Last night I saw Once On This Island. Won the lotto for $49.50 SRO tickets. There was probably about 80-100 people there trying to win tickets! Broadway is crazy! That many people wanting to stand and at £37 a ticket? Would never happen in London. The production was absolutely stunning, and the staging was so well done. I didn't know much about the show before going in but the score was pleasant, even if the story was a bit strange. That's interesting — I went on Memorial Day weekend and from what I could tell, most of the people entering were people who'd lost the Wicked lotto. It wasn't quite that many — maybe 60 people? And I won.  I definitely have qualms with the story (more how it ends than anything else), but the production is beautiful. |

We're basically seeing the same shows I thought Once On This Island was absolutely stunning. It exploded with creativity. I'm a little skeptical over the fact that this girl gives her life for the love of an asshole, racist player, but if you leave that aside, it's really a gorgeous production with stunning details. Lea kept on blocking my view, but that's okay and she smelled nice (really, she had a light perfume on). I loved the lady who played Papa Gae as well. Absolutely dangerous and thrilling. Carousel was pretty rubbish. A preachy morality play to begin with added with a director who absolutely has no vision, concept or point of view, with the abuse was completely sanitized and censored. The set design was pretty broad strokes, which does not work for a piece like this. Jessie was great, Joshua started well but was really playing to the back of the house, and I felt that there was absolutely no chemistry or heat between them. Over choreographed throughout, and the actors break out into dance for absolutely no reason. I know that the book demands these dance interludes as written originally, but the director makes no attempt to put the dancing in context or to elevate the tension or drama. May I remind you that Jack O'Brien is the same director of London's Love Never Dies. |

Last night we all saw Waitress - $40 rush seats were great! I love Kathrynne McPhee in the leading role. Whole cast were brilliant!
For tonight we rushed Bands Visit for mum and I, and my dad and sister got SRO for Evan.
We did Mean Girls lotto again for matinee and..... I WON AGAIN! unfortunately my three family members didn’t so I sacrificed my tickets for my mum and sister. Karma paid off though as I got a Frozen ticket for $65 (face value $99) from the agency guys by TKTS. Dad got Bronx Tale for $39.

Really liked Frozen, Bands Visit not so much (full thoughts in that thread).
Matinee of Phantom today, they sold me a great front seat for $45 when the box office opened. We are all seeing Hello, Dolly! tonight. My third time, dads second, and first time for mum and sister. Got the $47 rush seats in the front orchestra.
Still got four slots to fill. Come From Away and SpongeBob are probably the two definites. May try Mean Girls again... not sure if I can sit through a 4 hour Iceman.

It’s sold out except for premiums for my whole visit. Same for Three Tall Women - no discount tickets. Not too fussed about MFL though as I saw a great production in sydney last September. |

Saw Anastasia last night, enjoyed it much more on a second viewing. We are currently second in line for Come From Away, we were only able to get one rush ticket yesterday for my sister and that was from arriving at 7am! Gonna try Mean Girls lotto again today.... let’s see. SpongeBob tomorrow hopefully as our last show |

So we won Mean Girls and my sister and I went again. Managed rush for Come From Away, and we got great seats for SpongeBob on Sunday. A very very successful trip.
15 shows all together for a total of $660, or $44 a show average. Was honestly expecting to pay a lot more.
