Blimey, that's a very tough one to answer! Thinking back, I have several different criteria. One is the tracks that I played over and over and over from original cast albums, another is the show tunes that I most enjoyed playing when I was accompanying variety and music hall shows and another is just the big musical anthems that scream 'Musical Theatre'. My choices are all mainly rather old!
So the show tunes that gave me most pleasure to perform:
I'm still here (Follies) Broadway Baby (Follies) Can't help lovin' dat man (Show Boat) All I need is the girl (Gypsy) The Picture of Happiness (Tenderloin)
The tracks that I played over and over and over:
Lizzie Borden (New Faces of 1952) Shall we dance? (The King and I) All that jazz (Chicago) There is nothing like a dame (South Pacific) Diamonds are a girl's best friend (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes)
The big anthems:
There's No Business Like Show Business (Annie Get Your Gun) Hello Dolly Oklahoma! Everything's coming up roses (Gypsy) Cabaret
And here's another group – best romantic songs:
Some enchanted evening (South Pacific) If I loved you (Carousel) Make Believe (Show Boat) On the street where you live (My Fair Lady) They say that falling in love is wonderful (Annie Get Your Gun)

What a difference a voice makes! You're not at all how I imagined you, hulmeman! It brings home how one dimentional our posts on here really are... It was great to hear you and I enjoyed listening to your song choices and your reminiscences. It was particularly good to hear Some Of Us Belong To The Stars again. It brought back some wonderful memories for me too of going up to the West End with friends to see this. We thought we were very grown up and sophisticated! I'm baffled as to why this has never been revived- as you say it's a great score. It would be a fantastic vehicle for someone like Charlie Stemp. My faves can change over time but I reckon the following are pretty stable: Heaven on their Minds from Superstar- my very first West end show. The immediate musical hook as we hear that 39 lashes guitar riff. I can still picture what was going on on the stage now... Memory from Cats. Reminds me of my mum. She played the single I bought her over and over again apparently as it reminded her of me once I'd gone off to University. Anthem from Chess. Makes my heart thump and my spine tingle. When this is done well, my God it's just incredible! Fantine's Arrest from Les Mis. So clever how so many musical themes from the show are included in this one short scene. Develops into that gut-wrenching line You let your foreman send me away, Yes you were there and turned aside... I used to love it how she spat at him... Being Alive from Company. Reminds me just how lucky I am to Be Alive!

I'm sure at some point we have all formed a mental picture of people we meet on here. I just never thought anyone would do it with me!!!! It proves my point about thinking carefully, then thinking again about posts we make, because without a compass point words can be interpreted so many ways! I so agree with you about Charlie Stemp as Billy, and I too liked your song choices - you should vocalise them on Encore radio. Like tonyloco the songs change according to the circumstances, five goes nowhere near far enough, so the choice has to have a frame.

Crikey, that's really tough.
If you'd asked me this a year ago my list would have looked something like:
Defying Gravity One Day More Movie in my Mind And I Am Telling You Being Alive
But now, its largely changed, and now sits at:
Defying Gravity (Wicked) Being Alive (Company) If I Loved You (Carousel) Could I Leave You? (Follies) As If We Never Said Goodbye (Sunset Boulevard)
Amazing how it changes!

Petrified - Taboo Unexpected Song - Tell Me on a Sunday Once You Lose Your Heart - Me and My Girl Losing My Mind - Follies I am what I am - La Cage aux Folles
Even coming up with those five, I had to drop favourites from Salad Days, Brigadoon, Kiss Me, Kate and many, many more
But these are all songs that I find myself singing at the moment!

I applied with my favourite five in early 2016 and completely forgot about it but then got asked to come on and speak, I think I was one of the first to do it. My top 5 then were: 5. Seasons of Love (Rent) 4. And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going (Dreamgirls) 3. Prologue: Into The Woods 2. You Can’t Stop The Beat (Hairspray) 1. Defying Gravity (Wicked) It’s probably changed quite a bit by now if I think about it but I still love all these songs.

Narrowing it down to 5 is nearly impossible and it changes daily, but the top 5 that i have probably listened to the most, or that have most meaning to me are, in no particular order;
Hard Candy Christmas - Best Little Whorehouse Song of The Hired Man - The Hired Man Finishing The Hat - Sunday in The Park With George At The Ballet - A Chorus Line Any Day - The 3 Muskateers
This is a video of Any Day, sung by Jenna Russell and Joanna Riding. The orchestra, the vocals, the big belt finish... LOVE IT!!

i forgot Lilly's Eyes - The Secret Garden I Wish I May - The Witches of Eastwick She's a Woman - Kiss of The Spiderwoman It's hard picking just 5!! Spiderwoman has some great numbers. Dressing Them Up was a party piece of mine for a while. The trio for Molina, Valentin and Aurora that leads into the title song is brilliant.

If I were to pick 5 they'd probably all be from Les Mis so I'll restrict myself to two!
1. Fantine's Death - Les Miserables 2. Stars - Les Miserables 3. The Ballad of Sweeney Todd - Sweeney Todd 4. No Good Deed - Wicked 5. Someday - Memphis

This was hard.
5) Raise you Up/Just Be - Kinky Boots 4) Let It Go - Frozen (specifically the broadway version) 3) Do You Hear The People Sing? - Les Mis 2) Defying Gravity - Wicked 1) So Much Better - Legally Blonde
I saw Defying Gravity appearing a lot but honestly, when you've had a rubbish day there is nothing better than the rush up to the 'So if you care to find meeeee, looooook to the western sky'
I'm just a sucker for a self-empowering belty woman.

- I’m Martin Guerre (Martin Guerre)
- Being Alive (Company, love the version on the Harold Prince tribute, ‘Prince of Broadway’
- You Never Walk Alone (Carousel)
Bonus Track: Have been listening to ‘My Love, My Life’ From Mamma Mia, But way too embarrassed to put it on my top 5 list.

Also love Fantine’s Arrest, I believe it wasn’t on the original cast recording, but was on the 10th anniversary cast recording, so when I first heard it, I like listened to it a 100 times back to back. It was such a unexpected pleasure.

Hmmm.... I'm not familiar with a lot of the newer musicals, as I think they're now either too expensive to go to or the kind of "Mamma Mia" type show that I think is just lazy. (Feel free to shoot me down!) So....
Being Alive (Company-I love Julian Ovenden's version at the Sondheim 80th birthday Prom) A Little Fall of Rain (Les Mis-from this point on my tears start to fall too) All Ya Have To Do is Wait (City of Angels-wonderful black humour and Latin American rhythms) The Time Warp (Rocky Horror Show- I defy anyone not to get up and dance to this) Tell me It's Not True (Blood Brothers- I ended up sobbing at the end of this show at Liverpool Empire years ago. Helen Reddy was brilliant!)

This could change daily... but for now:
Gethsemane - as heard on the 1996 recording.
I’d give my life for you - Lea Salonga is peerless at this!
Anthem - sounded so good when Michael Ball sang it at the Recent revival.
Black Hills Of Dakota - the harmonies in the stage version are gorgeous.
Dames / keep young and beautiful - from the London recording. Love how this builds up to the big finish.
Ask me tomorrow and it would probably be a different 5!

If "fave" is defined as songs I most often find myself singing to myself as I walk down the street, my choices would be:
You're Just in Love (Call Me Madam) Ice Cream (She Loves Me) This Nearly Was Mine (South Pacific) Move On (Sunday in the Park with George) I Won't Send Roses (Mack and Mabel)
