So far this seems to be the smoothest theatrical relocation since Shakespeare nicked The Theatre and moved it to Bankside

Thanks guys... no doubt this was frustrating - it always is when these types of things happen. But it can be the start of something new and better

Sorry if this is a really simple thing... Is there a setting I need to change to make sure when I click on a thread that it takes me to the last reply I've read? At the moment it goes to page one each time for each thread. Thanks.

Sorry if this is a really simple thing... Is there a setting I need to change to make sure when I click on a thread that it takes me to the last reply I've read? At the moment it goes to page one each time for each thread. Thanks. There's a "New" label marking threads that have new posts since your last visit. Clicking on that label takes you to the first new post.

But if I want to look at a thread from where I left off and there aren't any new posts since I last looked...? Thanks again.

If you mean that you read only a part of a thread on your last visit, and didn't read to the end of the thread at that time, there is no function to remind you where you got to!

Just an update to let people know what's going on.
The original plan was that a few people would trickle over to this forum to try things out and then we'd have a formal launch announcement on Monday prior to spreading the word around the old forum and bringing everyone over. However, most people have already relocated on their own, and that renders any announcement to kick off that process rather pointless. The other purpose of the announcement was to say "go forth and spread the word" so people could start promoting the site, but we'd like to wait a while for that. At the moment a logo and forum identity is under development and we'd like to hold off promoting the new forum until that is tested and ready to go public, even though we're already more public than we've been for the past year.
There'll be a proper announcement fairly soon.

Thats really interesting. I was using www.theatreboard.co.uk, and you are totally correct if i use theatreboard.proboards.com it works. Why on earth does it make a difference? I have to use www.theatreboard.co.uk on the mobile version as it displays better. Looks like ill need to use the other for my desktop.

We could of had a much more gradual move over, but in a way its better we are hear and finding out the issues before we launch properly and become a bigger site. What I would say is are you looking at new forum options, such as regional, international and opera?

What I would say is are you looking at new forum options, such as regional, international and opera? We've had a discussion about this between the mods and felt that, for the moment, the best option was to keep the structure close to the existing forum to make it feel familiar for users moving across. Personally, I'm not that keen at the moment on new 'regional'/'international' sections because I think we are then classifying in two different ways 'what' (plays, musicals etc) and 'where' (regional, international vs anything else). I would be in favour of an opera section because it extends the categories of 'what'. Matthew has also pointed out that when there was a regional section over the other side, it rarely got used, so was withdrawn. As the forum grows in popularity it will be important to develop the structure accordingly. We will obviously keep all of this under review as things settle down and there's now a new place to discuss the forum structure, make requests, report faults etc.

What I would say is an international page would (a unclutter the plays and musicals section and (b make it clear we are not just a UK theatre site making a more diverse experience. We are well over 90% uk and we should be trying to attract users of other sites such as Broadwayworld. I don't agree that we should be like the old site or even trying to copy it. We are setting up a home for ourselves. These sections have been asked for multiple times, therefore should be properly considered. I had hoped our new moderation team would of tried to look at how we could improve ourselves and not simply aimed to be a clone of the old site. After all we are not the whats on stage forum anymore and waiting until we attract new users in some ways is too late. Marketing this site should be done that we an inclusive board. At the moment I would say we are heavily West End orientated with very little regional or international discussion. Its a shame we haven't tried to adapt to new markets. It would of been nice if this discussion could of been held publicly, with a discussion between the community. Especially as it is just that, a community.

We definitely want to improve and develop things. We shouldn't and won't be a clone of the old site - but there are some things that are familiar from there because they worked and people were used to them. We are starting with those core ideas because it felt sensible; no doubt though that we build and grow from here on in. The idea behind the feedback section on here is exactly so that those sorts of things can be discussed among the community. I think it gives people a good way to suggest things that they'd like to see and others to comment on the ideas.

*would have I'm happier with boards being separated by genre rather than location; as a primarily London theatre-goer, it wouldn't occur to me to go into, say, a Bristol board, and I'm not entirely sure a Bristol board would get used that much, but if an interesting-sounding play gets discussed in the Plays board then I might decide to make a trip to Bristol to see it. It puts the discussions right where people are automatically going to look and could get some brilliant discussion going, much better than squirrelling them away into a board where only three people are going to regularly look and run out of things to say very quickly. Also it saves confusion when something goes on tour - "do we talk about it in Guildford? Oh get a grip we already discussed this one in Leicester. Why have you started a thread in Newcastle when we've already started one in Birmingham? Etc etc".

Thats the point though Baemax, you are just that a London theatre goer. I live in Edinburgh and there is so little chat about any of the regional theatre I see or travel to see. We are West End centric which means we aren't a truly inclusive board. A regional section will encourage more chat about shows not staged in London.
We could also use plays/musicals and then subcategories them into West End, Fringe, Regional or international. Its important the board grows and attract new users. I would be very disappointed if we didn't at least try and attract Opera users by creating an Opera category.
