Oh she used to be able to, but her voice is absolutely ruined because of this role (she was an incredible Angelica cover in Hamilton back in the day) I was bracing myself any time the melody went remotely high last night as I had 0 confidence she was going to hit...any of it. The screaming was obnoxious too - I expected it to be but it was particularly ridiculous I saw her in Hamilton ,and On The Town in Regents Park, and she was amazing in both. Couldn't keep your eyes off her, great stage presence and perfect vocals and acting. Sad if her voice really isn't what it once was.

Just over 4 years since the very first post in this thread. And productions now running on Broadway and in Australia. Not a bad run for a show that was derided by many in the period up to it opening in Manchester.

However eventually saw it and really enjoyed it. Just shows.

No she just can't sing - this role has destroyed her voice about 18 months ago and she should have left long ago Oh dear, so that's what it was. I simply assumed she was emotional on Saturday, especially during the interval. My previous outing was last Oct/Nov and she sounded good (also less of the emoting or body movements when she was able to be more flexible with her voice). I'm not familiar with how things operate behind the scenes, but is there no vocal coach or someone to step in when they spot poor/unhealthy vocal techniques? To get to the point of destroying one's voice is just not good for the show nor an actor's career.

I went to Saturday afternoon's final matinee, and what a fabulously mucky matinee it was! From extra ensemble members walking past the principals into the Ce Soir Ball to Malvolio's comedy stick on beard nearly doing for Tom Francis, plus many more fun mucky moments. The cast were on fire and MTL was fabulous, but my favourite is always the lovely Cassidy, her comedic timing is excellent and her performance of That's The Way It Is gave me goosebumps.
Bit of a shady moment when we went to take our seats (Stalls F19 & 20) a couple of minutes before curtain up, a woman was in one of our seats and immediately flashed her phone showing me a QR code with the seat number shouting that she had booked her ticket back in December and being very bolshy. I double checked my tickets then walked off to find a steward and explained there may have been a double booking, steward checked my tickets and confirmed with the box office they were my seats then walked me back down to find the woman had gone. The steward said that there are lots of shenanigans that go on during closing days and that the woman probably had a ticket elsewhere in the theatre and was trying it on with an old screenshot. This makes complete sense when I realise how quickly she flashed her phone at me, she had it prepared in her hand ready to show. This wasn't a young woman either, she was older than me and I am distinctly middle aged! How do people think they're going to get away with that, it's so rude.

Agree. Betsy sings it wonderfully but I don’t think it’s superior to Cassidy. Hearing her belt that last section of the song live was the absolute highlight of the show for me on the multiple times I saw it.

I have to agree on it being the best moment of the show. I noticed that whenever Cassidy was on, it felt like as much Anne's story as Juliet's. But whenever I saw an understudy, that really got lost. She brought so much character and stage presence to the role.

Agree that her performance of the song was the highlight of the show for me. She was sensational.
Anyway, so is this definitely touring? I've heard it mentioned but I don't think we've actually had any concrete announcements right?

I can see it doing really well on tour but I don't envy the casting team to try and find a cast that matches up to the incredible bunch we have known and loved in London.

There will be a name in this somewhere (I would imagine as either Shakespeare or Romeo)

Romeo is an easier role to give to someone famous

Romeo is an easier role to give to someone famous I suppose it does have "former X-factor contestant/boyband member" written all over it, but they didn't stunt cast it in London. Actually I'm not sure this will be a show that casts "names" even on tour. At least not names familiar to the general public.

I think it'll have to because & Juliet means nothing to people not in the theatre bubble...

Yeah but as soon as they say "Romeo & Juliet with the songs of Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys", that should be enough to sell it. If it turns into a celeb-fest for the sake of it and loses its character, it'll be a real shame.

Listening to the US cast album and the Romeo sounds like he IS a weedy voiced ex-boybander with zero handle on the ‘character’ or certainly without the self-effacing, but peacocking campness of JLG. Love Juliet though, fab voice.

But stick STARRING JOE BLOGS FROM X then you have a winner (see Waitress tour poster)
