Maybe the number just demonstrates restraint. I suppose I could bore everyone daily with musings over whether to grab a coffee in the Lyttleton bar, or whether the Latte is cheaper at the Globe. Maybe I'd post more if the threads- which seem quite heavily policed for some types of comments- were to be improved by organizing ticket discussions to a place of their own. If you love discussing buying tickets what's wrong with it being in a ticket discussion area? Police! Hands Up! Just kiddin' I do take your point but i don't see how that would practically work. If you had one thread for all ticket discussions it would be a complete jumble and no-one would be able to find anything. And having a 'sister' thread for every existing thread purely to discuss tickets that would double the size of the forum, and the threads would equally be all over the place, in different places and both would inevitably go off topic and the discussions would get out of control. It would be a mess.
If anyone has a solution they think could work feel free to tell us in the feedback section here.

We have separate sections for plays, musicals, performers etc.
Wouldn't it be possible to have a ticket info / discounts section?
Having read the feedback thread, it seems several people have also highlighted the benefits of creating a section dedicated to discounts / ticket info / seating info.
Am I saying something radically untrue when I suggest that discussing how to get a ticket you can afford is really not relevant to anyone who wants to comment on the production itself?

I haven't seen any discounts, only the £20 TodayTix lotto. There are some cheaper seats near the back, but the Apollo's such an awful theatre I'd rather miss out completely.

Yeah, I've only got little legs so the legroom in the Apollo doesn't bother me as much as it does other people, but the sightlines really are poor for at least half the auditorium I think.

If you want to have an intellectual discussion about the play then no-one's stopping you from posting (though I haven't seen one post from you about the play itself in the last two pages so you seem to be doing the very thing you're complaining about). It's not your job to police the forum and stop people posting whatever they like. Clearly many people do find it useful to ask questions about ticketing and sightlines in the thread about a particular show because it's more likely to be frequented by people who've seen the show and can provide more relevant information. It also often leads to new posters introducing themselves and joining in. No-one's forcing you to read any posts you don't find interesting - it's pretty easy to skim through a thread and past posts that clearly aren't relevant to what you want to contribute - so I really don't see why people asking ticketing and seating questions is such a crime. And I certainly don't think it's fair to force people to post about certain aspects of a show in one place and others in another - it's hardly going to be very welcoming to new posters for one if the first response they get is someone telling them they've posted in the wrong place because someone has imposed a rule that only substantive comments about a play are acceptable...

I get that you might feel a little hard done by here, and tone doesn't always come across well over the internet, but fwiw this sounds a bit like a stroppy teenager to me. You've suggested some changes you'd like for the forum and, for now at least, the forum doesn't seem to agree with that. It seems fairly democratic here on the whole so who knows, perhaps changes will be made over time. Perhaps we/I could have been less sarcastic in some of our messages but surely you can also see how some of your comments might have rubbed people up the wrong way. In any case, I'm not sure this latest message is the way to win people over. It's early enough that not many people will have seen these messages yet. How about a re-start? You can delete your message, and I'll do the same (I haven't quoted the second sentence of yours for this reason). I'm not suggesting that you should give any information that you don't want to; just that this message comes across as fairly abrasive, and isn't going to convince anyone that you were right. For what it's worth your comment makes me think of The Jungle. The Old Vic/NT notes about an immersive experience in the migrant camps struck me as potentially quite iffy.

Your rudeness and astonishing lack of regard for other people's opinions are not helping your cause at all, and acting like a 5 year old never helps anyone. You really have two choices here as far as I can see - grow up, respect other people and make whatever contribution you wish to this forum, or don't. But continued posts like the above (which I've deliberately not quoted all of either to give you a chance to retract it) are not going to make you many friends.

I suppose it depends what each individual is looking for in the performance, and also possibly how well they know the text? I'm still on the fence about whether to bother with this given the prices!

It would make sense if people like Horton just like to discuss the merits of a play/musical etc without having to wade through discussions about seating/discounts which a lot of people want to know about. I think something really basic is being overlooked here. Yes, people do talk a lot about the prosaic and practical details of a show, ANY show, but once more people have seen a show the conversation will organically turn to the show itself. Look at the Angels In America thread; yeah, there are still ticket questions, but we're a few months into the run and have had some beautiful reviews and excellent conversations now. How long's Cat been open, two weeks? Not everyone goes to a show at the beginning of a run, clearly most people haven't even seen it yet. The desire to dictate what people talk about aside, no one can give the sort of quality analysis that's being demanded if they haven't seen the show yet! First you buy a ticket, then you see a show. That's how it goes in life, and the conversations here simply reflect that.

I bit the bullet and went X6 stalls for it, which is about the best I could do at second price with legroom. It's an awkward theatre indeed. It's odd there's not one central booking site for this and most places are whacking on massive booking fees. I decided to go old school and popped into the box office and got centre row D for £65, which are listed at £112.50/£115 on other sites.

The official website is here - youngvicwestend.com/ - this links to Nimax and the Young Vic where you can book without fees. But if you search for the show this comes towards the bottom of the first page of search results, with ATG tickets, From the Box Office etc coming ahead and they are whacking on big booking fees. Odd - presume the problem is with the way search engine optimisation has been done on the official site.

So I just finished watching the 1958 film version. It's acted incredibly, but disappointingly (however unsurprisingly) tame, as was the only option when this was made, of course. The film allowed me to like the 'play' more (although of course the screenplay varies quite a lot from the actual play) as it was far more realised and contextual to its setting, at least a little more so than this production at the Apollo.
For my money and in purely my own opinion, if you could take the sensational acting from the film, and the raw and intense physical (and I guess literal, too...) heat from the Apollo production, you'd have one hell of a play on your hands. As it stands, for me personally, they each lack what makes the other great.
I believe there's a 1984 made-for-TV adaptation, too, which reinstates some omitted themes from the 1958 film, so I may also check that out.
