Did I dream that this posted a January closing notice? Can’t find any info about it. No official announcement yet that I know of, but my assumption is that it will announce closure for the end of the current booking period, which is October 20th.

Does anyone know if this show uses dynamic pricing? I have a spare afternoon this Wednesday which I could use to finally catch this. Rush tickets are £25, but Matt Cardle does not do Weds matinees.

Is it not selling too well then? Both times I've been the stalls have been almost full at least.

But is the show extending beyond October? Leaving it late to announce?

My understanding for a while was Matt was doing 8 weeks and then there was a serious name (that's the only info i got given) coming in to do a stint as Wally. With him extending past his 8 weeks, it makes me think that this is it, and the production will close...

But is the show extending beyond October? Leaving it late to announce? I thought the same too, but perhaps they are waiting for Strictly Come Dancing to come back on screen and see if that affects sales before making a decision to extend or close? Pure guess though.

I see on the ATG website that it has only extended by one week until 27th Oct so it looks like it will be closing then.
If so, I wonder what will go into the Piccadilly before Christmas?

I suspect with the late notice, we may see the same situation that The Girls had, where they may throw a limited run or two in, before a long runner comes in early next year.

Matt Cardle’s Twitter:
“Over the moon to be asked to extend my run as #WallyStrand in @strictlystage 🙏 If you haven't been yet you can book tickets online through to October 27th. If you've been already... come again 😂 xx”

No surprises there. Had lots of potential but the whole thing just fell flat.

Didn't like this much. It had a strange resistance to be a musical; Will Young showboating through the show was a little irritating; it had an odd and ugly set that limited the amount of space for dancing.

I had hoped to see this at the WYP but sadly missed it. Then when I heard of the changes and stunt casting it put me off. Such potential wasted.

It would always be a difficult sell without the Will Young fan club in every night. I don't think Matt Cardle has the same sort of fan base.

I had no interest in seeing this after the changes made for the West End Transfer and definitely after Cabaret I'm not a fan of Will Young. Generally against stunt casting.
However, what really surprised me was Will Young during his run had less than 5 posts maybe on social media about the show. Surely, one if you enjoy it you'd post about it and secondly if stunt casting surely promoting it on social media is part of it. He was heavily promoting his podcast or something.
Is there any truth that he was asking for payment for posts?

Just to say, the film version of this (and also Kinky Boots) are currently free to watch/download on iPlayer.

Made a return visit to the show last night through one of the many ticket offers. Front row Stalls, excellent view due to the low stage and much better leg room than the Dress Circle. Still a very cramped seat, as the show attracts many larger ladies.
Only one of the three leads (Zizi Strallen) was on.
Justin-Lee Jones was on as Wally Strand (unadvertised). Sang very well, better than Will Young, although had the annoying but now common tendency to not pronounce the end of a lot of the words. Australian accent for the spoken parts, but not the sung ones. Stayed largely out of the way. He did have a Matt Cardle joke.
Dale White was on as Scott Hastings. He was good.
Not sure which other covers were on. I didn't see cast lists or announcements about the covers anywhere, although I'm sure there must have been.
A little disappointed not to see Matt Cardle (I doubt I'll attend again), but no complaints about the replacement cast. And with the way Wally was played, the show really doesn't need a star in that role.
There was a forced attempt to get a standing ovation at the end, which didn't really work, although a few people did get up.
Upper Circle looked like it was closed. The other levels looked fairly full.
Watchable enough. It has grown on me since I first saw it on Australia.

Caught this yesterday evening on a discount. Wasn't expecting much but love Drew McOnie's work so thought would give it a go. Hadn't seen the film or the Australia/WYP incarnations of the musical.
Have to say I really enjoyed it. Not the best thing I have ever seen and not enough for repeat visits, but great fun, stunning dances and well sung by a charismatic Matt Cardle. A nice feel good show.
Oh and Liam Marcellino who was on for the lead was both incredibly talented and incredibly gorgeous. So that was nice.
Audience demographic mainly drunk middle aged women from the home counties and there was plenty of fodder for the bad behaviour thread. Also have never seen such a filthy carpet. The ATG theatres seem to be increasingly unpleasant and also try to sell you something every time you breath. But there we are.

Finally saw the matinee today. Really, really enjoyed it. Liam Marcellino was on for Scott, you wouldn’t know he wasn’t the lead. Zizi was perfect, it really was her show in my opinion. Amazing choreography. Matt Cardle really surprised and impressed me. A great voice and actually played Wally as a character - I was concerned it would just be a bit of an unnecessary part. I did like how the narrator did the singing as it allowed much more intense dancing from the principals. Didn’t see the show’s previous incarnation, but I can’t imagine such impressive dancing if the leads had to sing too. And the songs were great, how they fitted to the emotions the characters feel was very well placed. A jukebox musical that I’m overall impressed with. As they doing a very good student rate Monday to Friday at £25 tickets (including the premium seats) I will hopefully go back before the run ends. It’s the sort of show that I can imagine being a guilty pleasure and is just uplifting and heartwarming if that is what you’re looking for.
