Wasn't Sheridan smith rumoured to play Jenna I think she would have been the perfect choice. Brittish public know her and she would sell tickets. But she's now in Joseph. I'm trying to think of someone well known to play Jenna. The Only two I can think of are Carrie Fletcher I know she's young but she has an amazing voice, and some people know who she is. I am also thinking Beverley Knight or Alexandra Burke when she finishes on The Bodygaurd Tour. Or Idina Menzel.....

I think it was just discussed/made up by board members to be fair...whilst she might be good, this list of names is what is stopping (or hopefully making) casting directors make bolder choices of late. Nobody needs to see CHF in another teenage girl role, but conversely they don’t need to see her struggle as an innappropriately older woman. Fantine will be make or break I reckon in terms of ‘can she pull off...’ but I certainly look forward to hearing it. Yes Bev Knight could do it, but it would mess with the already stereotyped roles assigned in the script. You can’t have a sassy black diner waitress and a gentle, broken black diner waitress. There’d be letters to ‘The Mail’. 🙄 Producers need to keep mining new graduate talent, foreign talent, MT trained pop stars and unexpected reality star talent to keep the W/E fresh alongside what we already have.

Nicolette Robinson played Jenna on Broadway, there's nothing about the role that says it MUST be played by a white actress.

I assumed it must have been played by a variety of people on Broadway but I wasn’t stating that it MUST be played by a white actress. That isn’t what the thread is about, unless you were looking for something to get OUTRAGED about? It is Saturday after all.

Just pointing out a fact, friend, most of us really aren't that salty at not-even-8am on a Saturday morning.

This isn’t aimed at you specifically, but CHF seems to get a bit of a bad rap on these boards and I don’t really know why. I get she has a lot of enthusiastic fans/followers because of her social media presence, and people might assume it’s the only reason she gets roles, but I do think she has a lot of talent and a fab voice. I’m definitely interested to see too how she does as Fantine too. She maybe is a little young for Jenna but then again she’s only a year or so younger than Lucie Jones and no one seems to have a problem with her age when she has been discussed as the next Jenna.

...and it wasn’t intended as a dig at Carrie. It was a dig at unimaginative casting, speculation and lazy journalism that links the same few people to every high profile new role that comes along. I love Carries voice but I’m not blind enough to think that it suits every role, and neither would she be.

It was more a general comment on how Carrie seems to be discussed on these boards, by some, not all (which I shoulda said Theatremonkey). I agree about unimaginative casting choices but I guess that's nothing new when it comes to musical theatre it. People like to go with what they know and what works, and who they've got relationships with. Like Carrie getting cast in Les Mis .... again. And on Broadway, whenever there's a new role it's always seemingly the same stars who are discussed and often cast .... like your Kelli O'Haras, Laura Benantis and Sutton Fosters etc. There's a reason they all have so many Tony noms between them. They're all fantastic performers but there must be a lot of untapped talented Ivy Lynns out there waiting to be given a chance who never are

Somebody needs to go out there as Kat’s replacement a youngster and come back a star...think of all the costumes never seen, the songs never heard, the kids in the chorus...sorry, getting flashbacks...

I don’t understand how casting an unknown British actress would help the show though. I thought that Katharine did a fantastic job in the role, I doubt her casting will have turned people away from booking. If the casting is being discussed as a contributor to poor ticket sales then I can’t see how a Brit who is up-and-coming will help that. 🤷🏻♂️ Nobody is making waves over on the Tina thread that another American actress is taking over the lead role...

I like the new photo of Katharine on these new posters, but the again the marketing for the show just baffles me. Doesn’t mention KMP by name, and the tag line at the top just doesn’t fit or make sense - almost making out that the show is on its way out. Would have been better if they’d made out this was the last chance to catch KMP.

Bizarre...yes,sounds like a show closing announcement. They must assume that every Tom,Dick and Harriet know who Kat is but people DON’T!! The wording is negative 👎and counter-productive.In the beautifully-produced souvenir programme only two people are mentioned for marketing the show which sounds way too few unless I have missed something? Do they have interns to support? Doesn’t seem to be any strategy behind selling this show.

Would have been better if they’d made out this was the last chance to catch KMP. The average tube goer couldn't care less if it's the last chance to catch KMP or the first. They don't know who she is! The theatre fans who do know her aren't buying enough tickets to this show. They're going to have to get someone better known in to sell tickets when she leaves. I actually quite liked the line at the top of the poster. Catchy. Better than it is about someone who bakes pies which has been used endlessly previously.

Something about that poster screams closing rather than cast change, simply because usually if it's for a last show of a performer they say so.

But I won’t get in till around 1ish thanks 😊 Hey - I think they’re only offering day seats for weekday shows. But if you can do a weekday next week I’d probably get there earlier because of the Easter hols and probably longer queues. Plus they only release 20 tix so unless you’re one of the first 10 you might lose out.

I think everyone is overanalysing that poster wayyy too much. 😆I’ve seen some posters that mention Katharine (like the new post-reviews outstretched arms ones) and ones that don’t, like this. I don’t think it means anything either way. If anything it makes sense, because they can continue using these posters for a bit after Kat leaves to generally advertise the show.

I think she sounds great and pretty effortless, although I do prefer SUTBM sung in the higher key that Jessie and Katharine sing it in) although tbf I think Sara’s sings it in this key!). BurleyBear how do you post a YouTube vid link so that it is embedded please?
