You know when you shouldn't speak to soon? Ok my day sucked a bit...then I went for a lunchtime walk. I was walking along and a man walked towards me, I was against the railings of a bridge, and I decided 'no I don't need to move out of your way, I'm against this wall' he purposefully walked right up to me, as if expecting me to move or something, when I didn't he halted in front of me (well within personal space) and still wouldn't move (I'm half trapped against railings on a bridge) I say 'excuse me' (more pointedly than politely at this point) Man responds with "f*** you you ugly bitch" and to my surprised "What?" I got a "I'll f*** you up" Now in broad daylight in a busy area, that's obnoxious but luckily not that threatening or scary. But still... Oh you poor thing It says more about him than you. x

The company I temp for needs to sort their priorities out. I was asked to work an hour late today because there were things that had to be done before the weekend. Yet this morning it was absolutely fine for the entire permanent staff of 2 departments to spend 2 and a half hours on a team building exercise which, as far as I could tell, involved them running round Cambridge following some app & filming stupid videos. They'd already done another 2 hour course earlier this week that involved colour coding people & then you're supposed to approach them differently depending on what colour they are. Talk about fiddling while Rome burns. Just let them do some bloody work, then you wouldn't have to spend so much money on temps! (And I didn't even get paid overtime because it's a Bank Holiday week.)

@emicardiff What a horrible experience. I bet if you'd had a better day, it wouldn't have affected you as much as it has, quite understandably. Try not to let it work its way into your mind, put it down to some ugly minded individual who obviously has nothing good in their life. You have. Not least the great support on this board.
Feel pity for him, and be glad that he picked on you not some really vulnerable young person who wouldn't be able to handle it as well as you can. (And you can!) Sending hugs. xx

Yet this morning it was absolutely fine for the entire permanent staff of 2 departments to spend 2 and a half hours on a team building exercise The best thing any company can do to improve its performance is to sack anyone who thinks a team-building exercise is of benefit to the company. I don't mean that as flippantly as it sounds. In any competently-run organisation people will naturally come together and work as a team. If that isn't happening then there's a problem, and the problem is almost certainly the person in charge who thinks things can be fixed by a team-building exercise.

I've been dealing with a nasty headache for 36 hours straight at this point. Being of the female persuasion sucks so much sometimes. I am now breakfasting on Nurofen Plus and coffee in the hope that my head will sort itself out as I'm going to Brussels today to ogle some dashing Frenchmen on stage.
Then off to Norway tomorrow evening to spend a week trapped on a boat with 2000 Germans. Lord give me patience.

I've been dealing with a nasty headache for 36 hours straight at this point. [...] I am now breakfasting on Nurofen Plus I sympathise. I used to suffer from severe headaches that never seemed to respond to painkillers: once they'd started they would be there for the rest of the day. I often wished I could find some of those magical painkillers that were advertised on TV, that cured even the worst of pains in 30 minutes. That never happened for me.

Thanks. It varies. This is a particularly nasty one that refuses to budge My head has made me an expert on headache medication from all over the world. Your British Nurofen Plus is my favorite. Can't get it here, as you can't get codeine without a prescription in Germany.

Thanks all for the support- I did brush it off fairly quickly and instead just got angry at the way some men see fit to behave!
Anyway today is another (better) day, I have a meeting with a director about a play I'm writing, and then a tonne of work to do for a few Angels in America related things. And wine. There will be wine.

HORRIBLE Be sure to have a good rest this evening and do something nice or that you enjoy to relax This sort of malicious incident can leave one very upset and shaken It could have been a person with mental illness or learning disability etc. one never knows these things But can leave you nonetheless feeling distressed and upset and angry with people and world at large in general Have a nice weekend Many thanks Parsley- and indeed. Your comments about the possablity of mental illness reminded me of something that happend to a friend last week- she was stuck on a crowded but with a man making sexual noises/gestures/comments behind her and to her for the entire journey. She knows that the route often picks up individuals who are indeed being treated for mental illness at a nearby centre. So felt conflicted- it may be in part a result of an illness the person has but was still obviously a horrid experience. Again luckily, this happenend in daylight, in a crowded place where she felt in no danger just very uncomfortable. Anyway all to say, these things happen far too often and no matter what the many possible reasons are still deeply unpleasant for all involved. However, as in my other post, today is another day!

I'm just settling down to watch the annual live, six-hour, BBC-red-button coverage of the equestrian cross country from Badminton.

Damn, crows are smart. I saw one this afternoon sitting on the circulatory part of a roundabout doing whatever it is that crows do in the middle of the road, calmly ignoring a stream of cars coming on from an adjacent entrance. Apparently it has worked out that cars don't turn right when they come on to a roundabout. I've seen similar behaviour from crows before — they seem to know that cars stay on the asphalt, and I've even seen some that have figured out that they only have to get out of the way of the cars that are on their own side of the road — but this is the first time I've seen one give the impression of understanding which direction the cars will turn.

I know it's really daft, but I do love me a bit of Durrells on a Sunday night. Keeley on top form and those 4 young actors are just amazing.

Good weekend. Lot of work done towards my Open Uni assignments. It was all going sooooo well, until my partner said "Guys at work were saying for months that we should watch White Chicks" and so we did. This is 2 hours I will never get back. Horrid...
