Wicked - International Tour 2016-2017

Two of the cast - one commented on Instagram saying she's been told she was unemployed during a night out & a second tweeted asking if anyone had heard of teaching jobs from July (although that tweet has now been deleted!)

If they were 1 year contracts (Opened in Bradford July 2016) then perhaps it is the case that they just weren't asked to renew?

Jackie was her Standby on the 2nd year of the original UK tour and they would also have both been in the London company together so I would hazard a guess that it's a catch-up with friends!

Think you're thinking far too deeply into this.  More likely, as previously mentioned, Ashleigh was going over there to meet/watch friends perform.  I highly doubt she would return as Elphaba, let alone in a standby/cover role

Sadly tickets sold poorly here in Manila. I think they aimed to break even by extending the show.  
I think the producers and local promoters were complacent in promoting this show. Maybe they thought they wouldn't have to work hard to create awareness, given how successful Wicked's 2014 run was. 
 
I also think the producers waited too long to adjust ticket prices by
- changing the seat plan to reallocate more orchestra seats to lower price points
- offering more ticket price discounts via bundled packages, or sponsor's promo

My coworkers hadn't known that the Manila run started until I told them.  There were only a few posters and signs in Manila, unlike what Les Mis had done last year. In the show venue itself, there were much fewer and smaller posters than in Les Mis.  Les Mis Manila also had a huge poster of Cosette hung outside the theater, easily seen from across the street.

The Beauty and the Beast Manila cast guested in local shows. Mrs. Potts sang the title song.
If the Wicked Manila cast had done the same, I didn't catch them on TV. 

I also think that this run was hit by bad timing with our present political troubles.  Manila had been included in tennis pros' exhibition games for the Intl Premier Tennis League's its first two years. But on its third year in December, the Manila sponsors begged off, citing political turmoil.


Wicked Manila sold well on its opening weekend when I first saw it, but struggled to sell tickets after. Lots of empty seats the next two times that I saw it, including their penultimate matinee yesterday.

That's a shame for a show like Wicked. Esp now that its politics have become more relevant.  I had seen Wicked in West End and Broadway previously,  but its message of not judging a book by its cover hits harder in this era of heightened discrimination and alternative facts.

Yeah! The tour is closing at the beginning of July so I would say Guangzhou will be the final stop... Not entirely sure on that one!

What I assume our illustrious* colleague means is... he knows someone, who knows someone who runs a fan account, and that fan account is for an actress who is quite supportive/friendly with the fan account so rumours & speculation have come from there...

*And by illustrious I mean he managed to be involved in the conversation every time the main Wicked page has been locked. Before said person came along the thread never got locked and we all rubbed along nicely...

I think that's the fastest I've ever heard it and Kerry & Dianne were known for being quite speedy in their day!
