Why does the media still always present possible hot weather as a good thing? I'm sure I'm not the only person who has been very relieved by a not too hot July & whose heart sinks at the prospect of hotter weather in the next couple of weeks. www.bbc.co.uk/weather/features/66508760

Yeah, I much prefer the weather we’ve had recently to the typical hot summer.

I think people have forgotten that the UK being where it is, gets varied weather patterns throughout the year. The summers are no continuously anything, but characterised by hot days, weeks and then rainy, chilly ones and the winters can be very cold or just cold or sometimes bright and almost not cold. It’s not like so much of the rest of the world where temps stay the same for each season. I honestly think people don’t understand that. ( she ducks behind the sofa )

It might be nice and warm now for a few days but I still have to wear a thick top fleece at work as it's bloody freezing in the office.

We often get ‘Indian summers’ with warm days in Sept and October. Plays hell with marketing winter clothing.

The weather forecast for the next week makes me want to scream. It's hotter than July & August. It's always like this just as schools go back - the weather is always better in the first couple of school weeks than it is across the whole of the summer holiday.

Yep, I'm always keener on early September weddings than June ones (despite what the girls in SBFSB say). They tend to have nicer weather in my experience.

I do not consider nearly 30 degrees to be better than low 20s!! Neither am I, especially when I'm stuck teaching inside. However, the weather during the summer holidays has been so mixed, and now we have a week (or two) of sun (albeit hot) as soon as we return to school.

A couple of months ago, I bought one of those geeky-looking neck fans anticipating a hot summer but was luckily away from the UK during the last heat wave. I've been using it the last couple of days and I have to say, it works great! I was a little concerned it would give me a stiff neck, but so far it hasn't. I'll have the chance to check next week if it's loud for others (and myself) when sitting in the theater, but if not, it will be a god-send!

I bought one of those mini hand fans (Funme) and it's very effective, though not quiet. Until this week, there has only been one day when I needed to use it (social event as a thunderstorm was about to break) and I forgot to bring it. Btw, do you have Sahara dust on everything today? We do here in the NW, and odd opal skies, very still, birdsong sounding really loud this evening.

What I hate is that the heatwave comes along just as you’re adjusted to it being 20 degrees - it’s not the absolute heat level that is the problem (I was out and about in 30-odd degree heat on Greece!) it’s the fact that it has jumped 8 degrees in a matter of days!
That and the fact that my first floor flat just seems to *collect* the heat. It builds up over a few days.

... it’s the fact that it has jumped 8 degrees in a matter of days! And it's going to jump down just as quickly starting on Monday. (Thank goodness!)

Unfortunately we have to get through a horrendous-looking two days first. I wish I could get anaesthetised for 48 hours so I didn't have to experience it!

We've had such an appalling summer in the NW - rain, cold, heating on, wettest July on record, everything mildewy and mouldy - I'm actually enjoying this (mostly): the hazy light is very 70s nostalgic and I'm getting on with some very belated Spring cleaning.

My mother & I seem to experience temperatures completely differently. Conversation just now:
My mother (calling up from downstairs): How are you getting on? Me: It's not exactly cool up here. My mother: I'm about to put a fleece on. Me (melting in shorts & t-shirt): Aaaaaarrrrrgggghhhh!!!!

Shout out to anyone (like me) who suffers an anxiety disorder and is wondering why their anxiety and stress is getting worse for no apparent reason - it’s the heat, and it’ll be alright!

If you like the heat its great but a lot of us don't like anything over 25C and our perfect heat is about 20 to 22C effectively shirt sleeve weather.
At least its not June/July when we get about 4 more hours daylight so the heat would be even more extreme. But I do agree tempers and anxiety can get worse people are hot and bothered probably more likely to have been having more liquid refreshment often alcohol so you get a perfect storm.
Children in classrooms which aren't falling down probably being made to sit in blazers by some wanabee dictator head. A lot of older people struggle in this weather too. Even people who love the heat on holiday its different if you have to work in it unless you're lucky enough to have booked your time off right.

Shout out to anyone (like me) who suffers an anxiety disorder and is wondering why their anxiety and stress is getting worse for no apparent reason - it’s the heat, and it’ll be alright! I'm surprised anyone wouldn't recognise the cause. Personally I am very well aware that the heat is causing me extra amounts of anxiety & stress. If you like the heat its great but a lot of us don't like anything over 25C and our perfect heat is about 20 to 22C effectively shirt sleeve weather. 20C is too hot for me, let alone 30C. My ideal temperature is around 12C.

I very nearly collapsed at work today because of the heat and stresses that come with it. Home now. Think a trip to the pool and the cinema at the hottest parts of tomorrow will just about get me through. I never realised how sensitive I am to it until now.

I may shortly have to remove my very stylish Italian-made sweater, as I sit outside, on Sheffield's trendiest road, enjoying this pint of Irish Red bitter. 🔥🍺
