I don't understand people who need a child or partner to validate themselves, such a strange concept. The worst ones are those who spend the years prior to those life events telling anyone they speak to how much they need those things to complete themselves Me either....many of my friends can't understand that I don't spend my life with the sole purpose of finding a 'mate'....

The worst ones are those who spend the years prior to those life events telling anyone they speak to how much they need those things to complete themselves At least these are honest to others and themselves. To me it's worse when people are desperately lying to themselves (and everyone) how happy they are to be single and free and independent - while secretly wanting nothing more than to be coupled up.

I'm not so sure. I favour those who keep quiet about their desperation to couple up. Better those than the ones wailing about how depressing it all is and how they will never find anyone so they give up on everything because only coupling up will make them happy and fulfilled thus they are worthless.

Marriage is not all it's cracked up to be. - Believe me. Take it from one who knows. Next week it will be exactly 42 years since I made that mistake.

Deeply depressed. My friend who was in ICU relapsed and passed away suddenly. Condolences: a shock for those left behind but I hope this means there was little suffering. X

Deeply depressed. My friend who was in ICU relapsed and passed away suddenly. Oh dear. That's awful. Really sorry to hear that. Certainly puts into perspective what I was going to come on here and moan about.

I'm also very sorry about your news, TM; sounds unexpected, too, which must have made it harder to hear.

Funeral took place today, oh, gosh, Golders Green Cremetorium is beautiful. Stunning rosebeds. As I was getting in my car the hearse turned up, and the son offered me a lift. Hotter than hell in his car, thought my eyeballs were going to explode. Decided to come back with another neighbour who, in conversation tells me she's signed off work as she's not been well, stress, uncontrolled shaking. And negotiating a major North West London roundabout has a collision with an ambulance.
It's a minor accident, no-one hurt, but she's fallen apart, poor love.
I'm having a weird week. Hey -how come no-one said, re my post from yesterday, that I must have felt a proper tit? You guys are slipping.
Sorry Monkey about your friend.

Ive got a family friends funeral tomorrow. He used to bowl with my Dad when he was alive and was so helpful to my Mum and I when my Dad passed last year with advice on what we needed to do

Is it just coincidence or are some of us really aware of more funerals than usual? I do know that the death rate for older people rises in hot weather but that doesn't account for everyone mentioned. This Friday it's the funeral of my oldest-surviving aunt (who was also my godmother), but I can't go because a colleague is already having a day's leave for his grandmother's funeral. Next week another colleague wanted time off to go to the funeral of her best friend's mother, but she couldn't have this, again due to staffing. So I've said I'll go in for an extra day, meaning she can go after all. Bang goes my theatre day, but I'll get another chance, whereas she won't.
