Just had email from Southampton Mayflower, entire tour has been cancelled. They don't want to give us that. Shame, had a booking for the tour, its my first (but sadly I suspect not the last) post July show I've had cancelled.

Thought part one of the ITV version was very good tonight. I recognise the scenes from seeing this in the theatre but think they've been rearranged a bit.
Was expecting some audience interaction, but maybe that's to come? I notice there was a telephone number given at one point, but I didn't write it down. Did anyone try calling it?
There's also a podcast available after each episode with more details, so going to give that a listen later or tomorrow.

Thought this was great! Obviously they cannot recreate the audience participation of the play but a nice little homage to quiz shows through the ages at the beginning. I wonder if it's going to follow the play and set him up as guilty in tonight's episode with the 'case for the defence' in the 3rd one? I read that they discovered more evidence about 'The Syndicate' whilst writing the TV show so think it will concentrate more on that (I believe they are going to give a figure for the percentage of total prize money won by this organisation).
Two things - Michael Sheen of of course brilliant but I preferred Gavin Spokes as the Major. And James Graham replied to my tweet! Lockdown made!

There's a rumour doing the rounds on the internet that Charles Ingram will be one of the 'celebs' on I'm a Celebrity this year. Maybe, in a moment of sleep-deprived weakness, he'll finally cough?

If I were another celeb in there I'd tell him to f**k cough. ITV paying a cheat like him however much money to go on telly would be completely amoral.

Rest of the cast announced: www.whatsonstage.com/news/further-casting-announced-for-new-tour-of-quiz_1512484/“Joining Rory Bremner, who as previously announced will play Who Wants to be a Millionaire? host Chris Tarrant, are Lewis Reeves (I May Destroy You, The Midwich Cuckoos) as Charles Ingram, and Charley Webb (Emmerdale) making her professional stage debut as Diana Ingram. Other new cast members include Mark Benton (Northern Lights, Waterloo Road) as Judge Rivlin and other roles, alongside Leo Wringer (As You Like It, National Theatre, Hamlet, Young Vic), comedian and actress Sukh Ojla (Bridgerton) and Marc Antolin (Little Shop Of Horrors, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre).” I think Charles and Diana should be rather flattered by those casting choices.

I never saw this but would love to, and the new touring cast looks great. Does anyone think a West End return could be on the cards? I see the hip team Wessex Grove are co-producing.

If I remember correctly whilst the West End run went fine I don't think it was selling out much, I wouldn't bet on a return.

If anyone’s thinking of seeing this at the Lowry there’s an offer on through Manchester Theatres for £20 seats for all performances (max 4). Code is MTQUIZ.

Surely this appallingly bad play will not return to the West End. Touring is bad enough.

I finally got to see this a few days ago and really enjoyed it. I thought all the cast were excellent and enjoyed the breaking of the 4th wall to get the audience to feel involved. I nearly missed out on getting a keypad to be able to vote, I don't know why they didn't just hand them out as we went in. I saw an usher on the other side of the auditorium waving them around, but didn't realise what they were, I thought they were perhaps something to do with audio description. It was only when I saw the people behind me with them that I twigged what they were, and managed to catch an usher's attention to get my own. I think there should have been an announcement before the show to make people aware they could have one if they wanted, as in the interval the ladies behind me were saying they didn't know they should have tried to get one. I liked how we became the audience when in the scene where Charles used his ask the audience lifeline. I assumed they put our results up on the screen (rather than the actual results from Charles's show) but I don't know what would have happened if we had got the question wrong! Presumably if would have been altered if needed. At the end of each half we got to vote as to whether we thought they were guilty or not - the first vote is after just seeing the case for the prosecution (although having seen the TV adaptation, my vote was influenced by what I was yet to see) and the second vote after the defence case. The cast were very surprised when our final vote was revealed. After they had left the stage, they showed the results from the previous three shows alongside ours - they were all similar to each other, but ours was very different. {Spoiler - click to view} Our first vote was 93/7 guilty, our second was 70/30. The previous final results were almost 50/50, with one being marginally more in favour of not guilty. I was surprised at how badly this had sold, I'd managed to pick up a front row seat a couple of days beforehand. A lot of shows in Newcastle almost sell out in the stalls/dress circle. I'd happily see it again if I got chance (and I'm generally more of a musicals girl than plays).

Looks like the Birmingham run has been cancelled, it’s been removed from both the tour list and the Alex’s website. Gutted, as I was wanting to see this but hadn’t got round to booking yet!

Thats a Friday night, with less than 8 hours to the performance (and the top 2 levels are closed rather than sold out).
More people in the audience for the actual coughing episode than appear to be going to see this tour.

Rory Bremner on BBC Breakfast this morning at 7.50am.
No mention of a West End return for this after the tour ends.

Saw this yesterday. Was looking forward to it after seeing James Graham’s rather good adaptation of Boys From the Blackstuff but feel like it fell flat. The lack of an atmosphere in the theatre didn’t help as it hasn’t sold too well either. The top level was closed and the other two were not quite half full.
Reading back over this page there seems to have been a lot cut from it, no warmup man, no pub quiz, no game shows. But oddly they kept the Coronation Street bit, so Rory Bremner suddenly appearing as Hilda Ogden is much more jarring than I imagine it would have been in the original production.
I enjoyed it, but it felt slight, which is strange considering some of the themes it deals with. I do find that I keep thinking about it though.
The manipulation of facts to fit a media narrative/political agenda is always relevant, but horrifyingly so as the play’s use of footage of the “shock and awe” bombing of Baghdad can’t help but make you relate it to the current situation with Gaza.

A few thoughts from Saturday's matinee visit to the Lowry. Overall, it was good fun and Rory Bremner was brilliant as Chris Tarrant. Comparing the touring version with the WE run, I'd say that I found the WE version better both as a watch and general audience atmosphere with the warmup man, pub quiz and game show scene. With these bits missing from the tour, the tour version felt very different.
Having a look at the end of the show when the week's voting graphs came up on the big screens, interestingly, there wasn't much difference in the public vote amongst the week's audience. On average the split of guilty: not guilty was on balance 60 :40.

On average the split of guilty: not guilty was on balance 60 :40. I was there too. I'd booked upper circle but moved down to the dress circle, row F. Agree about Rory as Chris, and I enjoyed the Hilda Ogden moment too. A very talented supporting cast playing multiple roles and using multiple accents was a joy to watch as well. Not having seen the WE version, I thought this version was fine, and I didn't feel that there was a poor atmosphere in the theatre. Watching the second half really brought home just how nasty people can be; social media is so much more prevalent now than the time of this story, and it's disheartening to realise that things haven't got better, but far worse.
