TodayTix now top billing Ash above rest of cast.Basically the premise is that names sell tickets and therefore save shows from failing. Is that true? Well Ashley’s been cast with a view to selling more tix than Laura would have done so that’s the plan I guess! stagey - they don’t seem to be selling today tix rush tickets at all for today’s shows as a heads up. Not sure if this is gonna be all Sats going forward or just today! They definitely did have rush tickets today, I got one for tonight bang on 10am. Second row stalls, about a third of the way in, for what turned out to be a really great cover show with Charlotte Riby as Becky, Sarah O'Connor as Dawn and Piers Bate as Earl. If anyone's like me and interested in such things, Sarah is still singing When He Sees Me in the original key, not the lowered one.
Also, Jack definitely had a Friday off for a TV appearance fairly early on, I know someone who intentionally went that night to see Michael Hamway as Ogie.

I also saw the show last night. I usually love an understudy show as I’m a firm believer that most understudies can do as good a job if not a better job than most leads but it was a mixed bag for me - Charlotte Riby was great as Becky, her jokes landed for me much more than Marisha. Sarah didn’t quite have the cutesy vulnerability Dawn needs for me, although I’m glad to have seen her over Ashley. Piers did a good job as Earl but could’ve gone so much further with the extremes of Earl’s personality. I assume it’s something to do with direction, maybe the Director has said to the understudies that they should do it just like the leads - as opposed to saying ‘just go for it’. Complete speculation though.
Lucie is absolutely wonderful, she is such a technical singer which I LOVE and really truly understands her instrument. As she has that nailed, she can really concentrate on acting and telling a story which she does so well. Bravo.

Ahh okay thanks - guess they sold out quick then cos it wasn’t long after 10 I checked 👍 I think Ashley is sick, which is why she missed Fri and Sat performances, because on her insta story yesterday she was heading into the Saturday Kitchen studios with her lemsip. Weird she still did that show though, unless she couldn’t really get out of it idk.

He def takes it further than the other Earls I’ve seen, even if he’s not v good at smashing up a guitar 😆 .... I saw Mark Willshere here as Earl in one show when he was on for Peter and he was much less intense than Peter, although I actually really liked his portrayal.

It’s the Ashley Roberts show! Isn't it just that way so the names match up to the order they are sat in the photo?

I can’t find a poster with all three of the women featured which has ANYone’s name on it, including the lead.

Has the photo of Lucie been photoshopped as she looks bigger across the shoulders compared to Ashley unless Ashley has been on a diet. Lucie looks her proper size in all other photos but in the 3 person promo she looks bigger for some reason.
I don't see why Ashley's name is first, Blake may be better known in the UK if anything. David has effectively the male lead so his namne should be up there too IMO.

Lucie has certainly had a very busy week, all of the shows and performances on both days of West End Live.
She must be knackered!

Just by looking at her publicity shots, there's something remarkably un-star like about Lucy Jones. Then I heard her rendition of She Used To Be Mine on a radio show and was quite underwhelmed with her vocals. There's also some second rate Shoshana Bean riffing that she's borrowed.

Well this thread was in danger of being too positive for a second.

She sounded amazing at WEL on Sunday. In fact the 3 songs they did made me now want to see the show. Mind you Magic Mike made me want to see that show too.

Unecessary riffing. My favourite 😐 Her and Layton Williams are the leaders of the Unnecessary Riffers Club. I cannot stand it all.

I don’t think I’ve seen Layton in anything but have read many reports here that he has a great voice. Likewise Lucy Lucie so why the need to riff? It’s often people who can’t sustain the note who resort to this, and it sounds ridic. And KMP didn’t do it!

Lucie is a better singer than Shoshana by a wide margin. She isn't a second rate anything and certainly not a second rate Shoshana. As for her being 'un-star' like, I am afraid to interrogate this too much as I always think commenting on personal appearance can verge into very unsavoury territory but obviously Jenna is styled to look a particular way. I have to say I would struggle to see how Lucie is any less 'star' like than say Jessie Mueller, who originated the role, or Shoshana Bean for that matter.

Performers think they are being edgy or unique, but it just develops like a rash. Eurgh. When it's every song (Layton), I would rather watch the Joseph BGT clip on loop. Bleh.

I'm not a fan of Waitress but all this constant (and repetitive) negativity about it really is becoming quite tiresome.
If you don't like the show and those in it... fine! You don't actually have to watch it, there are plenty of other shows available to watch and even talk about.
Constructive criticism from those that have seen the show is one thing, but this is something altogether different and it seems to be creeping more and more into threads.
Possibly why so many long standing posters seem to be leaving the forum!

Why should other people censor themselves and their OPINIONS, because that's what it is, an opinion, just because you don't want to see it. No. This board isn't a human right.

Well, you’re right it isn’t a human right, every one here is a guest and with that comes responsibility to be pleasant to other guests. Think of it as going to a dinner party. You’re going to try and get along with the others whilst having lots of interesting conversation and elements of disagreement with a bit of friendly joshing. It would be a boring dinner party indeed if everyone sat there agreeing with each other.
Anyway, let's not be telling our valued and long standing members to leave. The mods look after that bit 🙂

So riffing in musical theatre is a funny thing. I can't bare it in pop music and in X Factor where wannabes riff their way through a song partly as that seems to be the current pop sound but partly no doubt as they do not have the technical ability to hit clean notes.
MT actors generally have learned to sing in a much more disciplined way and can hit clean crisp notes (it's what I love about MT). But when they add in the occasional riff (and it really must not be over used) it can be incredibly effective IMO. Some of the later Eponines have done this (Rosalind James on the 25th tour very much so) which I know a lot of people hate but I do like it when used sparingly. Ditto the Kerry Ellis growl in Defying Gravity and the Ashleigh Gray one in Cool Rider.
