The South of France was pretty stifling today, much more humid than the last few days though I don't think it was actually any hotter. And obviously I managed to get sunburnt...
Flew back earlier to discover London is equally stifling, and my house is very much lacking in air con compared to my nice French hotel room...take me back to France please!

A family friend is in Paris and says it is unbearable... The weather or the City itself? Beat me to it.

Thank goodness it's not as bad today, though still warmer than I'd like.
Wondering if I can sue a deceased mosquito for sexual harassment? This morning I discovered two large bites on my left breast. The presumed perpetrator met its maker at 4.20am, as soon as it was light enough to see to swat, but I didn't know then where it had bitten me!

Really feel sorry for people who suffer with the heat/humidity.Weather men/women always talk about the sunny weather as something to look forward to...but it’s a bit like Christmas/ New Years Eve...not everyone looks forward to it.

The weather in Scotland (namely Edinburgh area) has been very sporadic. We had the first day of the summer holidays yesterday and it started off sunny but then turned into thunderstorms though-out the afternoon and into the evenings.
Then today, it has been mainly cloudy but with an incredibly high pollen count, and I am struggling to cope due to my hay fever.

Oh, the mozzies will always get you in places that will 1. Be rubbed by clothes 2. Be hard to access once dressed for applying cream etc 3. Are not socially acceptable to touch/scratch in public
😡
Still, fingers crossed we won’t have so many horse flies this year - I’ve still got a scar from the horse fly bite that got infected last year.

I am a magnet for little black flies this afternoon. I know why - I am wearing a neon green top. I remember learning in biology lessons that certain colours attract insects.

If flies like yellow, our @theatremonkey must be a magnet. 🐵🍌 Still, it's nice to be popular!

Awfully warm yesterday & today. Last night I was bitten on my elbow & the bite has swelled up to over an inch across. Hate mozzies.

It's the UV more than the heat that bothers me at the moment. I took a break from work to go to the shops at 10:00 this morning so I could keep indoors in the middle of the day.

Backdrifter I'm very envious of your temperature. Less so that you've probably got even more insect life than down here! lynette I'm applying lots of anti-histamine cream but it's 3 years beyond its best before date so I'm not sure how much it's helping...

Backdrifter I'm very envious of your temperature. Less so that you've probably got even more insect life than down here! In fact, not really. I'm in Inverness, it's when you get out of the city and especially westward that it gets really midgey. Here, we don't seem to have them. Regarding the mosquito discussion. If they are nearby, they completely ignore Mrs Backdrifter. They see me, lick their lips, tie a napkin around their necks, get out their salt and pepper shakers and chow on down. Even the sodding midges, when we do encounter them, make a beeline - sorry, midge-line - for me.

It's funny how midges only turn up on the western side of Scotland. I have relatives on the eastern side & there's nary a midge in sight. Hence I got a horrible shock the only time I visited the western side!
Same with me. The two places I've visited with the worst insect problems, western Scotland & Florence, I got far more bites than my mother & aunt did (admittedly my mother did seem to be a tick-magnet in Scotland) & at home they prefer me to my mother too. She says they evidently prefer younger flesh!

Mini Tibs used to work in a pharmacy and would concur with you @theatremonkey. However, I'm sure the entire Theatreboard would love to have proof of whether the 1930s is too long ago to be potent though...🤔😬😷😜

I'm sure the entire Theatreboard would love to have proof of whether the 1930s is too long ago to be potent though... As a joke, fair enough. But starting the actual opinion poll was a little insensitive Tibidabo. Don't worry, TM. It was only advisory, and after three years of arguing, the 'Powers That Be' will decide it was all too complicated anyway. 🙂 And Tibidabo, I thought it was Spanish you spoke, not Russian?

My earlier recommendation of using high potency essential oils to ward off the mozzies seems to have fallen of deaf ears. So for a lower cost remedy you might want to try a product called Skin So Soft by Avon. It’s a spray oil skin moisturiser which happens to have cult status for its coincidental mozzie repellant qualities. You need the “original” fragrance and I believe it’s available at Boots and other high street pharmacies as well as Amazon for about 3 quid. Seriously, google it.

Yep,i use this skin soft and i think it does help. I've used it before and not noticed any difference. So for anyone trying to decide, there you go. The same sort of claim is often made about it in regard to midge-repelling.

My left elbow currently has a swollen area of about 4 inches by 2 inches thanks to the bite I got Thursday night. Ridiculous how such a small insect can cause so much damage. On the plus side, at least the temperature today was not too bad & the next couple of days look as though they'll hopefully be bearable.

Which alternative tropical London are you all living in? I've had to put my winter duvet back on!
