Waiting to see what today's big political announcement is all about... When a general election is the best case scenario....
Or as I said on Twitter, maybe it's aliens.

My best guess is that May is stepping down for personal reasons. There are rumours of a snap election, but I can't see what would be gained by that.

Theresa May has examined all the evidence and is leaving the Tory party to join the Scottish Nationalists.

"I've decided that Edinburgh is a much nicer place than London, which is, let's be honest, a bit of a dump. So with immediate effect our entire government will be moving north of the border. England, Wales and Northern Ireland will become states in the Kingdom of Scotland."

I am extremely relieved to hear she's planning on an election, though doesn't she need to get a lot of MP support before she can make it formal?

Yes, at least two thirds in tomorrow's vote.

I'm going to break this off into a separate thread. Give me a moment.

Tory MPs will be falling all over themselves for an election now, with Labour and Lib Dems unelectable still. A couple of years of Brexit-based f***-ups would have left the opposition in a much better position. Ugh.

Well on one hand we're not going to war with anyone (today anyway) on the other...well, balls.

Oh God, I cannot take another political campaign in which Boris Johnson will be prominent...
Though if they do those dreadful televised debates, watching Corbyn try to cope will be darkly hilarious.

It's just going to be the same old sh*t though. Without voting reform, the safe constituencies are going to stay as they were, so we're going to have to count on the more contestable constituencies wanting to make a change, and if they don't, then we're still going to end up with a Tory government, who will use their victory as justification for plowing ahead with all their plans, tossing out words like "mandate" and "will of the people" like 37% is an *actual* majority, and not just what happens when you pretend the population is too thick to rank their favourites in order of preference and therefore first-past-the-post is definitely the best option.
I'm so goddamned burnt out on politics.

May's speech came across as "How dare people think anyone is allowed to oppose what I want?" If people are opposing her in parliament they're doing so because that's their job. Nobody is there to rubber-stamp the PM's orders.

Jeremy Corbyn will resign in the early hours of Friday 9 June 2017. As hard as I try to imagine that, and I do try hard, I just can't imagine him ever resigning. I originally helped vote him in, but I am utterly sick of that man's ineptitude and completely blind arrogance.

So who to vote if you're conservative pro-EU? Pick your priority - conservative *or* EU. In an ideal world, politics would be about voting for the best option, but we live in reality, where you have to decide on your least worst. We can't even necessarily afford to fish around for a candidate from a smaller party that best represents what we want, I know I'm certainly going to have to throw my weight behind my MP's nearest contestant whether I like them or not, because I've been voting against my MP for years now and have no plans to stop yet. (Sorry if that's a bit "preaching to the choir", I am endlessly frustrated by how politically disenfranchised non-Conservatives are where I live.)

It seriously might be the only option and I never thought I'd find myself saying that... At the moment we're essentially a one party state and this election is going to make that worse.
