To others on here who use Twitter, have you noticed anything odd about your timeline in the last 24 hours, please?
Mine is really misbehaving: not updating for hours and when it does, it includes tweets from people I don't follow so I can't stop them appearing unless I block the account, which seems a bit extreme; also, today every time someone I do follow "likes" another tweet, I get a blasted tweet telling me so! This never used to happen and it doesn't seem possible to disable the feature.

It's been okay, but I use Tweetdeck to look at my timeline 75% of the time, so I haven't quite experienced the issues you have.

Thank you, 49thand8th; I've heard of Tweetdeck but isn't that for multiple accounts? I only have the one so don't think I need it. What I did think was that if this business - receiving a tweet every time someone you follow "liked" another tweet - was an unannounced new feature, Twitter would have been inundated with comments, probably adverse. I don't see how I can be the only one affected and I've never received this type of tweet before.

This happened to me once before when I used Twittter ( I now use Tweetdeck too) Go into your settings and check the Apps. Delete any that you don't recognise or need.

It's nice because you don't see ads, you see all tweets chronologically, and it's much easier to look at lists. I use a lot of lists to avoid following too many people.

Thank you both for your suggestions, both of which I've now tried. There were few enabled apps in my settings but I disabled a couple to see if it had any effect: no. I then tried Tweetdeck but it still showed me a whole load of crud in the timeline which was of zero interest, so I shall just have to wait and hope that the normal version calms down. Meanwhile I am trying to speed up that process by saying "I don't like this tweet" each time a rogue one appears, which is laborious and I still don't understand why this is suddenly happening and apparently only to me.

also, today every time someone I do follow "likes" another tweet, I get a blasted tweet telling me so! Twitter was doing this to me a couple of weeks ago. Fortunately it seemed to stop after a few of days as it is incredibly annoying. I did find that going into Twitter, then clicking on something like my notifications or profile, then going back to my main timeline again seemed to remove some of the spurious tweets.
