I saw this last night and I have *feelings*!
Not going to spoil anything, but it had me on the edge of my seat and feeling totes emosh.
I was leaning forward in my seat for most of the last third of the film, when it finished I sat back with a big, satisfied, *sigh* and the kid sat next to me gave me a hilarious 'WTF lady' look.
Anyway, I partly started this thread just for people to report their thesp-spots, as I'm sure there's a whole bunch of theatre-types in this that I just didn't recognise, because I am officially terrible at recognising people in different parts.

I'll kick off with Amanda Lawrence, Michaela Coel, and Navin Chowdhry. In light of Amanda Lawrence in this one and James McArdle in The Force Awakens, I'm hoping we get another Angels in America cast member in the last film of the trilogy, just for a little bit of synchronicity.

I thought it was incredible - a completely unexpected but totally brilliant change of style, and fantastic performances from the entire cast. I can see why some hardcore Star Wars fans aren't buying into it, but for me it's a complete triumph.

I thought there was a lot of unexpected small moments of humour, which really helped basically all the characters come to life for me. People like to laugh, make jokes, tease each other, it was just nice to see a lot more of it than in previous films.

Oooh, and look at you kathryn going all streetwise and 'Hamilton'-like with the title of the film in the thread header. You're so down with the clique.

Saw it last night, and thought it took an awfully long time to get into gear, but once it did - wow. Without spoilering things, its difficult to see where the story goes from here with the characters they have left. Not exactly a luvvy spot, but I'm not sure what the point of Ade Edmondson appearing in this was, apart from that Bottom-esque 'been kicked in the goolies' face he pulled in his last shot on screen...

I vote for Denise Gough but I'd be happy with Tovey or Garfield. Apparently Joseph Gordon Levitt was in it but I didn't spot him although I did see Michael Jibson and a very odd turn for Ade Edmondson as Hux's right hand man. Gareth Edwards, director of Rogue One and Godzilla has a cameo as well. I liked the film but a lot of people I know disliked it, I get the feeling this film will be very divisive amongst fans.

Eddie Mair's response on radio 4 as the opening reviews were published: "Two questions. How long did it last? Two and a half hours. How long did those two and a half hours feel?......"

According to IMDB, Joseph Gordon Levitt is/was the voice of 'Slowen Lo' (not sure if that is supposed to be a deliberately crap pun) but I couldn't tell you who or what that is in the film.

I liked the film but a lot of people I know disliked it, I get the feeling this film will be very divisive amongst fans. Yes, I really enjoyed how it diverged from the Star Wars template (I had no idea what was going to happen!) and even subverted it, but I can see how a lot of fans wouldn’t.

Yes, I could feel my heart racing too. Agree that it lacked an overarching storyline, but I think that’s sort of deliberate. The original trilogy was so much The Hero’s Journey - the fated Chosen One, the Champion of The Light Defeating The Dark - and this trilogy seems to be deliberately picking that apart and mixing in shades of grey. Very much a war movie, in that it reflects the chaos of a real war, and the fight for actual survival, with objectives and plans having to change all the time.
And I loved the dynamic with Poe and Vice Admiral Holdo. Poe is so convinced he’s the dashing hero who is going to save them all...

I'd give it 7/10. I thought it took too long to get going - the scenes on Skellig Michael felt like a Disney theme park somehow with new creatures like those oh-so-cute Porgs just there to create a giant marketing opportunity in selling tat. Also didn't like the casino detour that felt a bit too millennial-preachy to me with them going on about animal rights, weapons' dealings, the evil 1% and so on. What next, Chewbacca going vegan when the porgs keep making puppy eyes at him?
But once it did get going, I really liked most of it - some twists that made me think "oh good, they didn't go down the obvious and predictable route" and some nice new characters like Rose. Overall an enjoying ride and I think Adam Driver is fantastic. Kylo Ren's journey and development, wavering between good and evil, is what Anakin's story should have been in the terrible prequels. The shirtless scene was pure fan service. Ahem.
I didn't spot any thesps except the lady from Angels in America and well, John Boyega. Whenever Finn was on screen I wanted to slap him for letting me down in summer as I had booked Woyzeck just for him and he was out that evening.

It's certainly divided the fans I know. Two who are massive fans (one of whom managed to avoid any of the trailers or promotion) were massively disappointed. I loved parts of it but found the detour to the casino totally unnecessary in what is a pretty long film. There were two moments for me that were particularly touching and may have caused a tear or two. Biggest letdown for me was Snoke. Overall I understand the way they are taking the story. Hopefully I will enjoy it more on a second viewing.

Just went for a second viewing as my first was interrupted by a fire alarm and cinema evacuation. Adding Michael Jibson to the thespian spots - he had a fun little moment!
I really loved the film and how it was unexpected yet made perfect sense. I’ve enjoyed most of Johnson’s films before too so was very glad when he was picked to direct.

I like seeing all the differing opinions on this one and how people can take different things from it.
I loved it personally. It seems to be a love it or hate it movie thus far.
