But it's an ongoing discussion that has some wanting it and some not, so you can't win haha.

We had a discussion about the idea of a dedicated Tv and Film section earlier in the year. It’s in the feedback section if you would like to resurrect it. www.theatreboard.co.uk/thread/4257/films-tv-books-new-section

It would help if people starting threads about films or TV programmes would make it clear (eg in brackets after the title) that that's what they are; I sometimes waste time thinking I'm going to read about a new play coming to a UK theatre, only to find it's about a TV programme.

The first two or three pages of this thread, there are around 20 different conversations about TV, Film and Radio. For me, it just makes sense as these are constantly discussed and in the top discussions.
I take a General Thread on a theatre board as a thread regarding tickets, or news to do with theatre not specific productions or other theatre bits that wouldn't fit into production specific catagories. It's always bugged me but it hasn't gotten anywhere because others disagree.

The sub-heading of the General section is “you can discuss anything here”. Politics, current affairs and news events have all generated lengthy and interesting threads. Even if we had a dedicated film/tv section the General section would still be available for discussion of non theatre related subjects.

But at least they are all varying topics across a spectrum of areas. If there was a film, TV and radio area, it would enable those wanting to find it easier but also enable this section to be alot tidier as well.

I like reading opinions on tv and movies on this Board because I know that people here are also Theatre 'buffs' and so share my interest in drama and presentation etc. I know Bake off is a long way from Hamlet but if you like both or can tolerate discussion of both then why not share here. If we can tidy up a bit by putting tv and movies into a separate section, would that help? We did discuss this before, but can do so again.

There's no point in discussing it again if I'm the only one who has the opinion, it's all good.

I think a 3 month trial of a TV/Film section would be worthwhile - see how it works and assess from there

Could there be a 'General theatre chat' section (call it something catchy like The Green Room) and then a section called something like 'Off topic' for all the TV, movies, politics etc (call it The Bar)?

Now you have me contemplating a mashup between GBBO and Hamlet. Or perhaps other Shakespeare plays may be more appropriate lol.

We have had a version of Macbeth set around a restaurant kitchen - so there must be potential for more Shakespeare/Food show crossovers

This is the General Chat board, it does exactly what it says on the tin and no-one is forcing anyone to read a thread that doesn't interest them. I don't look at a lot of threads on the board generally, whole sections even. Each to their own, participate in what you like and ignore what you don't, that's the whole nature and purpose of a forum.

Surely if it was a play it would be in the Plays section rather than General Chat? Well that's another issue, yes, as people don't always post in the correct thread but they do sometimes comment on rumours about new work/productions/tours or about writers rather than a specific piece, in which case General Chat may be appropriate - or that's where people start a thread. But if there is any demand for further sub-sections, I'd happily see these on film - and on tv, so I could safely ignore the latter. After all, some people might wish to discuss Bohemian Rhapsody and I'm blowed if I'm starting yet another thread myself!

Like many things in life, it’s what you make of it. You can either sit there with your nose in the air complaining about it, or you could contribute to it positively and change what you don’t like.
