I AM HAPPY!
Emma Rice's new national theatre company Wise Children, based in South West England, is born next year!
Uniquely, funded as an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation right from its inception.
I propose that, whem Emma departs in glory in April, the Board rebrands Shakespeare's Globe as Dumb Parents.

It does seem odd that it's been funded before it even properly exists, when many long-existing companies are denied funding.

There are over a hundred new NPOs but most of the others applied while they were already operating.
The vast majority of continuing NPOs will receive standstill cash grants for each of the seven years of the two NPO settlements, from 15/16 to 17/18 and from 18/19 to 21/22, so that's a general gradual reduction in real terms.
Only a handful of the megacompanies (NT, RSC, Royal Opera House) have a 3% cash cut in the second portfolio period, and a 4% cut for Southbank Centre, in recognition of the sad loss of the captal "B" in their name.
Exceptionally, Hampstead Theatre has a 14% cut of £122,000 per year. Perhaps they've now finished paying for their new theatre? Or is it because they programme so many crap plays?
The Bush will receive an additional £100,000 per year. Perhaps to reflect its newly expanded premises and operations with a Theatre, Studio and Attic? They deserve it!
Kneehigh is awarded an extra £95,328 per year. I expect they were originally promised £100,000 before the Cornish exchange rate changed. Good news!

This is very cool. I don't blame her for wanting her own company, rather than being someone else's hire.
Between her and Marianne's new company it appears women really are the future.

She seems to be the kind of person who works better as her own boss. Not everyone is skilled at negotiating the parameters that an employer expects and managing such a disparate collection of interests and functions in the one body. There's a lot of give and take involved and if she's not willing to do that stuff, kudos to her for realising this and getting a new company off the ground that will suit her style. And so quickly!
