I’ve got 2 tickets for this for tonight (12th June). D10 and D11. Unfortunately I can’t go, so if someone can make use of them, message me, I don’t want paying for them, I’ll just be happy they can be used.

I had high hopes for this but was hugely disappointed and just bored by the whole thing. Once you know the set up of the story there is nowhere for it to go and definitely no surprises. It’s all way too long and musically dull with predictable modal harmonies and melodies. The cast however are excellent and frankly wasted on this show.

Any chance this will transfer? Not going to be able to catch it before it closes.

Any chance this will transfer? Not going to be able to catch it before it closes. Reviews have been excellent, but sadly sales have been poor*, so still up in the air. *if you check the seating plans for nearly all dates, the exact same seats in the stalls centre block have been “sold”, with few if any sold at the sides or upstairs. Not a good sign… It has yet to catch fire with a fan base fully, or entice those who wouldn’t normally head to the Southwark Playhouse. They have obviously been aiming at a transfer from the start, and the reviews seemed to ensure that, but not so sure now. Maybe a very limited run at the Ambassadors or the Arts?

With the exception of the puppet, I absolutely loved it the first time round.
Now the cast are still brilliant and Jamie Parker demonstrates that he really is the best but now I only like aspects of it. It seems too big and the plot meanders whereas last time it was heartbreaking.
Has it had major rewrites? (or was I drunk in 2019?). I sound like a luddite, love Jamie though.
All said and done, still a good night out, and I'd like for a cast recording to be made.

They should ditch the term "Basement". I thought it meant I was going to be really low down looking up.

Well I was as in awe of this show yesterday as I was in 2019.
For me, it was perfect then, but it's now a different kind of perfect, every note, harmony, movement, word & gesture combining in the most exquisite storytelling.
Two 'newbies' I took with me were spellbound, one (my daughter who'd missed it first time round) was skeptical of how much the rest of us had hyped it up, but said I was actually right 😉. The two audience members sat next to me were also mesmerised and ecstatic at having taken a chance on it, only having found out about it and booked tickets last week.
I'm really hoping for a third run somewhere and a cast recording. In my opinion this deserves a longer life and more exposure.

Just as good as it was in 2019. Music beefed up, very moving by the end

This was just fantastic! 5 stars
Great music, talented ensemble, moving plot. Wish I saw it before the end of the run so I could've gone again...
Surely there will be a West End transfer for this, put it in the Lyric or Criterion

after the strength of sales of the preview run i'm not sure it's a done deal... And that was when top price tickets cost £28!They'd have to recast as well as Jamie Parker is going into Next to Normal If it transferred I doubt it'd be opening before Next to Normal completed its run

This wasn’t at all what I expected it to be, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself at the final performance last night. i had read the story after I saw the film in 2008 but had forgotten much of it. I didn’t know if it would be based on the story or the film and was surprised when it was really based on neither, outside the main plot point of a man aging backwards. Maybe I should have read this thread or other conversations but I really wanted to go into this (like most things) blind.
If I had any say, I would have incorporated a few things from the film that I felt really added to the characters and the story but for this being what it was, it was very special. Hopefully for a proper West End run, they will really work to expand the staging and incorporate water more. And I don’t even mean real water but just the idea of it, if that even makes any sense. I still obviously have lots of jumbled thoughts on what was a very special production.
Side note, they were sold out of programs and again I hadn’t read anything about this and somehow missed it was Jamie Parker as Benjamin so when he stepped out I was like “THATS HARRY POTTER!” He’s such an exceptional actor, really.

Jamie Parker is an absolute phenomenon in this, as he always is in musicals. His Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls is one of the best leading male performances I've seen in years, and he was also superb in High Society and Assassins (and a rather dashing Count in the 40th Anniversary concert of A Little Night Music)
Very fair that he's well known for playing Harry Potter, but he really is one of our most versatile actors who can do both play and musicals

I bet he was fantastic in all of those but my introduction to him was Harry Potter, so it was amusing having no idea he was in this when he appeared.

I guess something happened to stop a transfer, but I do very much hope it reappears at some point.

I've just had a Culture Insights survey about marketing materials for this show which would suggest it is transferring.

I'd have said History Boys is one of his biggest roles, especially with the movie that followed. That original cast at the National was outstanding and produced some real talent that regularly work today. Even James Cordon was good in it.

I've just had a Culture Insights survey about marketing materials for this show which would suggest it is transferring. Just completed the same survey and thought that it definitely felt like they are bringing it to the west end. I voted for the hour glass poster.

That's exciting, looks great!
Let's hope for an announcement soon. They're probably waiting for Jamie to finish Next to Normal.
