I gave on to watching it. Enjoyed it but not the same without Mel and Sue or Kary. I like Sandi but Noel a bit less. Will watch the rest a show it is almost the same .

I can say I tried.. But not for me. Just doesn't have the same flow, it seems a little too forced for my liking. Oh well.

Loved it. Those mini rolls though... 😱 I guess the adverts will take come getting used to, but come on, Bake Off isn't the first show to ever have adverts. I really ain't a big deal. Sorry to see that some didn't enjoy - but it does confuse me because, as I say, I really don't see the difference. Of course GBBO will have adverts now it is on Ch4, but that is the difference and one of the reasons I didn't enjoy it. It spoils the flow and that last break was just revenue greedy! Anyway, in other world news.....

Anyway, in other world news..... Yes I agree, that 4th advert was a shame, but in hindsight with a 75 minute running time and the rumoured total length of adverts (17/19 minutes or something like that?), it makes sense that there would be 4. And now I know there are, I'm pretty much over it. And to me, they all seemed to fall at completely natural breaks in the show, i.e mostly at the end of challenges. I just don't particularly see it as that much of a big deal - but of course that isn't to say others won't! But yes you're right....far bigger things to be worrying about!

It's basically the same? If you watch earlier episodes on whatever satellite channel they've been popping up on lately, it took a while for the chemistry of the original four to settle, so it's a bit much to expect the new four to have it replicated or even bettered in the first episode. My family are quite chatty, so we actually quite liked the ad breaks for giving us a legitimate place to quickly share our opinions. I'll be interested to see what happens when things get to the crunch, that'll be the real test for me. Will Prue have Mary's kind words to offer when Paul's being too harsh? Will Sandi and Noel be able to soothe a sobbing contestant? (Of course, the *real* test of that one will be if we even see any sobbing contestants, what with Mel and Sue's genius tactic of making any meltdown footage unusable by shouting out swear words and brand names.) But otherwise, it's still twelve well-meaning strangers competitively making cake in a tent, and it's not like other competitive cooking shows haven't changed the judging/hosting line-up and still maintained the same level of watchability. (Also personally speaking I'm VERY glad it's on Tuesdays now, I have standing commitments on a Wednesday that made social media a bit of a no-go for the whole evening!)

I enjoyed it! As Baemax says above the early 'original' team took a bit of time to settle in, so I'm happy to give this lot a chance. I watched on delay so the adverts didn't bother me- and the only reason they would anyway is 90 minutes is a long TV commitment for me- I tend to watch 2 hours at a time max, so I think I'll stick to watching a bit later and whizz through the ads.
The feel of the competition felt the same- all well mannered and supportive, and the bakers were the usual mix of 'oooh check her out' and 'oh lord it's not going to end well'. Really liked Prue, she's not trying to be Mary 2.0, loved Sandy, Noel is ok and will be better once he settles in a bit I think (and Sandy sorts him out haha)
I did worry that Paul was going to do something unspeakable to that bread cake though.

Anyway, the criticism really, really confuses me. I can't tell whether some people were so adamant they weren't going to enjoy it that they forced themselves not to enjoy it. Or we just didn't like it? I'm rather bemused that you're confused that people might have a different opinion to you! I thought Prue Leith DID sound like she was impersonating Mary Berry - my opinion, that's all, and it didn't work for me. I thought Noel and Sandi had zero chemistry and were stilted and awkward (again, my opinion) - complete contrast to Mel and Sue. The format may not have changed, but to me there were differences. I'm glad you enjoyed it, but people are allowed to have different opinions to you and unfortunately it didn't work for me.

I'm just confused because it's basically the exact same show, first episode so as others have said, it'll settle. Didn't say you weren't allowed not to enjoy it, just my opinion that I can't see what's not to particularly enjoy. We could go in circles forever!!

Still don't like Prue's fashion choices though. I wonder if it's a determined effort to NOT look like The Berry but I think she's gone too far the other way. Very severe.

