Hi all, I am really short sited & wear glasses. I have always in the past used the binoculars that are available in the theatre. These are good but you cannot see the whole stage & they make your arm ache. I have been researching investing in my own pair but really dont know which ones to choose, any help would really be appreciated thankyou

When I was researching binoculars for birdwatching, I found this website very useful. They have a section dedicated to binoculars specifically for the theatre. www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/opera-binoculars-theatre-glasses.phpFor glasses wearers, the problem with some proper opera glasses is that they may not have adjustable eye cups/eye relief which is what you might find you need. It's worth reading the sections about that closely (I don't wear glasses myself). So you might find it better to get a pair of normal binoculars. Other things to look for would be a) no more than 3-5x magnification, b) wide field of view, and c) light. The website has reviews about different brands which list all this information. I used a cheap pair of binoculars for ages, which I thought were OK, but I have to say that now I have a much higher quality binocular the pleasure in using them is incomparable. If you are likely to use them a lot it's worth getting a good pair. Porro prism (which are the more old fashioned looking shaped binos) give better quality for less money than roof prism ('straight' looking binos) as they're easier to make. But they also tend to be less compact.
