saying how he picked her just for this role, and when it comes too BWay she'll be in it 100%, Might just be a schedule conflict why she isn't doing the tryout- or, as I said, could be a compeltely different show of his.
Either way it would be lovely for her to go break Broadway!!