Some great ads!
Sandie is quite boring ... Pru was nice ... Noel is terrible ... and I've never really liked Paul
I doubt I'll watch it again

Well I quite liked it - Noel surprised me, I found him understated and not irritating, which I had thought I would. Sandi I like anyway and thought she was funny, though I'm not convinced this is really the vehicle for her. I'll wait to see how the chemistry between her and Noel progresses. Paul is Paul. I really didn't like Prue - I'd never heard of her before so wasn't expecting anything. I thought the standard was much better this year (well, apart from those mini rolls. Basic skills too!) Those showstoppers were amazing! My early likes are Steven, Tom (though that might not have much to do with his baking ) Kate and Vera Duckworth - that watermelon was stunning inside! I'm also loving Liam, though I'm not sure how far he'll go. Yan is annoying me and I have no idea how Stacey even got through auditions - everything she made looked like the sort of stuff my kids used to bring home from cooking lessons at school. (And I mean primary school.) Right person got star baker and wrong person went home, though they probably wouldn't have lasted much longer if they had stayed anyway.

I think it still works because it's really the contestants that make the show rather than the presenters, and God knows why, but you empathise more, and get emotionally drawn into their personal journey (sorry, hate that expression too) than with any other cooking show. All the new presenters were good and better than anticipated. Just the ads are an annoyance but I think I'll get used to that.

Couldn't bring myself to watch it. Don't like Noel, not that keen on Sandi and know nothing of Prue. No Mary = no bake off. Can't stand adverts either.

Although I boycotted the show, my inner self forced me to watch it on catch up. Didn't like Noel, he is a bit dull and has a scary face. Sandi who I normally like was non descript and I miss the relationship between Mel and Sue. Pru was dull as dishwater and Paul was Paul. However I really liked the contestants and there are some great characters especially Flo who I think is going to be very funny and Steve who is like Will Young with a beard and is going to cry a lot.

Noel and Sandi were very good (knew Sandi would be) and i dont miss Sues stupid ways of saying 'Bake', that had really started to grate last series.
But couldnt warm to Prue at all and the whole thing felt over produced and trying too hard. It had lost a certain simple innocence. Not sure ill carry on, ill just watch repeats on Good Food and Amazon.
Ugh and the adverts, why not just have two slightly longer breaks inbetween each round?! having them more regularly and before the judging killed the flow. If sky can have fewer ad breaks for mega hit like Game of Thrones then c4 could for bake off

I don't think Prue is trying to be the new Mary Berry, I think Prue is trying to be the new Paul. She's come in and gone, "Screw this, I know far more about baking than you, I'm the Simon Cowell of this judging panel!" (though as catchphrases go "dry" is not a patch on "soggy bottom") and left Paul floundering. You can see him debating if he's supposed to be 'the nice one' now. Or maybe it's the editing trying to make him look like 'the nice one.' Whichever, it's not working. There is no kindly figure exuding warmth and being supportive of the bakers any more.
I'll put peppermint in a mini roll with a gun to my head.

As someone who genuinely will not be watching a single moment on Channel 4, I'm not sure I'm allowed an opinion anymore, but, for what it's worth, Prue is not, and never has been, a baker, which is quite important for a show with 'bake' in the title. She is (was) a successful restaurateur and businesswoman, but never a baker.

By and large, Noel was the best part of the first episode for me. Funny guy.

I don't know, American MasterChef didn't suffer any for having restaurateur and winemaker Joe Bastianich as a judge for the first few seasons...

Awful, awful show. This is the antithesis of Masterchef Australia, what with its nasty judges spitting food out and tipping whole dishes into the bin and constant bitchiness between the contestants. Then there's Gordon Ramsay's knowledge of only 3 adjectives, not to mention his bizarre way of punctuating sentences in places that shouldn't be punctuated. I find it unwatchable. MC Canada is an even worse bitchfest.
