Has anyone here ever worked for ATG? Good or bad company to work for?

There are most likely a fair few, but alot of them won't be allowed to say they do on here because of the line of buisness they work for. They can get in alot of trouble if, for example, they find out stuff to do with shows and reveal it before it is announced etc. So alot of the, are asked to stay anonymous or not reveal their job titles on boards like this.

Have an opportunity to work for them but unsure whether to leave a comfortable job to work in the theatre industry which I have wanted to for a while now but for rubbish pay!

I'd take money over job satisfaction any day.

I'd take money over job satisfaction any day. I'd do the exact opposite.

I'd rather strike a happy medium personally but if I had to pick one, money is slightly preferable due to not living in an especially cheap area of the country.

I'd take money over job satisfaction any day. This is the choice I made and I'm pretty satisfied with it

I don't like money, it is the route of all evil. I'd rather earn minimum wage and do something I love than do something I hate for a huge pay sum.

Incorrect quote! It is actually the LOVE of money that is the root of all evil. I don't love money, I just love being able to pay my rent and bills, eat food, buy theatre tickets, lend money to friends in need, make charitable donations to causes dear to my heart, buy gifts for people, etc. Loving money for money's sake isn't good, but wanting to make a decent living that allows you to live your life isn't evil.
I wouldn't take a well-paid job that I ABSOLUTELY HATED but if I were choosing between two jobs that were both good enough and otherwise equal (in hours, responsibility, location, etc), I'd take the one that paid better. Would any of us honestly do otherwise?

Would any of us honestly do otherwise? Hear hear. I'd also add that a huge proportion of anxiety can be attributed to money worries. There's been a proportionate increase in mental health problems as poverty rises. It's worth a lot to be able to go out or go on holiday and not have to worry about spending too much or having to feed a family or pay your rent.

My friend works front of house at one of their theatres and loves her job. She has worked in independent theatres previously and much prefers this one. She gets good hours, better pay, good flexibility with time off and is looked after well by her management.
If you're more meaning within the business side of the company such as on the phones or within the organising of the company as a whole then I can't help with that.

Incorrect quote! It is actually the LOVE of money that is the root of all evil. Not an incorrect quote, I do think money is the root of all evil. I get that we need it to live in this day and age and so on, but I hate it. But bear in mind you are talking to someone who has the opinion the world is f***ed and we just need to start over. So mine may not bethe best view haha. But I resepctyour views, I don't mean to be rude @baemax.

Oh, it is a quote though, quite a famous one of some several hundred years standing. www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Timothy+6%3A10&version=KJV (Paul gets it. Hopefully Timmy did too, once he'd read his letter.)

Daniel - I preferred your original quote with money being the route of all evil - it works a treat!
I worked a lower paid job I quite liked for 38 years in order to get the decent pension that went with it. Now I'm really happy!

I see the Donmar have fired ATG as their ticket agents and are handling booking themselves now. GOOD.

Is it true if you work for ATG, they pay you minimum wage, but then impose a non optional £4 administration fee and £2.50 handling fee on you payslip?

I was being slightly (but only slightly!) tongue in cheek but actually another consideration for me would be whether it's wise to make your passion your job. I few years ago I switched sectors to work in an arts based organisation, thinking that because I love the arts I'd love the job. Turned out the job made me slightly hate the arts... I remember one Friday night we had an event at the NT, and for the first time the National was somewhere I really didn't want to be. Basically I've learnt that I like clear blue water between work and life, and I'm glad I can now go to the theatre and feel that I've escaped from work rather than it be an extension of work. Obviously not the same for everyone but worth considering.

whether it's wise to make your passion your job I have, and it works for me; but I agree that for some, as you found, abby, it turns into a nightmare. Personally, I go by the saying that if you do something you love, you'll never work another day in your life. Whether that is separated from your hobbies or not depemds on the individual, I guess. And those of us who have got cheap tickets out of it thank you!

I've worked for ATG on quite a few occasions in a number of roles over the years and have always found them a brilliant company to work for. This was always during the Panter and Squire years, so I can't speak for the company now they're not on board. They also paid well.
For those interested in getting into theatre producing or similar they offer a very good paid internship and a paid graduate one too. Definitely worth looking into. If you'd like more info but don't feel comfortable posting it on here feel free to private message me.
