Hi there, I am starting up a theatre company, of which I am the director, with two actors, and I'm looking for a play that would make for an appropriate two-man show, hopefully to be toured around local venues and ultimately the fringe. For the sake of believability I would like to cast the actors as roles within their playing age (not worried about accents, though the actors are both English). Please no plays with female characters, simply because I have to work with only who I have available, and no more than two characters unless the actors playing multiple parts is appropriate to the piece.
The one play I have found, and am currently considering as an option, is 'Milked' by Simon Longman.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you folks can give, greyelf

Sorry, I couldn't resist that! In case they don't measure up there's always Pinter's Dumb Waiter? Albee's Zoo Story? (Not sure if they're the ages you really want...)

Ooh, I like challenges like this. How about 'Zoo Story' by Edward Albee?

What's the play about two young men who have committed a murder together? Features a suitcase onstage throughout (which we believe contains the body...)
EDIT: Rope by Patrick Hamilton (based on the Leopold and Loeb case)

A Breakfast of Eels by Robert Holman Thrill Me (musical based on Leopold and Loeb - maybe what Caiphas is thinking of? I think the play of Rope has more characters) Over There by Mark Ravenhill (identical twins!)
Written for two male actors playing multiple parts - Patrick Barlow's shows for National Theatre of Brent (The Messiah, The Wonder of Sex, Love on the Throne) Stones in His Pockets
A Number (fails on the age criteria though)
There are others but not a huge number! Samuel French and Nick Hern's websites will let you search by cast size and gender, incidentally.

Is that any way to welcome a new member ? Well I've come up with a couple of suggestions off the top of my head, not to mention a bit of a jest, lynette, which is more than you've managed! EDIT- just realised that you might be trying to upstage my little joke... member...

The Woman in Black... (again the ages aren't ideal.) Needs a woman, for the woman. Not necessarily... She could be all in the imagination... Oh, and I've just this second got the "keep up" reference! ( Not a joke!)

For the sake of believability I would like to cast the actors as roles within their playing age What is their playing age? I would say between the ages of 18-23: I am, however, willing to push this a little, if only by a couple of years, depending on the material and whether it is something we have a shared interest in doing.

I think 'Rope' mentioned some posts back is an excellent suggestion. 'Stones in his pockets' - if they are good at accents/multi-role.

Steven Berkoff has written several short plays for two male actors. Sam French has an anthology in stock.
