Thought it might be useful to have a thread where people can ask for advice/ recommedations from the experts on here?
To get things rolling; I'm taking the parents and grandparents to London over the bank holiday weekend.
Anyone got any thoughts of what would make a good (and preferably reasonably priced) choice for the bank holiday Saturday (and/or Sunday). Looking for something with quite wide appeal as they're all quite different.

My first instinct is Matilda, on the grounds that it's suitable for everyone and extremely brilliant. There, that's set a ball rolling. What else?

My first thought was Jersey Boys if they like the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. It's a jukebox musical but it's well done and has an interesting story (at least that's what I think). I took my mum to see it a few years ago and she loved it and really enjoyed hearing the songs she remembered from her youth. :-)

I've never seen it, but I seem to remember a colleague saying they took their mum to see Jersey Boys and they were a bit shocked by the language used...? (Just in case that might offend any parents/grandparents.)
I'd second Matilda but discounts/cheap seats are hard to come by. The Woman in Black, maybe?

I recommend Play the Goes Wrong to basically everyone.

My mum didn't have a problem with it but if someone is easily offended by swearing on stage then yes, that's a point to consider.

Similar note to Jersey Boys depending on musical tastes 'Sunny Afternoon' (I do know a few people's parents/grandparents who have been offended by those rude Jersey Boys. Not my Mother, who'd probably tell them the same back)
I haven't checked what's on, but a trip to the NT is also visitor/older relative friendly in general. Otherwise I second The Play that Goes wrong for anyone.

I recommend Play the Goes Wrong to basically everyone. Reinforcing my view that there is something wrong with me! I'd maintain that I *do* have a sense of humour, but it was one of those situations where everyone around me was howling with laughter and the best I managed was a few quiet smiles every few minutes. I could see that it was cleverly put together and the cast gave strong performances, but it all seemed a bit predictable and overdone.

It's weird TheatreDust it's usually the kind of humour that would send me running (or at least scowling in the bar) I HATE slapstick and 'silly' humour (my sense of humour is very much on the dark side...) but I loved it. But I appreciate not liking it.

Obviously I was anticipating the mayhem but every time I was taken by surprise with the actual gag. I really loved this show. It seems to be the ultimate mickey take of a farce for people who love the theatre.
