Just saw that one too! Pretty cool, although it's quite obvious. I presume the flash was supposed to happen a second sooner, so you don't actually see the dress being ripped off. Of course it's just previews, so they'll work it out before it goes to Broadway. All in all quite nice, but nothing we haven't seen before in Aladdin.

I'm disappointed they don't have any kind of staircase. Sorry. The theme park Hyperion version in California is pretty amazing with the huge ice crystal that comes down into the audience too. This looks tame in comparison and it should be better!

The buzz around this show seems unprecedented. So many pictures and videos popping up. And it's been open like two days and there's already a full audio recording of it.

It's not open it's still in previews and from reading about it, the show needs workkkkkkk. Fingers crossed they get it right - if it hits the spot it could run for decades.

I meant it has been open to the public for a few days.

Not really, if you venture into the dark web of Broadway bootlegs you'll know that just about every major musical is bootlegged to death, some with much better footage than this.

Yes, but even during previews of out of town tryouts? After 2 days?

Yes, but even during previews of out of town tryouts? After 2 days? Yes. Then I guess it's just my friends who are more obsessed with this show and therefore send me more bootlegs

I think it has a lot to do with the source material and expectation. People are already familiar with the story and score and are just curious how it would translate on a stage, versus an original work where people have no sense of what to expect. I remember a similar bootleg frenzy when Hello, Dolly opened with Bette Midler (and later on Donna Murphy). Recordings were flying all over the web.

Yeah I remember a very similar thing happening when Anastasia was in Hartford, I believe there was an audio bootleg after the first preview.

mmm...more iPhone footage found its way online. Guys, it looks really basic and juvenile. I really wanted it to be slightly more its own beast than the cartoon on stage. And all the queens are upset that Let It Go is extremely scarce and minimal. Kinda agree. It should rival Defying Gravity.

Oh dear. Sounds like another Aladdin. Can't say I'm surprised considering how much it was apparently fast-tracked through pre-production, but I too was hoping for something for individual, especially with Michael Grandage at the helm (although I wonder how much the Disney producers impose their own decisions).

You wanted it to be more than the cartoon on stage, I don't even think it's as good as the cartoon from hat I've seen. Let It Go is extremely underwhelming. It's just the quick dress change, which we've seen before in Aladdin. Other than that it's a talented girl singing a nice song in front of a pretty yet slightly boring set. 14 years running and still no show has been able to rival Defying Gravity. Only A Whole New World came remotely close. But even the excitement of that neat trick wore off rather quickly because they're literally flying for a few minutes straight, and they're just going back and forth across the stage. Neat, but not phenomenal. And we all know that these days it's possible to put incredible things on stage if you really want to.

Considering how successful Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast are, the latter is essentially the film on stage, I think it'll still make a boatload of money for Disney

I wouldn't say its "just" that, it is also the progressive build of the song, with the Ensemble joining, as well as not just the flying effect but also the lighting design and the staging of it in its climax. It is a very powerful stage moment when done well.

Ok the costume change is good but just a sparkly cloth backdrop and her singing centre stage? DISNEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!!! The theme park version at the Hyperion in California is better!!! It needs an ice palace, projections of shooting snow, fireworks, hydraulics, the whole theatre to be transformed, ice crystals rising from the stage, a huge blue chandellier lowering down and that STAIRCASE!! ANY STAIRCASE! Did anyone else think this?!! Aaarrgghhhhh!!!!

Why is it so basic. At least have some kind of set change or lighting change or something. They were never going to recreate the scene in the movie but they literally haven't even tried.

Not impressed. Caissie sings it beautifully (no surprise) and it's pretty. But this could and should have been so much more. Where's the "Wow" factor? Feels like a missed opportunity.

It probably still will because it's Disney, and no matter what the show itself will be very popular. Hamilton also got nominated for set design (and won I think), while in my opinion that set is incredibly boring.

I also think it looks way to basic... They could have used some projections at least... If you look at that bad quality iPhone video it looks like she's just waving her arms while singing. But if you listen to the audio it sounds like there are some sound effects that suggest there's more happening. Maybe we just can't see that because of the bad video quality. I love the glittery curtain though. But the moment that really made me laugh (and not in a good way) was when she took her hair clip out and just tossed it over her shoulder. I mean really? This looks so weird. Sven looks great. It's basically the hyena costume from the lion king but it looks pretty effective. And Olaf looks well... just like Olaf. I think it's better than someone in a costume. I guess it will be really successful, no matter what. Frozen has a massive fan base. My niece is just a little older than the film and she has been a fan forever. She's still wearing her hair like Elsa and she has that dress that she wears all the time. The fandom never seems to end for that movie...

just saw both Videos, the one with Cassie and the Hyperion - well, both are good but not perfect in my opinion the dress change is waaaaaaay better in the Cassie version, the background with all the glittering ice and projections is better in the Hyperion one. But i don't miss the staircase - it is driving me nuts, and that after one time viewing it, all that turning, urgh and to be honest, all that running up and down the staircase does not do the singing any favour, not a fan of the Hyperion Elsa combine the 2 or something

I agree, Hamilton wouldn't of deserved that set award at all, She Loves Me set deserved it, that set was amazing! Whilst Hamilton's is quite static and doesn't really do much. The most impressive part is the revolve, but even then it is only impressive these days because of the choreography done upon it. It won't win that award in London either, I imagine based on what has already opened, it will be 42nd Street or Angels in America for the win with that one.
