I have many Christian friends who say that they don't give a damn about sexuality because Jesus loves everyone, it's just this warped sensibility. Crack is whack. We love you Whitney. Except Jesus probably doesn't love the Jews 'cos you know, we kind of stop before the New Testament which is where he becomes the lead character. It's like renting part one of 'The Godfather' and then not bothering with 2 and 3 when Al Pacino takes over.

Does anyone have access to a standard Equity contract? Just wondering whether that might give us a clue as to industry standard clauses that might be in play at the moment. So, in looking at the Equity contract, if they've fired her, she's allowed to put in a grievance, which can take up to 5 days to be dealt with. Curve/Hippodrome, in a legal sense, have time on their hands to work out what to do. But the longer they leave it, the worse it's gonna get.

Not sure about equity, but I have seen recent contracts for actors (film and tv) which contain a clause that says "the actor claims to have not done anything in the past that could potentially reflect negatively on the production", or something in that style. There is also a clause about criminal records, health and of course the usual things, such as being discrete on social media about the production and not changing your appearance, etc. But that first part stood out to me. Because it's situations like this where that clause could come in.
Isn't there also something as a probationary period? Where the collaboration can be ended if one of the parties is not satisfied? I have a friend who walked in on the musical director screwing one of the ensemble girls (true story) in the wings of the theatre early in the morning before rehearsal, which was later labeled artistic differences due to loss of face, which happened in this period and it seemed allowed. Next day he was let go without any chance of making a case out of it. He was even afraid of letting the casting director know what happened because it would reflect bad on him.
I hope the producers find a solution.

As a statement has now been released, the thread has been re-opened for discussion.

A complete lack of condemnation of homophobia in that statement.
Good that she has gone.
But not good how they have handled it. And their silence on the core issue has been deafening.
They have a long way to go to regain the trust of the people affected by this sort of bigotry and hatred.

I appreciate the decision a lot. I don't appreciate how long the decision took.
That's my two cents.

The previous twitter statement made clear her views are not shared by their theatres and so it goes without saying they condemn them.

They said the social media posts have raised significant concerns and they have released the individual from the production. I'm not sure what else they could do?

I appreciate the decision a lot. I don't appreciate how long the decision took. That's my two cents. You can’t just rush into announcing a decision like that when it could present a number of legal issues. The decision could have been made days ago for all we know.

Also the statement doesn't say it but i think it's clear there has been a whole lot more than just "reflection" going on. The length of time this has taken would, i think, suggest a lot of legal complications.

I just feel they were silent for too long. I don't know what I wanted them to say in the interim if I'm honest. But I feel they could have said something. Just my thoughts. Doesn't have to be taken as gospel

Given how much upset this has caused, I don't think it is too much to ask for a clear statement that there is no space for homophobia at Curve and the Hippodrome. I have no doubt that this was all carefully drafted by lawyers - but I believe they have more to do to demonstrate leadership on this issue and to undo the harm this has done.

The right decision but a bit of a flaky statement to be honest. I think I'd have preferred a little bit of "just to reiterate, we don't support . . . etc etc" in it too.

I mean for goodness sake James Barbour played the Phantom on Broadway for years despite having served time in the past for molesting an underage girl BACKSTAGE and just left voluntarily when he'd had enough of the role. I don't think it's a big deal that it took them a week or so to publicize a formal decision over an offensive Facebook post.

I have no doubt that this was all carefully drafted by lawyers - but I believe they have more to do to demonstrate leadership on this issue and to undo the harm this has done. The Birmingham Hippodrome is situated on the same street as the Gay Village. At the recent press night for Kinky Boots they invited a number of local drag queens and kings to the show. They worked closely on the handover performance for the Commonwealth games last year which featured drag queens and a gay wedding. As my local theatre they do not need to do anything more for me to know that they support the LGBT community and I am not going to let this incident affect my opinion of them.

Both theatres issuing a statement that they have let this actress go, is a statement in itself they will not stand for homophobia and as pointed out the Leicester Curve is led by 2 gay men, so they do not need to emphasis a given.
As for the Actress, she may as well cut up her Equity card, as she won’t have a need for it anymore.

I don't really think they could have done much more. We don't know what has gone on over the last week, nor do we know under what conditions Seyi Omooba agreed to leave. I'd imagine it's been a legal minefield, and they may be limited on what they can say/condemn in the statement.

what's most interesting to me is that the authors and the Rights holders of the piece were involved.
Pure speculation, but I wonder if they threatened to pull the production if she stayed.

Rights for a production can be withdrawn - so that may well have been a factor in all this.
We will never know.
I am delighted that she is no longer going to be appearing in this production (and hopefully not in any other productions until she can demonstrate she has disowned her hateful beliefs and is an active supporter of full equality for all)
But I will not give up on fighting back against any instance where homophobia is expressed or even tacitly accepted. We have seen two further incidents today on the media of people talking about being LGBT+ as a choice. That is blatant homophobia - and must not be tolerated. I will carry on calling it out where I see it.

I get the want for some more communication but if they were still trying to sort things out, what could they say beyond what they already said twice? That they are dealing with it? They can't go into legalities or let us know anything until it's been sorted out once and for all. Not here but i saw on twitter so many people having a go as if this could have all been resolved in a few minutes and she just be marched out the door. I have no ides what went on but i absolutely trust that they did everything they could as quick as they could.
