I am also a civil servant. Only meant to be a stop gap job but been 14 years now. I dream of leaving but also fear the outside world so will probably be here until I retire, well that's if they let us they keep sneaking that retirement age up!! I went to the civil service as a temp and stayed for 17 years. It's very easily done. Great pay, great holidays and good pension. It's a shock to now be in private sector.

Restaurant manager with an attitude (according to one of our recent FB reviews)...dont normally have an attitude in work but when a customer sees me slam my hand in the kitchen door, then assumes that even though I have blood dripping from my fingers I am going to go and get them a drink instead of rush to the bathroom with a first aid kit, they can bloody well f# k off. Oh the joys of serving the common public folk.

I’m a chemical engineer. My job involves building computer simulations of a client’s plant (usually oil and gas or petrochemicals), the simulation models then being used for testing out the control and safety systems for the plant, or for training the control room operators.

I just completed my degree in Theatre & Professional Practice and am a Bar Supervisor at the Bedford Corn Exchange, No way! I'm from Bedford!! Next door on the right from Burger King is (used to be?) a cafe and I lived above that for years! Travesty they closed the Bowen West Theatre to mark flats ...and I'm also an ex-Bedford College/DMU/Plophill/Lansdowne refugee! The nights I toiled/was tortured/had my senses assaulted at the Bowen West!

I didn't live here until I hit 18 for University, but have lived here ever since.

Had some great times in Bedford, the pinnacle of which was drunkenly meeting Ken Morley/Reg Holdsworth in the Harper Centre. We were traumatised for days.
I'm a bitter Restaurant Manager but loving my latest role to bits so no bitterness is seeping out just yet!

I'm still a student, writing a PhD on stand-up comedians. Which, incidentally, isn't as funny as you would believe.

Now I just spend it working and drunk.

Combining two threads - Bedford & Audience Participation - I see that Every Brilliant Thing, the longrunning play from Paines Plough and Pentabus, is at the Quarry Theatre, Bedford on Tue 2 May. Highly recommended for humans. www.painesplough.com/play/every-brilliant-thing

What does 'economically inactive mean?
That might apply to me. Currently 'resting' or 'not working'. By choice but am enjoying it way too much so should make an effort to get back to something soon. Or not.
Previously nearly 33 years in the 'public sector', obviously due to some mental imbalance on my part, 18 in the NHS, then 15 in the Criminal Justice System, because clearly the previous 18 years TAUGHT ME NOTHING!!!

I also work for an exam board, administering Drama exams. I also sadly run my blog viewfromthecheapseat.com, which is an unpaid reviewer gig but I get free tickets and I am drinking more free booze than ever before so I enjoy it.

Curiosity often gets the better of me and as I've been following the 'How was your day?' thread, it's struck again. Please tell me what you all do job/career/study/time-wise! And yes I NEED to know, otherwise I might just burst. I'll start-I work for the Police, risk analysis and research (snooze). Over to you... I am a disabled kitchen hand at a michelinesq venture
