As Pride is an event I know a fair few of us on here celebrate, participate in etc and that it's an event important to the theatre community I thought....why the hell not have a thread.
So if you want to share thoughts on Pride. Just shout about Pride and be loud and proud, here's a thread. If we want to share events around Pride others might be interested, here's a thread. If you just want to share pictures of yourself wrapped in a feather boa dancing at Pride, here's your thread.
Also many theatre-types and others are making videos and things that might be worth sharing. I was inspired by Pete Bucknall (ex Mr Carrie Hope Fletcher) who shared this lovely video: and on his channel is one with the Kinky Boots team.
Anyway, have at it. Happy Pride.
*I'm amused I'm starting this because Pride in Cardiff is a bloody month later than the entire rest of the world...

Looking forward to Brighton Pride in August. Always such a buzz around the city. The parade is amazing and the organisers have pushed the boat out for the ticketed park event and got Pet Shop Boys to headline. One of my favourite bands of all time (will be my 50th Pet Shop Boys gig)

I shall volunteering in London for the third year running. It means more to me to be doing something practical on the day rather than celebrating. So I shall be part of the Registration team. If you are a fellow steward/volunteer - come and say hello to me on the Underbelly desk!
I must be mad - but I am doing a full 15 hour shift!!

Love seeing those rainbows and thinking that I am lucky to live in such a tolerant society, where those of my friends who are, can be who they want to be, with a place to mark it, too. So true. Straight myself but labels arent a positive thing in this day and age. The Brighton event definitely has become a welcome symbol of tolerance generally over the last few years. The parade itself is very much a family event now though im sure the younger ones just love the colour of it all. I maintain that a massive step forward was the loss of the events own label as gay pride and it morphing into pride and the push here for inclusivity for all. The way it should be |

The way it should be Brighton Pride charges attendees a lot if they want the full experience. The same is true I believe of Birmingham and others. The fact that London doesn't is very important to me as everyone can be fully involved no matter their income. I am told that over a million people are expected to be on the streets next Saturday. I dont really think of the 25 quid I paid as a large amount but I agree the free events are far more inclusive. Im led to believe London has priced out some organisations from the parade in order to take the money from corporate giants which perhaps is the trade off for keeping the main event free.
In terms of Brighton charging both for the festival and the street party, its a victim of its own success and perhaps that of the Fatboy Slim beach party that saw 250000 flock to brighton beach on a hot summers day. I think local policing requirements have a lot to do with the charging as a way to control numbers especially for the street party which is in a fairly narrow street which when still a free event was quite dangerously overcrowded at times.
I guess what I am trying to say is that its Not ideal but in Brightons case is necessary.

Yes I resent paying for it. Of course I donate, but as stated above it should be open to everyone.
I did it years ago at Manchester and it so wasn't worth it. My friend once protested too.
That's why I'm so disappointed I can't go to London this year.

There will be 26500 people in the parade next weekend. The route has had to be extended to deal with the extra numbers. Yes there are many businesses but still lots and lots and lots of small groups.
Pride in London costs £900k to stage. Personally I prefer sponsors to charging. And if everyone who attended put £1 in a collecting bucket then sponsors wouldn't be needed!
It will still be a special day

I do think charging isnt ideal though. If I was free next Saturday I would head for London and enjoy the event myself. Ive never been to the London one but will get there one day

I now think a LOT more carefully about throwing a coin into any bucket, if I'm honest. It is for another topic i guess but I fully agree that charity fatigue comes in to it. |

I also like the alternative 'Pride Picnics' that crop up near most major Pride events, as a both 'free' and 'alternative' change of pace from the main event.
Cardiff charge, but it's not so horrendous that I resent it enough to not go (except the year it was in the awful stadium instead of the park)

I'm so poorly travelled I didn't realise that there were Pride events that did charge (other than after-parties). I had the privilege to be part of the Dublin Pride parade a couple of years ago and it was one of the most surprisingly uplifting experiences of my life. I'm not a very sentimental person (and certainly not one to readily find myself in parades very often) but it's one of those things I don't think I'll ever forget. It was such a raw, good thing. I'll be somewhere along the sidelines in London this year, hope to bump into some of you guys.

I live in a small town outside Valencia where this year they have painted some park benches in the colours of the rainbow. Madrid is hosting world pride this year with 2 million people expected to attend. It's wonderful to see all this progress and so many people who are ready to be loud and proud!

For anyone after a Pride which isn't London then Bristol Pride is also next Saturday (with events all throughout this coming week). It's unfortunate to be competing with London in terms of footfall, but unfortunately they moved their date when Bristol's was already set. Hopefully a great turn out for both events though  . |

Good group of senior peeps who take the time to meet and thank the volunteers. They need 1000 this year with a longer parade and Leicester Square being added for the first time as a venue. It will be a massive day and the weather should be ok! |

With the sun out today and this weekend and a cracking cricket test match occurring in North London and a brilliant tennis tournament in South West London.
I walked from the Ameida in Islington to Charing Cross via the Donmar Warehouse and the London streets were much busier than normal because of a certain event going on, where I noticed participants and that would be woman and woman hand in hand, man and man hand in hand and man and woman hand in hand. Well I enjoyed the atmosphere I missed my train I was aiming for, as I witnessed a great carnival atmosphere with spontaneous concert happening and another group dancing to stereo.
it so good to see an event that has moved from one of protest and one of fun and happiness. Westminster council have their work cut out doing the street cleaning later!!!
