Just seen in my New Yorker that Janet McTeer is to star in a play about Sarah Bernhardt playing Hamlet. This sounds good. Anyone know anymore about it. I expect it will come to London, no?
My only thought at this moment is that Janet is tall and the pictures I’ve seen of SB show her as not tall. But Janet has the voice I would expect SB to have had. And I wonder if this will be a one woman show or have others in it.

I don't think Janet's height will be much of a worry. Unless they keep referring to Sarah as being short of course. Think of John Lithgow in 'The Crown', he looked and sounded nothing like Winston Churchill but managed to brilliantly convince you that he did by his performance.
To be honest I'll let Janet McTeer do anything she likes. Not only is she really quite breathtakingly beautiful but I also think she's one of the most fascinating actresses around and her voice is just glorious.

The play is called "Bernhardt/Hamlet", previews started over 2 weeks ago, it has multiple characters and I still haven't heard a single praise. Which is not surprising, considering it's a play by Theresa Rebeck.

I'll be seeing this when I'm in New York in a few weeks. I think I've only seen one Theresa Rebeck play so far so I don't really have any expectations as such so far. The promotional images are pretty stunning though!

Saw this last Sunday….very pleasant...some laughs...Janet is sensational....but nothing memorable about it at all...except for the remarkable set.

McTeer is an amazing actress, her performance in Dolls House was one of tje best ever. Sadly she seems lost to the States now.

I saw the play a couple of weeks ago, and thought McTeer was great, but the play leaves a lot to be desired. It has an interesting premise, but Rebeck doesn't seem to know where she wants to go with it (backstage comedy? feminist manifesto? a little of each?), so it just meanders from one scene to another without there seeming to be any connection between the scenes.
As for McTeer's height, I didn't think it was really an issue, although I did notice that she had to bend at the knees when she embraced the actor who played her lover, so as not to be taller than he (which I probably wouldn't have noticed if I had been more engaged by the play).
As for her being "lost to America"' her husband is American, and, according to a New Yorker profile of her from a couple of years ago (https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/10/24/the-dynamism-of-janet-mcteer), they live in the state of Maine.

The Royal Exchange in Manchester did a play on this theme, called 'after the Lions', and it was written, as I remember by Ronald Harwood. Dorothy Tutin played Sarah, and was recumbent most of the play due to Sarah having a wooden leg at that point.
