I recall seeing messages from WestEndCovers confirming they were asked not to post covers any more. Absolutely ridiculous in my opinion, and only serves to look as though they are trying to hide things. Of course WestEndCovers have every right to post this info if they want to, but looks like they've respected it anyway. I'm not sure what confusion the powers that be at Heathers think is being caused, if someone tweets photos of their own castboards/cover notices. Perhaps if they could put the same level of effort into ensuring they're accurate, then they wouldn't have to worry.

I had no idea that had happened. Just thought they’d got very lucky with no one being off. Terrible! Unfortunately they haven’t been so lucky in the last couple of week I think Eleanor has been on for duke a fair amount and May for Veronica the other weekend and only last Sunday was Georgia on for Martha and then of course Hannah back covering stoner chick this evening

If X% of superfans are buying day seats each performance to see X performer they are obsessed with/fancy, that would be £X of revenue they are throwing away by saying they aren’t on. I can understand the logic. Ironically, some places actually don’t like it because it *causes* more complaints. If they post info, it can become out of date or was wrong to start with. Then the theatre gets complaints that such and such cover wasn’t on when they were “advertised” to be, and they have to deal with an unfair complaint/request for refund. It really does happen. Some producers are very sly, and the business is getting ever cynical. Jessie Buckley’s planned but unadvertised absences from Cabaret were discussed at length. Similarly Vanessa Redgrave in My Fair Lady…

Superfans of specific performers who won't buy that day seat because it's been announced their fav isn't on. But then superfans of the show who want to see every cover possible who will then immediately book to see X cover. Shrug.

I’m the complete opposite and will buy tickets when I know certain covers are on (especially people I’ve not seen before).
I do know that Tobias Turley went on as JD the other week and wondered why no one was reporting it. I think only the once. Now I know why. A shame, as I would have loved to have seen him.

It took me quite a bit of internet sleuthing then to work out who I’d actually seen and was surprised it wasn’t on West End Covers.

As I understand it the ensemble are all understudies for one or more principal roles and are also swings in that they reallocate any ensemble lines etc to other ensemble members when an ensemble goes on as a principal. The ensemble all have character names and distinct costumes but any individual roles are not essential to the plot and so are just left out. This seems a new thing for Heather's to bring in covers for an ensemble member? Maybe nearly all the other female ensemble where on apart from New Wave Girl so Hannah had to be someone else if they decided to boost the female ensemble numbers.

The show requires a minimum of 4 ensemble members to run the show, down to set movements, safety etc. Without Hannah last night on as stoner chick there would of only been 3 ensemble members (hipster dork, new wave girl and western surfer punk) so the show would of either had to do a concert version or be cancelled

So they’re reduced to ‘track’ names rather than actual characters now to keep the show going. How thoroughly artistic and organic. 🤣

Bayley who play stoner chick has just announced she is also 2nd cover Veronica and 3rd cover duke. Along with her, I’m assuming, normal 1st cover roles of Martha and Ms Flemming

Caught the Sunday early performance from the front row. First time for a few weeks. The new cast have really made the roles their own but there is a lot more exaggeration than there used to be. Various instances of barely hidden smiles and laughter on stage.
One woman yelled out "Oh my God" after the TV explosion, so that had more of an impact than usual.
It is so irritating that they don't advertise casts any more. In this case, they were down to two male and one female ensemble, with the female being Hannah Lowther, who we all know is incredibly talented but not even in the cast. The male ensemble were Lewis Asquith and Amonik Melaco.
I had a nice American guy sat next to me who I presume was on vacation. It was quite amusing as he mouthed along (silently) to every song that's on the original cast album, but not to any of the added songs. I think he enjoyed it.
There must have been lots of tourists in, as Steve was visiting from France. His friends found his involvement hilarious.
Billie Bowman was on as Heather Duke and Georgia Gagan as Heather Chandler. Both very good too.
Otherwise, this show is like a machine, but there are more offers than there used to be. Still, I can think of few better ways to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Excellent news. I think Heathers still has a few more years of life left in it at The Other Palace.

Sometimes I consider going to see Heathers again. Then I check tickets and remember how pricy they are...! I haven't seen it yet, as it's not something I'd pay a lot for - but I've just noticed: They're doing £25 seats for the 7 days ahead, on sale 10am online every Friday from The Other Palace booking page Use Promo Code DAYSEATS in band C and D, which is usually £44 and £37.

I mean if its paying the bills then why not extend?! Its not like its the only theatre in london The problem is that there are very theatres of this size where smaller shows could run for three or four months, which have no chance of a commercial West End run. It was fine when Heathers "debuted" at TOP and then moved to the West End and on tour. Similarly to how Six and Bonnie & Clyde started with limited runs at the small Arts Theatre and then moved on to bigger theatres for unlimited runs. It's a shame when one of the few small theatres that can serve as a launchpad is being clogged up by a long-run. If Six and even Bonnie & Clyde, which wasn't that much of a smash hit at the Arts, can secure West End venues, why not Heathers?

Also Heathers have already proved this theatre is not fit-for-purpose.
They're not able to hire enough swings for the size of the cast and this has been put down to the fact "there's not enough dressing room space" instead of a PTM money-saving tactic. The reason you don't hear about the disasters at Heathers now is because they don't want you to know about how many more previous cast members they've brought back to continue the show. Not acceptable for a run as long as this!
Plus the show is going on another tour. This is not like some of the bigger shows where they have been able to sustain a tour and a London production.
I'm very much on the side of give this space to another show. As much as I enjoy the show.

The irony is that a lot of the teenage fan girls dressing up and attending weren't even born when the film was released.
In fact, most of them have probable never seen it.

Close ‘the Gin Palace’ to make room? Pop a portacabin on BuckPal Road? There isn’t room? It isn’t a blag or a lie…short of putting a tent up at the side of the stage, or behind the 7.11 there IS NO ROOM. Deal with the real life consequence of putting a mid sized show in a small venue, or just don’t go. Creating a Scooby Doo conspiracy theory helps no one.

Haven't been backstage on this Heathers run to know if all of the below would work currently but... Convert the frankly rubbish green room would be my first suggestion, as was done on a previous show for a certain well know name to have their own dressing room. Failing that, remove some of the office space (if it is still in use) as with no new shows being programmed it seems a waste of space. Regig the upstairs plant room to allow for two dressing room places in there. If the weird liner office stage right is used by stage management as is the norm, regig the tech box to make a tech office there and utilise the office as dressing room. Alternatively, have off site swings who only come in and take up room when needed so the number of cast remains constant. It is not acceptable to run a show without adequate covering. It puts completely unfair pressure on the cast to not get ill, or a bereavement, or a life event, and creates logistical nightmares for resident director/dance captain/sound/wardrobe etc to make and keep track of changes.

Bingo! The actual ‘problem’ is the amount of cut shows being performed. Having some formally recruited, named off stage swings to save the day may well be the answer. But it might also be the difference between turning a profit and not. Leading to no ‘Heathers’ at all much sooner than anticipated.
