The red carpet livestreams have just started, so I guess it's time for this thread! Is anyone planning to stay up to watch? I haven't done so for a few years - I usually just Youtube the speeches the next morning and watch the afterparty/reaction coverage on breakfast TV before going to work.
I expect La La Land will win a fair few, including Best Picture (though personally I thought Hidden Figures was a better film) and Best Actress for Emma Stone. If Best Supporting Actress isn't Viola Davis then it will be a major shock, and she's long overdue a win. The acting categories on the male side are where it gets interesting and difficult to call.
Have to admit I enjoy the red carpet coverage as much as the show itself, and all the coverage of the dresses in the press the next day (both the good and the bad!). So far this year Cynthia Erivo, Isabelle Huppert and Felicity Jones all look stunning.

I'm watching the whole show live, my housemate has the Sky Movies Oscar Channel so I can watch it on the TV. The Red Carpet airs from 11:30, the main awards from 1:30 and it ends at 5am (UK Time). I am expecting La La Land to get around 10. I actually think Emma will win, but don't be surprised to see Isabelle Huppert sneak in, who has been getting a lot of buzz around Hollywood since the Golden Globes and some are predicting she could well beat Emma. It is pretty much Viola's to lose, if anyone does beat her, it will be Michelle Williams or Nicole Kidman but Viola will in. The male side is harder to decide. Either Denzel or Casey are predicted to win, I think if there is a sweep for La La Land, there is an outside chance Ryan could get in there getting swept up in the wave of love. But my money is on Denzel for the win haha. And as for Supporting, Mahershala has been the favourite since the beginning, but since Christmas, there is more buzz now for Dev Patel, which I actually think is going to happen. So my guess for the acting awards, if I had to pick one, are: Actor: Denzel Washington Actress: Emma Stone Sup. Actor: Dev Patel Sup. Actress: Viola Davis And as for Lin Manuel, he sadly won't win his EGOT I don't think, as La La Land has two nominations in that category, it is a bit of a long shot. But if he manages that, he will be the youngest ever to gain an EGOT and deservedly so! Will be exciting to see him perform!

I would be happy with your acting predictions danieljohnson14!! I would rather Mahershala Ali win over Dev though. If Meryl wins, it'll be laughable.

Out of the 5 female actresses, Meryl is fourth most likely. She is a legend, my faocurite actress, I love her! But she won't win. The talk is, if she has a chance, it isn't for her performance (which was great) it will be because of her amazing speech at the Golden Globes. So a win would be a political statement more than her talent, which is undeniable haha.

But all of them were fantastic in their respective roles. But the general consensus is it will be, in order of winning likeliness: Emma, Isabelle, Natalie, Meryl then Ruth.

I've seen some people tipping Natalie. Although most people agree she doesn't deserve to be a double Oscar winner yet.

But since, all the steam has blown away from under her. I'd personally, if I had a say haha, would love to see Natalie win, because she was brilliant in Jackie!

I thought that, Nicole looks stunning, the best dressed so far! But just got a glimpse of Emma Stone's dress, she looks amazing from the waist up, but the bottom of that dress is f***ing awful, I hate the flapper girl bottom!

Oh this will be nice, I've got some friends to stay up with!
I too am staying up (although I'm in work just before 9 so tomorrow wont' be a pretty day!) I've seen pretty much all of the nominated pictures and acting performances, so the ones I want to win are:
Picture - Manchester By The Sea Actor - Casey Affleck Actress Emma Stone (i felt this category was by far the weakest) Supporting Actress - Viola Davies (should be a leading nomination - its Alicia Vikander in the Danish Girl all over again) Supporting Actor - Lucas Hedges

Actor: Dev Patel or Lucas Hedges Sup. Actress: Michelle Williams or Viola Davis And yes, join us staying up crazies

Viola Davis looks stunning (as usual), although I don't like her earring thing.
Just had a little snack to keep energy levels up!

I watched Moonlight yesterday and cant understand all the love for Mahershala Ali. He's only in it for about 15 mins screen time and didnt really make much of an impression. Obviously his character is important to the main story, but was expecting more considering all the raves hes been getting. Naomi Harris on the other hand deserves all the praise she gets, especially considering she filmed it all over 3 days with no rehearsal.

I'm so glad Queen Meryl has a sense of humour about her being the most nominated actress and how it can make her seem overrated. Jimmy gets her to stand and everyone gives her a standing ovation! She just is Queen!

Does anyone remember the year when they brought back five previous winners to introduce the acting awards? I loved that!
