He’s a lovely chap, but isn’t ‘Duncan from Blue’ WAY too young to play General Waverly? Saying that, I recently read that he had some terrible back trouble and now walks with a stick. I remember when Ken Kercheval from Dallas played the role back in the 2007. I recall loving that production. ...he's not in it though? That's Duncan James 😂😂 Mortified!! This is why I shouldn’t drink wine on Mondays… 🤣

Terrified for a minute there! I booked this yesterday on the strength of SAT being in it. James is my bete noir I’m afraid, so I just avoid him like the plague. Would have been devastated.

Very much enjoyed the first preview of this last night in Woking. Perfect central front row seat too (which is still some distance away from the stage in Woking with the large orchestra pit).
This was very polished. Just as good as at the Curve and the Dominion, but I think with a slightly simplified set. Excellent sound and all the big dance numbers (for what was my second Irving Berlin show in a week). I'm still not a fan of such a talented cast using a pre-recorded track for the tap dancing, but I Love A Piano always gives me chills.
Slightly strange having an adult playing Susan (when it has been a child previously), but I can see why they've done that for the tour. Ella Kemp was very good and aged down well, but I guess it's more obvious this is an adult from the front. Certainly the vocally strongest Susan I've seen.
Fantastic to see so many of the 42nd Street cast on tour. I'd missed Freddie Clements and glad he's back dancing around the stage again. You can never get enough Philip Bertioli, who I'm sure must be covering the two male lead roles and I'd love to see him have a crack at either of them. You have the charming Adam Denman as well and just the right level of camp from Martin McCarthy (although I was disappointed they've gone back to a male-female couple under the mistletoe for the tour). I must mention Sam Holden too, who I don't remember seeing in anything previously, but has the most expressive face of anyone in the cast.
All four leads were fantastic. Dan Burton has been with the show for a long time and makes everything look effortless, but I certainly rated the new leads of Matthew Jeans, Jessica Daley and Emily Langham. And Sally Ann Triplett is probably the best Martha Watson I've seen. I didn't spot a weak link in the cast.
Was it too early to be thinking about Christmas? Yes, but really there's very little Christmas music in the show. And snow is welcome at any time of year.
I would happily see this again nearer Christmas, but it's not really going anywhere convenient. Playing at Woking until Saturday is anyone local wants to catch this. A full standing ovation from the moment the lights went down, as you'd expect.

Really sad to see this having A tough time moving tickets for next week at the Bristol hippodrome.
Saw the Dominion production and it was a great stylish show with some superb dance routines and just a fun warm feel good show.
Hard to know if a"name" could have sold more, or if people think it's too soon for Christmas shows or they think it's too old fashioned ( or flashbacks of having to watch the film so many times at Christmas cause it's mums favourite) or the audience still reluctant to return to the theatre but I would have thought most of the capture audience for this would have been to beauty and the beast and that was packed.
Cannot be cost effective to run with these sales and the Travelzoo 50% offer does not seem to have shifted many more.
Hopefully the reasonably busy first night will gain good reviews and prompt some more people to go.

Not surprised at all if sales are on the floor this early on.

Isn’t the first night when atg card holders get a bargain? I’m only going tonight because there were price promise tickets left. I know nothing about the show so am looking forward to it.

No idea why the Monday has sold best then? Maybe they are all hoping to spot me? 🤣 Maybe it’s a different policy at that venue but at Manchester venues ATG cardholders get £5 off any night.

I think it's £10 off in Bristol, was contemplating seeing it there tonight but there ended up being price promise seats in Woking so I saw it there instead. I wouldn't say it had sold well there either, it does seem far too early to be open but I guess opening for just half of November and all of December hardly makes it worth doing? Hopefully they are settling enough seats in the first few weeks to make it worth it.
I enjoyed it, possibly not quite as much as the first time I saw this production in Leicester though. Maybe it's just too far from Christmas at the moment? I was curious as to how a much older Susan was going to work but it worked really well. If you've never seen a child play her it wouldn't even seem odd.
As has been mentioned seeing the ex-42nd Street members of the cast was lovely. In Leicester Sam Murphy was Mike so it was funny seeing Martin McCarthy play that role now.
Yes, it's a shame about the mistletoe kiss having changed. Also in my head I feel like there was more to Mike and Ezekiel than just the bottle of maple syrup, maybe not though, rubbish memory.

Why is Nikolai no longer credited as the director? It appears to be basically the same production, no?🤔

What I've found with a lot of shows in ATG theatres now is they do discount the first night when the tickets first go on sale, but this is only available for a few weeks.
If I remember correctly, for Woking it was £10 off for the first night for ATG cardholders when I booked. But I must have booked on the day this went on sale. The first night in a new venue gets filled with press tickets anyway.

Well this is a delight isn’t it? Another old fashioned lets do the show right here kind of dance musical with not a whiff of snow so far. Ten minutes late going up, then a ten minute stop for a twisted curtain so we’re only just at the interval. So far Jess Daley and Matthew Jeans are my stand outs; apart from Sal obviously. This is made for her. ♥️

Still hankering after catching this as I've never seen it but locations are very limited from the south-east and despite earlier comments about poor tickets sales, it seems very heavily booked at the remaining English venues, ie Canterbury onwards. Plymouth really isn't practical for a day trip so it may have to be Canterbury though definitely a day trip as I'm also too late to get a reasonably-priced hotel room for an overnight stay. I need a theatre concierge or social secretary to manage all the conflicting dates, locations and productions - and to book my accommodation and travel!

Well, that was just a really lovely afternoon watching this at the Manc Palace today. A good old fashioned production performed with a wonderful cast and orchestra. Great singing and fantastic choreography (“I love a piano”was just bliss watching that dancing) by the cast making great use of the Palace stage to the max. Having managed to grab a row B stalls seat for £25 through an email offer, I certainly got my moneys worth here as well as getting snowed on at the end so I ended up looking like frosty the snowman walking out of the auditorium.

Back out on tour again November’22. With Jay McGuinness. Cue badly photoshopped promo piccy Jay McGuiness (Big The Musical) as Bob Wallace, Lorna Luft (Promises, Promises - Broadway) as Martha Watson, Michael Starke (Waitress, UK tour) as General Waverly and Dan Burton (Gypsy, West End), Jessica Daley (Billy Elliot, Curve) and Monique Young (Gypsy, Buxton Opera House) returning in their roles as Phil Davis, Betty Haynes and Judy Haynes respectively.
