Olivier Awards 2017

It's quite interesting that Natasha has been labelled an "understudy" despite her two months run, that clearly makes her a replacement. If she were a replacement she could be nominated for the Olivier - she'd totally deserve it!

I guess she's still an 'understudy' because Sheridan is currently due to return?

If Sheridan decides not to return, I guess they would re-classify Natasha as a 'replacement' (if she got the gig of course).

Scooby Doo definitely won't be nominated. It's playing around 6 performances and you need 30 to be nominated. I think half the ones nominated in best musical won't be eligible or just won't be nominated. American Idiot was in last year, so it couldn't be done for best new musical again?

Little Matchgirl and All the Angels are new plays.

EDIT: Why earth is Jane Horrocks in as best play actress? Similarly with This House not being eligible. I thought these had already been cleared up?

I think it is still up in the air at the moment as to whether Dreamgirls will be considered in the Best New Musical category or Best Musical Revival category, something we will not actually know for sure until the nominations come out. Completely dependant on if they treat it ala Cinderella on Broadway or not.

I really hope Chris and Gina are nominated for Show Boat, they are phenomenal in those roles. Also both Darius and Sheridan deserve to be nominated for Funny Girl, with Sheridan giving one of the best performances I personally have ever seen, she is up there with Imelda in my opinion with this role. Also would love to see Beverley get nominated for The Bodyguard. I can see it happening as she is incredible in that role, but at the same time, it is looking to be a packed category.

How many performances did Sheridan do at the Savoy before she left?

I think it was around 40 performances Sheridan did of Funny Girl during her initial stint at the Savoy.

Couldn't find any info on Little Matchgirl? The mis-spelling of Almedia wasn't dliberate? Is the Pacifist's Guide to the War on Cancer not a musical? I know the National are doing a musical in the Dorfman this year, don't know why I thought it was this one?

I don't believe An American in Paris will be eligible?

As I understand it, having spoken to a SOLT voter;
The Arts theatre is eligible (something about them paying a certain minimum)
The Charing Cross theatre and Menier are not.
An American in Paris opens too late to be eligible for the 2017 awards (Hard luck - they'll be up against Hamilton in 2018)
Dreamgirls is (in the eyes of SOLT) definitely a new musical.

I do wonder what can be considered a 'new' musical regardless of age. The Wizard of Oz for example was classed as a revival despite having a new book and new songs.
