Edinburgh Fringe 2018

I'm seeing 13 the Musical because my friend is in it and I want to support her, and also Shaun Nolan Paper Dolls because he is a YouTuber/blogger that I enjoy.

I live in the Edinburgh area and go into the city nearly every weekend, so I pretty much know the street layout of the city centre. With Edinburgh, you definitely need 3D maps to fully understand the city because of a lot of the city being hilly and streets being high level bridges above low level streets (e.g. South Bridge/Nicolson Street and George IV Bridge are high level streets above the Cowgate and Grassmarket areas.

I'll be there on the 8th and the 9th for shows but will probably get the train into town on other occasions to go to the half-price hut, or catch some free shows or street entertainment.

I'll probably be wearing a Wicked t-shirt (typical of me) and a flannel shirt with jeans because that's like my one look.

I've booked all the "main" shows I'm seeing.

I dunno what I'm gonna do for 5 hours between Thirteen (ends at 2.30pm) and Six (starts at 7.30pm). Edinburgh is quite small and I live in the area so can't exactly do touristy things because I've already seen most of the city! I would go shopping but I don't want to haul heavy bags across the city with me. Maybe I could squeeze in another show?

@serial Shusher I just realised I'll be at the same performance of Six as you. (I think?)

aingidh you could catch Notflix at 6pm before Six, thats at Guilded Balloon which is about 5mins walk away from where Six is playing.
I'm tempted to bin off Six currently in exchange for something else, as its doing the rounds later in the year and coming close to where I live, if I go decide to go I'll say hi!

To be honest, I mainly do musicals but I'm a sucker for some good comedy and improv.

I think I’ll go for it. I probably won’t book it for a little while though because I’m on an extremely tight budget at the moment.

I would really like to tell everyone who loves musical and comedy to go see Mr Swallow. His show two years ago was a hilarious magic musical. Loved it.

Strong recommendation for The Fishermen at the Fringe. Caught it in previews at Home, Manchester last night as I doubt I'll get the opportunity to up in Ed. This appealed to me on the basis of the Man Booker shortlisting of the novel from which this piece has been developed.
Set in Nigera it's a great piece of 2-man physical theatre. Really well choreographed and intelligently staged with beautiful lighting, the actors fluidly shift between many different characters to tell the story of 4 brothers affected by an African curse.

I now have 16 shows booked, and a couple of mornings and evenings spare in case something else catches my eye when I'm there!

Those who have done the Fringe before, how risky is it not booking anything mid-week and hoping to bag some HP tickets at the booth on the day?

I almost never book anything unless I'm really desperate to see it. The app tells you what's available at the booth and if you book everything in advance you miss out on seeing stuff that has a good reviews or that you see a great poster for. Just decide on the day what you want to see

I have five or six things booked already, those that are likely to sell out (Traverse/Kitson/shows with limited audience capacity). I’m going to be checking online for word of mouth in the next couple of weeks and the jigsaw will gradually take shape!
