I heard a song that they released the other day, and know somewhere I have a video of Samantha Barks in it but I haven't seen it yet. The music sounds very Duncan Sheikh..it wasn't my cup of tea, but it's one of the shows I intend to see in New York in May.

I saw it a couple months ago during its pre-Broadway run in Los Angeles.
I'm sure it will have changed some since then. Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to have fixed all of the things that were wrong with it, including a samey-samey score & tissue-thin characters.
Overall, it seemed more interested in referencing the film (by, for example, shorthanding character interactions or inserting plot points without any development) than in establishing its own identity as a theatre piece.

I will watch anything with Phillipa Soo. Literally anything.

Might see if I can pick up a cheap ticket this weekend, sounds odd but I'm intrigued to see this now.
Is it bad or is it destined to be one of those that people didn't get now but may have life in fringe down the years!

Is it bad or is it destined to be one of those that people didn't get now but may have life in fringe down the years! I don't think it's a bad show. It's a cute, 100 minute, whimsical little thing. I personally think the score, whilst being nothing spectacular, is kind of delightful, although others disagree. The main issue is that the best thing they had is Phillipa Soo and they didn't take advantage. It should be against theatre rules to not have your star of the show perform a big solo where they get to show off their talents. Nevertheless, her and Adam Chanler-Berat are two of the most adorable actors on Broadway and have a sweet little chemistry. If you can get a cheap ticket (you shouldn't have a problem doing so), I think it's worth it. It might be more disappointing if you're a fan of the movie however.

I'm disappointed that it closes just a week before I planned on seeing it.
They've released "Times Are Hard for Dreamers" and I really dig the song. Too bad it didn't last.

Thanks! I didn't know that. (Listening to it now)
Samantha Barks recorded an Amelie song on her album, do you know what song that was? I have the album but I can't tell.

Is it bad or is it destined to be one of those that people didn't get now but may have life in fringe down the years! It would be better if it were bad, honestly. It's just so very, very meh. For a short, intermission-less piece, it seemed to go on forever. I don't think I've seen more seat-fidgeting, watch-looking, and nodding-off from an audience before. I don't think that people didn't "get" the show, as there's really not much to "get". It doesn't have edgy or bizarre subject matter ( American Psycho, Assassins, Carrie, Sideshow). It's not playing with the form ( Merrily We Roll Along). It's a straightforward, mundane retelling of the movie. It leans too much on its source and never finds a way to become its own beast. I also doubt it will have much of a life later. The best thing about the production is a colorful, whimsical set design that captures the look of the movie. Fringe productions would not be able to replicate that, and the show is just not good enough to warrant more investment or energy, imo.

It's closing in May. Shocked as to how quickly turn around is on Broadway. Not even open for 2 months, that's so rare in London

Not even open for 2 months, that's so rare in London Probably has a lot to do with how many new musicals open on Broadway compared to here where a lot of it is Broadway transfers that are already tried and tested. Also, this season was ridiculously busy with 13 new musicals so I'm surprised only a few have folded so far.

You're complaining yet also stating her name randomly in places?

It's closing in May. Shocked as to how quickly turn around is on Broadway. Not even open for 2 months, that's so rare in London I was planning to see it in June but knew as soon as the Tony noms came out that it wouldn't survive which is quite a bummer. Broadway feels much more commercial and business-oriented than London - if a show is not performing well and doesn't get Tony nominations around this time of the year, it usually means quick death. Box office performance was poor to begin with and only got worse once the reviews came out. I agree that it feels that the season was extremely busy which didn't help the show either.
