Hi everyone, does anybody know any performances where the performer cries naturally rather than stage crying?
I'm doing a performance at University where I will be crying naturally on stage, to the point I'll drop to the floor in sadness. I need some ideas of practitioners or performances that does something similar to this. I was thinking of Marina Abramovic? But I need some more....
Thank you!

Thank you! Seen some very emotional Mrs Johnson’s in Blood Brothers. True tears for definite.

When Maureen Nolan plays Mrs Johnstone she gets into such an emotional state that she seems to extend her vocal range and hit the particularly high note (for her) at the end of “Tell Me it’s not True”!

What is Stage crying? If it looks false then it is poor acting. If it is ironic for a characterisation, then it is good acting.

I’m pretty sure that when I saw Tim Minchin play Judas at the 02, I could see a fair few performers on stage with him genuinely crying.
Thinking about it, they might have been tears of laughter... 😂

Keala Settle singing This Is Me- at the Oscars and in the workshop performance you can see she gets emotional towards the end of the song.

When I saw Sheridan in Funny Girl she cried alot, to a point where it felt so genuine and real you just wanted to give the poor girl a hug... the next night she got to Greatest Star and didn't return for two and a half months.

My favourite ever crying is Juliet Stevenson in Truly Madly Deeply. She's snotty and red and blotchy and waily and it's awful and heartbreaking and believeable.

Judi Dench in the taped production of the RSC Macbeth. Tears and snot.
