I think some productions of Aida have used elephants, I'm pretty sure Verona arena's did at a certain point.

Did The Goat many years ago with Jonathan Pryce have an actual goat or an I hallucinating?

I didn't see it, but if it was true to the text {Spoiler - click to view}then it wouldn't have been a live one.

Oh, and there was briefly a live owl in The Cursed Child. Until it escaped into the auditorium and they decided they could do with a more techy/reliable solution.

A dog in Nell Gwynn and thats about it. Wish they hadn't bothered, I could have done without the woman sat next to me making stupid 'aww, look at diddums' comments when the dog made its brief appearance: she didn't seem too bothered about anything else on stage the whole evening. Sorry 😶 But I did love that dog.

Actually 'that' woman couldn't have been me because I was equally enamoured of Gemma Arterton and David Sturzaker.

Going back to Michael Crawford in "The Woman In White" - One of the caged birds escaped & flew around the stage at either a preview or the opening night. [ I was at both & can't remember which it happened at.]

I was there for the first preview before this was cut and it was a spectacular moment. Until the animal handler sat in front of me scarpered backstage to try and find the poor thing.

Whistle Down the Wind had live snakes - they employed a hypnotist in the company as a few cast members had a huge fear of snakes!
Curious Incident has Toby the rat but also the gorgeous puppy too. Always gets a huge 'aaaaaaah' from the audience.
I've also seen a rat, doves, a cat, a rabbit, Shetland ponies and a full-sized horse in various pantos over the years.
Oh, and umpteen ducks in the short-lived 'Ducktastic'

The production is hopefully going to be replaced next season

The wolf in the recent The Crucible in NYC. I was convinced it was one when I saw the show but couldn't believe they would actually put a wolf on a theatre stage. Found out afterwards it's a relatively rare dog breed called Tamaskan. :-)

There were chickens in The Recruiting Officer at the Donmar! They momentarily distracted me from Mark Gatiss' legs in stockings... There were?! I obviously don't remember that play as well as I thought I did.....

I obviously don't remember that play as well as I thought I did..... haha yes, they were blink (cluck) and you'll miss them, but some of the ladies carried them during one scene- one under an arm and another in a crate! I remember wondering if the company were having a lot of eggs during that run!

Still, I suppose it is "species-blind" casting. The wolf community needs to hold a referendum and 'take back control' Perhaps plaster some crap about vets bills on the a bus

Tennessee Williams' Strangest Kind of Romance at the Young Vic a year or two ago. Absolutely beautiful cat on stage throughout, it was so good.
