("You f*** off, eh?" " EH?" "You for coffee?") Sadly, Richard Cant's "right constable" line has been cut from repeats of Midsomer Murders ep1.

I'm just getting around to Chernobyl; Jessie Buckley again! Yes, that's initially what made me look out for it, but the whole series is superb, one of the best things I've seen in ages. It also seems to be a proper word-of-mouth hit: I'm seeing everyone on my Twitter feed from French comic book artists to John Carpenter raving about it. It's he last episode tomorrow. I missed Wild Rose at my local cinema (my local is very popcorn/blockbuster oriented so it disappeared before I got the chance), and the blu ray isn't out till August so I'm hoping it'll reappear before then. They did a feature on her on Radio 4's film programme recently and she has shedloads of things lined up - everyone wants to work with her, unsurprisingly.

I'm just getting around to Chernobyl; Jessie Buckley again! I did a search first and she's mentioned earlier in this thread in Woman in White, Beast, War and Peace, The Last Post (being reshown on one of the Sky channels this week) and Endeavour. I'm looking forward to seeing her in Wild Rose (89% Rotten Tomatoes too). everyone has been talking about this at work, i will be glued to this over the weekend to catch up. I would rather watch that than the dreaded love island.

I've got mixed feelings on the series itself, but Year of the Rabbit on Ch4 / Sky/ Now TV has a great cast - see if you can spot David Dawson.

There's a John le Carre adaptation on Talking Pictures TV (Freeview 81) tonight, The Deadly Affair, that includes a theatre scene towards the end with an uncredited David Warner et al doing the death scene from Edward II. Warner's one of those actors I'd love a time machine to go back and see on stage, so this was a nice surprise. The film is based on the first Smiley novel, Call for the Dead, but another company had rights to the name so Smiley - James Mason - is renamed Charles Dobbs. Director Sidney Lumet reunited some of the cast, including David Warner, for his film of The Sea Gull a couple of years later.

This could be great: Andrew Scott as Ripley in a new series of Patricia Highsmith adaptations for Showtime in the US. They do Homeland, Patrick Melrose etc. so hopefully it will eventually be on Ch4 or (more likely ) Sky/Now TV.

You've probably all seen the ads, but worth mentioning here 'Coming soon on ITV' will be Imelda in A Confession. And she has consistently been the best thing about it! The pacing is quite patchy and there’s a lot of ‘actoring’ going on. Theres only really her and the guy who used to be in Corrie that I believe...

Two of my favourites, Joseph Quinn and Rory Kinnear in the Helen Mirren Catherine the Great on Sky/Now TV. The first episode is free through the Virgin Radio website, and the opening is very exposition-heavy but it settles down as it goes on.

Nicholas Gleaves, in a piece of quite brilliant casting I thought, is the new Demon Headmaster on CBBC (the original was one of my favourite programmes as a child, Terrence Hardiman was truly chilling. Gleaves is creepy in his own way, but then we're only one episode down so far).

Jon Jon Briones is on Ratched on Netflix, looking very dapper. The costuming is fabulous even if the soundtrack is so overbearing it makes watching a chore.
