Stayed in bed until the worst of the Doris rain had passed this morning and so only just made it to work on time. And then was still in work at 11.30pm, and once I did escape failed to find a taxi so had to get the tube and stand in the cold waiting for a bus at the other end. Not the best of days!

Baked some bread and filled in lots of tedious paperwork about my partners visual impairment and how it affects her on a daily basis

Does anyone have any helpful hints to ease insomnia. Not slept properly for two weeks now. Feel completely shattered but just seem to sleep for an hour or so here and there and can't then get back to sleep

Does anyone have any helpful hints to ease insomnia I got some over-the-counter tablets containing diphenhydramine hydrochloride, just by asking "Do you have anything that will help me get to sleep?" For some reason the packet says "May cause drowsiness. If affected do not drive or operate machinery." Yes, because if I'm having trouble getting to sleep one of the things that would occur to me is "Hey, these tablets aren't doing the trick. I think I'll go for a drive and buy myself a bandsaw".

Have you tried a meditation website such as Calm or Headspace? Both have initial free programmes with no obligation to subscribe; I've found both very helpful but feel they progress too fast for me so have simply repeated the 7/10 days as many times as I wished. The sessions for some days were more helpful than others, which is another reason why I wished to repeat them.

Does anyone have any helpful hints to ease insomnia. Not slept properly for two weeks now. Feel completely shattered but just seem to sleep for an hour or so here and there and can't then get back to sleep My doctor prescribed me some low dose sleeping pills and told me to use them if I needed to - I've used them twice in about 3 months because when I do take them I have such a good night's sleep that it helps put my body clock back on track a bit and the next few nights aren't so bad. Might have to take one tonight as I only managed 4 hours' sleep last night... Came to my new house this morning to do a day of decorating and found that Storm Doris has destroyed the back fence, which is the last thing I need given the amount I'm already spending on refurbing the place...

My day was fine until about half an hour ago when I picked up my TPTGW ticket for what I thought was this evening & discovered with uttter horror the time said 2.30pm rather than 7.30pm. I can't get down to London in time for the start of the matinee - I'm on a train right now - & the evening is sold out. Currently feeling devastated.
Edit: ticket sorted out. So relieved! My day has suddenly improved massively!

An enjoyable night watching the Oscars after a productive Sunday planning a couple of trips away.

My weekend wasn't the best in some respects, but I was cheered up by seeing the marvellous Sue Perkins last night- her tour is worth seeing if she comes near you. (Also can confirm I still have a crush on her)

Well, it is quite a critical match, isn't it?! Hoping for the best as my OH will also be there and he did try to explain to me what all the possible outcomes were...

Finished my latest temp job today. Celebrating being able to go to a midweek matinee for the first time in over a year by doing 2 shows in London tomorrow. Hopefully seeing Half A Sixpence in the afternoon, cheap last minute ticket availability depending, then new TCAABR cast in the evening.
Edit: okay, may have to re-think the Half A Sixpence plan as I've just seen on Twitter that Emma Williams is off tonight. If she isn't back on tomorrow I'll be seeing something else. Usually I'm pro-understudies but the main reason I'm interested in seeing it is to see her performance so not much point if she's off.

I guess this is the right thread to send you all some holiday greetings from Costa Rica. Currently parked outside my villa (well, hut) with a cold Imperial beer. If anyone is wondering where to spend their next holidays, I can fully recommend this place, wonderful country with lovely people. And where else could you watch parrots and monkeys in the trees while sipping your morning coffee? Wish I could stay longer but tomorrow it's back to San Jose and then the long slog home.

Yesterday wasn't a good day for me- after nearly 18 years with us we had our dog put to sleep. She had a great run (sometimes across football pitches, stealing a football) but having had our dog outlive most of the humans (including my Dad and Grandma) and frankly being the best dog to ever dog it was a very sad day. But we know we made the right decision.
All that aside, going to see The Wedding Singer, as planned last night was the best decisions- happy escapist musical theatre certainly helped what was a terrible day.

Sorry to hear of your loss @emicardiff. I've never had a dog as I don't have the time and the pets I have had tend to be more reptilian in nature but I know how I've felt when I've lost them.

Thank you all for being so kind! This is exactly the kind of thing I want to show doubters of internet 'friends' it's really really heartening to have you all say such nice things. It was really hard coming home from work today to no furball for the first time ever. But still life goes on, I'll have to borrow other people's Doggys instead for a bit!
@theatremonkey love the story of 'Uncle Steve' to the Doggy rescue!!
