The catalogue of songs that are a big part of 007's cinematic adventures range from Lulu's "he has a powerful weapon" through Rita Coolidge's "sweet distraction" and of course DSB warbling her way through three tunes. From Nancy Sinatra to Sam Smith via Madonna and Adele not forgetting Gladys Knight who seemed to have a "Licence to Kilt"! Let's not forget that Sheena Easton did her turn with "For your eyes only" before going down 42nd Street.
Which is your favourite James Bond theme tune and why?
My nomination is DSB and "Goldfinger" - the sweeping orchestrations, the big punchy finish, tells you what to expect.
Over to you..........

Goldeneye's my favourite to sing. Nobody Does It Better is just a great song. Goldfinger definitely deserves a mention.

You Only Live Twice, Live And Let Die, Nobody Does It Better, A View To A Kill, GoldenEye. Not too keen on any of the theme tunes after GoldenEye to be honest.

Live And Let Die for the sheer drama of it It's a terrible karaoke song, but it's BRILLIANT for a bit of shower belting.

Didn't Gladys Knight refuse to sing it as "Kill" for religious reasons?
(she wasn't religious enough to turn down the paycheck apparently!)

It's not a theme song but I like Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown which can be heard in On Her Majesty's Secret Service during the alpine village scene. Written by Hal David and John Barry and sung by "Nina". It's very 70's Eurovision.

The Man With The Golden Gun naturally.
Any song that begins with "He has a powerful weapon, he charges a million a shot" is fine and dandy with me and Lulu gives it some wellie too.

That Duran Duran one with Grace Jones got a lot of wear on my cassette player back in the day.

Live And Let Die for the sheer drama of it If you don't count the repeat lines, it has the shortest lyric of all the Bond themes.

Probably a controversial choice, and I wouldn't say it was my favourite, but I do really love the song You Know My Name by Chris Cornell which accompanied Casino Royale (2006 version). Other than that, I do LOVE me a bit of Thunderball (and the story that goes with it - that Tom Jones fainted after holding the big note at the end when he was recording the song) and Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever (maybe I just love Welsh belters/beltresses), Nobody Does It Better and Skyfall. Hard to chose a favourite. But what I do know is that I hated Writing's On The Wall - Sam Smith's version, anyway.

What a delightfully random thread. Goldfinger with Shirley Bassey's amazing voice gotta be number 1 and sums up whole Bond thing for me, nostalgia, o it was so glamorous times.

I nearly said Chris Cornell too, so you're not alone theatremadness !! :-) Ah hooray!! Suited the new Daniel Craig era quite well, I thought. But I also just like the song as a song.

Nearest I got was a day out in Geneva last year!!

For Your Eyes Only (for the sentiment) and Skyfall (partly for the sentiment, but also because I think it fits Craig's Bond very well).

I would love them to make a Bond film with Phoenix in the title - then Conchita can re-release Rise Like a Phoenix - which has to be the best non-Bond Bond song ever!
