This new stage version of Half A Sixpence has a stellar creative team and reunites bookwriter Julian Fellowes with George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, the musical team that co-creator Cameron Mackintosh first put together to create the smash-hit stage adaptation of Mary Poppins with Disney. They have written an exuberant score that is inspired by and features several of composer David Heneker’s memorable songs from the original production, which he co-wrote with Beverley Cross, including the show-stopping Flash Bang Wallop, Money To Burn and the irresistible Half A Sixpence. Sounds like a hybrid half a sixpence, some old songs some new. |

Not that I'm complaining. It's nice to see productions get an extended life.
Will definitely see This House again. I wonder whether the Minerva will be fitted up with the MP benches like the Cottesloe was. Perhaps that's why there's refurbishments going on. Making the Minerva a more versatile theatre.
I'd like to see LLL and MAAN again, especially whoever is playing Rosaline and Beatrice
Excited for the Ibsen and Rattigan plays
Excited for Drewe and Stiles being involved with two musicals, but I am a bit nervous about Travels with My Aunt and Half a Sixpence. Just looking at the synopsis makes me think these musicals are targeting the elderly audiences Chichester attracts. Not half as exciting as Sweeney Todd, Singin in the Rain, Barnum, Guys and Dolls, and Gypsy. And remember how last year's Damsels in Distress went down.
Would be nice to see Bertie Carvel's directorial debut with Strife.
I was wondering when a Battle of the Somme play was going to turn up
Fracked? Eh. I'll give it a go.

I'm most interested in Strife, I think, and am otherwise ambivalent towards or distinctly disinterested in the others. I'll have to have a think about it. Looking forward to Daniel Evans taking over properly!

Whoops, have I made a mistake somewhere? No i did. I tried to add a quote from the chichester site and it attributed it to you but I couldn't change it, got an error calling me a fraud. Which to be fair I could be. Thanks for putting up the season info though. |

Is This House going to the Dorfman after its run at the Minerva or perhaps the West End. They actually planned for to the Aldwych back in 2013 but Stephen Ward ended up.
Here's hoping Half a Sixpence turns out that to be a better experience for Cameron compared to Barnum.

Yay. More Shakespeare's to tick off my list - I'm especially looking forward to Love labours lost
The musicals are very safe. Does Charlie have a co producer? It could work well the chocolate factory (didn't they do the play there a few years ago?) or in an another regional theatre

It's the same productions, Lynette. They've dropped the Love's Labour's Won title, and Michelle Terry doesn't appear to be returning, but it's the same creatives and Ed Bennett will be in both.

That's why I put in in the General Thread if someone wants to comment on a musical they find it all very confusing.
Some random thoughts;
Disappointed that there hasn't been more transfers from last year (Plays) especially For Services Rendered and Pressure, last year seems to be a terrible year, which looks like both musicals are not transferring.
This season looks very disappointing already, no real big musical, think I go down for Half a Sixpence though and the plays just don't grab me yet. Good to see them at long last do a British musical.
Chichester is a slow journey on a train, the station is a good walk from the station. You can be limited to just one show on a matinee show, unless 2 shows are playing in both theatres, something on in Southampton Mayflower or what I used to do and get back to Victoria and see either Billy Elliot or Wicked, this is very tight though and Billy Elliot is closing. So can be limiting.
Don't think This House will open in the National again, as ot has played there recently.
Barnum I saw both the Chichester version and the Tour version, they were like chalk and cheese.

He's leaving very big shoes to fill. Sheffield and Chichester are about equidistant for me (by car... public transport would be an entirely different calculation), and I expect my direction of travel may shift even more to the south now! |

A little over half of that programme is appealing (if I can find free Saturdays in a fairly busy 2016 calendar)... very happy to see This House again, and missed MAAN/LLL at Stratford (which is criminal given that it's only 20 mins down the road), so as penance will make the long drive to catch them in Chichester!

She's only Henrying until July, the Chich Shakespeares start in September.  I suspect you're right that she's not planning to return though, otherwise wouldn't they have wanted to announce her alongside Bennett? |
