If any guys are getting ideas, PLEASE be absolutely certain that your other half would like a public proposal before going through with it. Sarah is absolutely delighted with her personal experience and I wish the two of them many happy years together. Alas, not every man proposing in such a public way is doing a nice thing; the dude may not be consciously emotionally manipulating his other half into saying "yes" where she might ordinarily say "no" or prefer to think it over before committing, but for less rock-solid relationships, emotional manipulation is exactly what it is. It takes an incredibly thick-skinned person to say "no thank you" when hundreds of strangers have their eyes on you. It's worked out beautifully in this case (I kinda want Sarah to have three bridesmaids; one in red, one in yellow, one in green, and maybe her "something blue" can be a wrist scrunchie ) but please don't mistake our wariness for bitter negativity.

Whenever I post a story about any real-life event I always worry that the person I'm talking about might read it.
(Which is why it's always a good idea not to exaggerate your role. "I single-handedly captured a mugger!" "Well, kind of. You wet yourself in terror and he laughed so much he ran into a lamppost.")

The story was posted on twitter I was “just the messenger” of the facts as read. And also shared my opinion of such a thing.
As Sarah seems to want to pass judgment though, my not wanting a public proposal doesn’t mean I’m destined to live a life bitter and alone (and even if I was alone well what’s to say I wouldn’t be perfectly happy)
But as we’re airing dirty laundry, as it were: I’ve no desire to get married at all. And be that to my current fella, future fella, future woman alone or indeed Fleeshman’s pants...I’m perfectly content. But please no public proposals.
But thanks for taking time out of your day to be concerned about my bitter and alone future.

Hi so im the girl who was proposed to yes he new what the musical was about, although it about murder, they sing how their love is god. The reason my other half propsed (if you watch the video) is because i love the musical, esipally heather as it my favioute movie and also the first movie we watched together. I hope one day you will find someone who makes you as happy as my other half does, instead of being negative about an amazing gesture. Veronica also abandons JD after he physically harms her, and after it turns out he wants to, uh, murder everyone in the school. He's a nutcase, she's gullible. I'm sure it's very sweet and I wish you well (as does everyone else on this board, I imagine!) but the reasoning is a bit funny. Incidentally some acquaintances of mine got engaged after he quoted something from The Taming of the Shrew to her (she's called Kate). It's a play about appalling domestic violence... I Will Always Love You (a song about leaving someone) and Saving All My Love For You (about having an affair with a married man) are probably popular wedding dance songs, so I suppose this isn’t all that bad in context.

It’s about context. I don’t doubt Sarah’s was with the best of intentions. But Marry Me a Little is used as a wedding song, and is about almost the opposite. I mean i love me some Rent but that’s hardly a romantic set up for a proposal in my eyes!! “I do take thee, for five years or however long before I die horribly” I’m being sarcastic. And of course it’s whatever floats your boat personally.

I agree but I don't think he was thinking about the context and how it relates to our life (far from that at all). why is the reasoning funny may i ask? He wanted to propose and i was desprate to see heathers!! (Its incredible btw) Congratulations! I wish you both all the best for your future together. I guess some of us find it funny because a musical about murder just doesn't seem very romantic? But if you look at it as just being a show you really wanted to see then I guess it's not so weird. As long as it makes you happy!

Well congratulations Sarah. One word of advice. Don't sign a pre-nup. Unless you're the one with all the cash.

That’s a form over content thing, isn’t is. A bit like Have A Nice Day by the Stereophonics being used on holiday adverts when it’s actually meant to be ironic, and was inspired by a taxi driver rant about how terrible tourists are.

Form over content is also what they teach you in sex addiction classes. Ahem so a leading theatre critic tells me* *part of this may be a lie ** probably the 'leading critic' part.

I mean they way it plays on stage Veronica looks pretty dumb in that scene to be fair. Also she lures the boys to the cemetery, so she's at the very least an accessory to murder. I also can't help but be amused that everyone basically shrugs their shoulders and sings a happy song seconds after JD dies. Despite Veronica professing her love for him...

I have this thought in my head that in the workshop productions, Andy Fickman read the stage directions and JD actually swapped the cups around while Veronica was distracted - am I imagining this (as in, does anyone else remember this from the workshop)? In any case it would be a smart move imo.

I saw the workshop a couple of times and in my head can hear Andy emphasising that Veronica picks up the wrong mug, no input from JD (though that’s not to say they didn’t try something different at some point throughout the workshop week)

No you're right that's how it's staged (at least that's my memory of it at the Haymarket) When I saw the first preview it was the same as The Other Palace where she simply picked up the wrong cup. I think I'm making it up but it'd be way better and more sinister in that moment if JD swapped the cups round so Veronica thought she was picking up the correct cup and actually hasn't. The way it's staged currently just makes her look a bit dim haha. Oh well!

This is the kind of thing that puts me off booking I mean they aren’t really hurting anyone....they’re just sitting there in costume. I went on a Saturday matinee so peak fangirl time, and everyone was well behaved. There were whoops for a few favourite lines/songs starting but really not that distracting. Honestly the audiences at “older” shows are far more badly behaved. If it’s an idea they “shouldn’t be” dressing up, honest question (to anyone) why? I mean last night was Halloween anyway but in life in general, a bit of cosplay never hurt anyone surely?
