So is School of Rock and Dreamgirls the last of the musicals to open expected to be big contenders at this years Oliviers? If so, it gives us an indication of what could be the frontrunners at lezst in the musical catagories.

I think Dreamgirls will end up being considered a Revival, and will probably easily win that category too, no?
I also think that Aladdin and School of Rock will be embraced much more at the Oliviers than they were at the Tonys, in the same way Legally Blonde was in 2011 (it won, what, 3 awards including Best New Musical?). Aladdin will most likely feature heavily in the set/costume/lighting categories, with DJW potentially getting in to best actor if it's a weak year.
Best Actress in a Musical though - what a head scratcher - what way will that go?

I still think Dreamgirls is going to be considered new.
Best actress in a musical will certainly be the closest with Glenn, Sheridan and Amber all bound for nominations

Actress in a Musical is going to be, nominations wise: Glenn, Sheridan, Amber, Gina and then anyone else who falls into the catagory really if they go for five. Actor in a Musical nominations will probably be something like: Andy Karl, David Flynn, Charlie Stemp, Darius Campbell and anyone else again if they go for five.

Weird that Half a Sixpence will be considered a revival considering it's an all new book and only 20% of the original score whereas Dreamgirls which is 35 years old is considered new in the eyes of the Oliviers.

Agree with the other three but remind me who Gina is? Also, as nice as he is to look at and as nice a voice as he has, I've seen forests that are less wooden than he is as an actor. It would be a shame if he was nominated against those other, more deserving, three you mention. Also, is Regents Park Open Air Theatre eligible? If so, Declan Bennett would deserve a nomination over Darius for my money. Oh, and if Glenn is nominated, I wouldn't be surprised to see The Xav up for the award as well.

Presume it's Gina Beck for Showboat?
I'm also not sure about Darrius. I thought he was very good but I wasn't blown away or anything. Could Michael C Hall get a nomination?

Oh of course. Yes, she was very good too. Sadly, she would be very much there to make up the numbers after Glenn, Sheridan and Amber though I fear.

Definitely Michael C Hall over Darius. He was awful.

I'm guessing similarly to the WOS awards, they are going to push for Sixpence to be considered a new musical.

Glenn Close will be up there for best actress.
Also for best actor don't rule out Declan Bennett, Michael Xavier and Chris Peluso, they will all be in for a shout for a nomination.
However whoever gets nominated one great thing stands out and that is how competitive all the categories are, there is certainly no lock for the musical section.
harry Potter will walk it for the play section.

I'm guessing Harry Potter will sweep, getting 10+ nominations, and winning most of them a la Curious Incident/Matilda/Nicholas Nickleby (!) - we don't often get sweeps at the Oliviers, but you can bet this will be one of those occasions. It's a shame She Loves Me can't be eligible (unless it transfers thought that's unlikely), as Katherine Kingsley would be a lock for supporting actress in a musical.

Supporting Actress in a Musical will be an interesting race. Well, of couse Rebecca Trehearn is set to win, and righty so! Its a shame tge Arts Theatre isn't eligable, as Victoria Hamilton-Barritt was phenomenal! Could Emma Williams grab a nomination for Half a Sixpence? I wouldn't be surprised, she is an Olivier favourite for a nomination and she is great in the show!

From Dreamgirls, though it's an overall very good cast, I think the nominees should be Amber, Ibanabo and the gent who plays Jimmy. The rest are good but average.

I agree with those three, but I wouldn't at all be surprised to see Liisi get nominated and rob that nomination from Gina Beck or Devon from Half a Sixpence! It is a really showy role, she does nail it and it got Sheryl Lee Ralph all her nominations alongside Jennifer Holliday!

Shame I have Mastercard but unlikely to make it to Oliviers this year.. People get Amex cards just to book at The National in advance, so why not open a Mactercard (instead of Visa to be able to book Oliviers tickets?

Do many people go out and get a new card just to be able to book something? For me that would put me off: I don't use a credit card — debit only — but if I was getting one I'd want one that was competitive on terms and conditions, not one that had to resort to exclusive access.

Do many people go out and get a new card just to be able to book something? For me that would put me off: People pay to join membership schemes to get priority booking access, so why not get a new card for a similar reason? And you can apply from home, without going out, so don't let agoraphobia deter you from applying.

If so, it gives us an indication of what could be the frontrunners at lezst in the musical catagories. The last musical to open for the 2017 Oliviers is, I believe, The Girls, which opens on the last day before cut off. And that, I think, is the strongest competition. It's homegrown, it's based on a true and heartwarming story and it has some great performers in the cast.
