I'm not sure if Hamilton is going to sweep it. I imagine it could be up for creative awards, but the actor/actress categories could be too competitive to be a given.

I imagine it will get at least one of the two lead males, Giles if any. Rachel John seems a lock in the Supporting catagory. It will get st least one guy in the other Supporting catagory. And then you have Actress. But I've had several friends tell me Rachelle is the weak link in the cast, so she could well get bumped for someone else if that is the case.

Plus there's the fact that the actors in 'Hamilton' don't really stand out (other than King George). I expect it to receive a shedload of nominations though just like Harry Potter last year.

Ms Burke is really struggle to read with any fluency - how did she ever get cast in a speaking role?

This will probably get hate, but Clare was robbed in either Actress catagory. She deserved tonbe there more than the Supporting Actress in Girl from North Country, and arguably Imelda!

No major surprises, but surely it's possible to give the presenters a rehearsal first? Embarrassing number of mistakes

Did they not rehearse? Or at least get told the correct pronunciation of names?
Anyway...
How can 42n Street get snubbed for best set design Lucie Shorthouse should have got supporting actress ahead of Lesley (even though she was also good) Obioma Ugoala should have got in supporting actor ahead of one of those other hamilton guys.

Oooo gosh, so manh thoughts...
The good: Audra was remembered! American in Paris got what it deserved, Jamie too!
The bad: 42nd Street was robbed. I suspected it may not get any performers, but it should of got Set, but keeping Clare out is criminal. Especially when Girl From North Courtry hasn't got any standout performers in my opinion, and Imelda really didn't deserve a nomination over Clare. Follies looks like it may beat 42nd Street, and that makes me dissapointed.

Why wasn't Ms Burke coached in how to say all the names on her cards before the cameras went live? The same thing happened at the Oscars nominations where Tiffany Haddish couldn't pronounce the names.
It is unprofessional to not do proper preparation for such an event. It is disrespectful to those on the list. And just embarrassing for the audience to see someone struggle with such a simple task.
I do have to take the producers to task for not putting the word 'the' in front of most of the theatre names. It is just odd to hear a name being nominated for their performance in X at Harold Pinter Theatre rather than in X at the Harold Pinter Theatre. Elaine Paige did put them in a fair amount of the time - but Ms Burke didn't. It was clunky and badly prepared by the producers.
This sort of thing is so easy to get write. Today looked like amateur hour. And not in an endearing way.

I do find it odd that the Hamilton costume designer got a nod - when he didn't do any significant new creative work on the London production. They just adjusted the costumes to fit the new cast. Yes, these designs are new to the London stage - but not created for it.

I know it’s expected that Hamilton will get a lot of noms, but I’m rather passionate about Obioma Ugoala getting a nod for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. I’m genuinely a bit stunned that he didn’t get the nomination

I agree about Set. I love the American in Paris set, but I'd nominate 42nd Street over it. Its impressive Hamilton got 12 noms with none for Actress or Set?

I think 42nd street was also robbed in a few awards like actress and actor ,Also feel is odd that girl from north country got actor and actress in a musical but am glad Shelia Atim got a nom.havent seen Hamilton yet but is Michael Gibsons role Oliver nomination worthy, don't think so as it is really a cameo. Personally I feel Hamlet was a bit robbed with Juliet not getting a nom for supporting actress and Robert Icke not getting director, Im happy for all the nominees and there will always be performers that wouldn't get nominated

If anything, its odd Rachelle and Set Design didn't get in.

It may be normal - but it just struck me as to whether it should be. The work wasn't done for this production. The costumes are, essentially, a revival - even though the production as a whole is new to the London stage.

As someone who loved Imelda to death in Sweeney Todd and Gypsy, I thought she had her moments in both Virginia Wolf? and Follies, but delivered a great performance in neither. They might go for a 1996 Judi Dench situation, but Clare Halse deserved that spot more than Imelda. No major surprise, but I'm very pleased to see Brid Brennan and Peter Polycarpou among the nominees. Funny that Ciaran Hinds is nominated for best actor in a musical despite not singing a single note, but it's not unprecedented. The Outstanding Achievement in Music is so puzzling, what's the point of nominating three composers and one orchestra? It's time to have a best score award, and a best book one. Cleve September was lovely, but I'm not sure he deserved a nomination for his performance.
The snubbed: Susan Brown, Robert Fairchild, Philip Quast, Peter Forbes, Tamsin Greig, Sophie Okonedo and, especially, Conleth Hill, who delivered the best male acting performance of the season imho.

I would have had him over Cleve. He was good but for me he was fairly forgettable as a role (or two roles) and performance. Jason at least stood out as both his characters (because they were both a bit ott).

Yes, these designs are new to the London stage - but not created for it. It's the first production, it doesn't matter whether it was done in New York or wherever, same as if an American actor repeats a role over here (or vice versa for the Tonys).
Pretty much as expected across the board although I personally would have put the Angels in America supporting performances of Lane and Stewart-Jarrett above any Ferryman ones.
(Ah, yes, Conleth Hill too, as well as Jessica Brown Findlay for Hamlet. The directing category is just so strong that someone had to miss out and, in pretty much any other year, Icke would probably have been nominated).

JAMES MCARDLE
Ahem.
Meanwhile I don't have to carry through any of the violence I promised, as Marianne Elliott is nominated. And Angels got a nod for revival. Predictable nod for Garfield, and Denise (well deserved both but predictable) A shame Nathan S-J didn't get nominated. But quite right, if he didn't that Lane wasn't.
Glad to see Jamie getting some nods. And double Imelda. Though I'd pay to see an actual fight between her and Janie Dee.

I don't rate Pennycooke in Hamilton at all I'm afraid. Absolutely delighted for Rachel John though, long overdue recognition! Really annoyed at the snubs for 42nd Street - Clare Halse so deserved a nomination and I can't believe it didn't get set design either!

Well I know one could argue that he's an actor AND he's in a musical so therefore he should be nominated for Best Actor in a Musical but it would have been nice to nominate Ciaran Hinds if he actually sings in the show.
It's a good job they got Catherine Tate to present the Olivier Awards this year because with those dreadful nominations, she could turn up as Nan and quite rightly shout "What a load of old sh. . . "

The staircase at 42nd Street deserves an award of its own. Annoyed it wasn't nominated for set design.
Dear God. Listening to Alexandra Burke trying to pronounce words was painful. Hope she does better with those Russian names in Chess.
