I really love Laura in the role and Ashley isn’t someone who would entice me to buy a ticket but I love the show and want to see Lucie so I’ll go in with an open mind.

Also if the interview was anything like the interview with Kat McPhee (where Piers was just THE WORST) I’m surprised if they even mentioned Waitress at all! |

I don’t know how I feel about the Ashley casting. I’m def ready to give her a chance because I like her, and I want the show to do well. She could be great! But I feel so bad for Laura and it does suck that she’s being taken out of the show for 2 months or so, but at least she is coming back! However, for them to have to stunt cast already makes me worry how much longer the show will even be running for once she returns. Wait and see I guess whether the Ashley factor has an effect on ticket sales.
And I kinda feel a little bad for Lucie too. She’s going to be the lead in the show and you can bet that all or a lot of the marketing in the next weeks is going to centre around Ashley and not her!

Didn’t luci represent us in Eurovision a few years ago I’m shocked the posters aren’t saying Eurovision represent from which year (I’ve forgot the year she did it sorry) luci Jones on the posters. That could be a boost for this show.

That could be a boost for this show. I think that would do a disservice to Lucie (and the show). Yes, she has a history with X-Factor and Eurovision, but she's not been cast in Waitress because of those - she's built up a great reputation in a number of high profile shows, so has earned her place leading a West End musical.
Plus, I can't see the Eurovision connection shifting any extra seats.

Jade Ewen, who came 5th with the ALW penned my time (out best place in YEARS) has basically wiped Eurovision from her history - wasn't even mentioned in her Aladdin bio. Despite it being, IMO, the most high profile thing she's done. Lucie is established in MT anyway though, so probs wouldn't add anything. But must say, I do wish there was a bit more pride in having done Eurovision. Re: all the previous talks of Lucie appearing unannounced - I really don't think it was an issue and it is not uncommon for artists to go on before they are officially announced when they have been rehearsed and are 'ready.' Towards the end of the Coliseum Bat run, Simon Gordon (who was new then, was Benjamin Purkiss that was the alternate) went on a few times as Strat as he was being lined up for the alternate in Canada (and then of course subsequently at the Dominion). I caught one of his early performances and was delighted I did as he was sensational. Ditto the guy who played Jagwire in Toronto. I really don't think it was 'disrespectful' for KMP, Lucie or anyone else. As ever, you pay to see the show. I do wonder what the original wording in Laura's contract was though. Maybe was only short term. Or maybe it was "a year unless we decided to stunt cast for the Summer." We will never know.... |

From the shady twitter posts of performers who know Laura it seems A LOT like Laura has been put side for Ashley to take the role for the summer. I feel so sorry for her.

I'm calling a stunt casted Ogie by the time Ashley goes, if not before then; they'll keep AT LEAST one name in this at all times. Would be nice to see a real MT actor in the role at some point, I know Dan Buckely got to finals for it and then it seems they burned them all off for JMB.

This is a PR disaster on social media as fans of the show realise how Laura's been treated and that this wasn't her choice. She deserves such a good send-off on 15th June.

Totally playing devil's advocate here. And I don't disagree this sounds unfortunate for the person involved. BUT, if they DIDN'T stunt cast, based on advanced sales, the show may well have had to close altogether - which would mean EVERYONE loses their jobs.
She will either have been on a short contract or will be entitled to compensation for a breach of contract. Also let us not forget that most actors never get anywhere near a leading role on a West End stage so life really hasn't been that bad to her.
As ever folks, show BUSINESS. The producers need to turn a profit or it's game over. That won't be a surprise to anyone who goes into acting.
